Finding a good used Tesoro Silver uMax detector is a very difficult thing to do. People don't seem to want to part with them. I found a guy today that was in need of some cash, so I snatched up this little jewel in a hurry. It's in near new like condition. I've been testing it out in the yard for a little while and it seems to me to be one super fine detector. I really like the audio tone a lot. It's seems to be trying to talk to me.

I'D like to hear from some Silver uMax users to see what they have to say?

I have had the silver for a long time I found a lot of goodies with it, and I have a 10+12 coil for it and it goes deep , I pulled two spencer casing about 8" with it back 6 years ago , excellent machine!!!!!

Hi,

you can try go down with disk a bit - up iron only, and you could be surprise, depth increase and sound will larger.... and tresh to right to max...... it is not for sound volume only.... if you use it in disk to high, you probably miss small silvers and gold.... test it. It is not easy heard this noise sound, headphones are condition....&solution...

I run a Silver Umax. I find it hits hard on the coins. It is a fine unit and I enjoy hunting with mine. The fact that I can (I do not do this) disc out a zinc penny and cherry pick only is a brain twister on me. I run mine between foil and pull tab. It has been so hot and dry this summer my digging time has been limited. I really like my Silver, Beale.

I have a Silver uMax. I love it. It is a great machine for predominately hunting coins and jewelry items in parks and playgrounds. Its all the machine you need. Set the discriminator for the type of hunting you wish to do. If you can, you might want to consider adding a 4 inch coil. With a 4 inch coil you have a great tot lot machine, one that you can get in and around the metal poles supporting the appratus ...... provided you remember to turn the sensitivity down.

What I have discovered so far, is that the lowest discrimination setting will cause a rusty 16p nail to crackle and pop. It's right on the edge of being discriminated out.

When I set the discrimination dial a hair past the iron mark while in the discrimination mode, foil sports drink caps are discriminated out.

I have found from that point to pull tabs is where most of the lost gold rings will give an audio response.

I also discovered switching to 'all medal mode' from the discrimination mode even when it's set at its lowest discrimination setting will achieve a very noticeable increase in depth.

The Silver's non-threshold base all metal sounds the same as the discrimination audio does, but it goes deeper into the iron range. It sounds off clearly on the rusty nail.

I really like this detector. I'm going to try hunting with it in the 'all medal mode'. I never did like hunting in the 'all medal mode' on my threshold based detectors.

Dears,

one of my fried did use Silver many years, and he had been able beat me with Tejon in the field many time,

hi there.

I'm quite a newbie in hunting, I brought my silver about a year ago;

In my case as I'm self learning it take a time to recognize good sounds, in trash areas it makes you dig a lot until you set discriminate to pull tabs ...

As I Almost hunt in trash areas my discriminating level are always between 5cents and pull tabs; some times I think that I dig all pull tabs ( and just then ) in the area. :) !!

Some times, it goes very deep in mud or in good fields.

Now my project is between out law or cebola

The clean sweep coil is really great with this machine
I'll second that !!!!! I clean the filds with mine,,,,,

I have the Silver and an Eldorado new style and think the Silver is a tad deeper, but I usually hunt with either and like you referenced in your post, neither are going anywhere any time soon.

Wow! The Silver is amazing.:)

I've been out in the yard doing some more testing. When I have the discrimination set just high enough so a sports foil drink cap will pop and crackle (just above 'iron'), I can clearly and easily tell the difference between pull tabs, can slaw and coins by raising the coil until one of two things happen. If the audio tone crackles and pops, it's can slaw or a pull tab. If the audio tone fades away without crackling and popping, it's a coin. Doing this doesn't work on a new nickel.:sad:

The Silver also gets good depth and separation with the 8 inch coil. I read that the Silver will get amazing depth with a 12 x 10 concentric inch coil.

I understand now why this detector is rated so highly as a coin shooter. It's hot on nickels, so it should be great for finding gold jewelry as well.

I can't wait to give it a test run out in the park.

Tabman you got me so interested with this post that I went out and ordered a silver umax. I could not resist!

Foil and Lead;

silver uMax plays good sounds, even if discrimate mode is between 5cts and pull tabs, some times ;

I dig lots of oldies "foil tooth paste" in trash areas !!! , and fish lines leads ;

Silver plays really good sounds and get then very deep !!
