Technically,...Fisher IS NOT Fisher anymore:unsure:

Did you own a HD when AMF bought out HD? Think the quality issue went down some? Even though they were still called a Harley Davidson. Correct me if I am mistaken. Barley can remember that far back. ha

When you say something, I can tell you're not one to spout off without plenty of experience, history, and thought driving it. I don't know exactly what could cause the status quo syndrome at Fisher around the CZ-20/21. I know I bought a new CZ-20 when I first started water hunting years ago and I saw and agree with you on the "issues" they have. Granted, there are ways around some of them, but we all have our preferences and those preferences are usually more uhhhh....heartfelt the more experience we have. Sold it after two seasons and didn't really use it much the second.

Companies are a composite of it's people and that can usually be the culprit for change resistance. That's why the big Corporate buzz phrases of recent history was things like "Think outside the box" and "A fresh set of eyes" etc. I call it common sense, but that can get muddied up when there's financial accountability at stake. :)

BTW, I really got a good chuckle from your reference about letting Tom buy and try the TDI out and fill you in. ;)

For notching out targets. It sure would have been smaller & lighter. And have a have a separate L.E.D.
to work in conjunction with each notch, and it would not require that much work or take up that much room,
especially since the CZ-21 was being redesigned from the ground up.
I wonder if Keith Wills could add the L.E.D. setup.

And calling it a Special edition. When Honda made its 750-4, it was the death kneal for
BSA, NORTON, TRIUMPH, PIERCE and many others who were content to run in the middle of the pack.
You have to be forward looking, and I don't mean 6 months, and cost competitive in the detector business, or
any other business. I KNOW FIRST TEXAS is not sitting on their laurels, but hard at work on new detectors.
There is an old saying about buying a computer that by the time you get it home and set up, its obsolete.
While that may be a bit of overstatement, there is some truth to it.
(And you will notice Tek. & Bty Hunter has new models-I wonder if Dave Johnson is helping out.)

Or incarnations. Then back in the '70's whoever bought it put Jim Lewellyn in charge as CEO,
and Don Parks in charge of repairs. Jim had the foresight to look ahead and went from building
the 400 series which were straight VLF's to the 500 series which was VLF/TR's; they even had a
budget line, the 900 series of VLF/TR's which was more than competitive with ANYBODIES entry level units.
The '80 had just hit and they unveiled the 1260, and shortly after the 1265 plus they had a line of
commercial units. This went on until they were bought up in the '90 and Jim was fired, and the new company
went the industrial route, flopped leaving Fisher deep in the Red and they were picked up by First Texas.
Fisher decided to go the route of digital [chip] because that is the wave of the future, and cost about 1/2
the price of building analog detectors.
So I can only say Fisher is Fisher, new look or not, and I'm sure their Inc. Papers says so. And they have
Dave Johnson who is responsible for the most successful of all their past designs. My only problem is
waiting for the 10" concentric loop.:fisher:

as to the CZ-20/21 never owned one and never will! Why limit yourself in fresh water?

A quote from the TV series and one of the Brit detecting forums

"RESISTANCE IS FUTILE

Now if Whites or Dave E wants to send me one of their latest and greatest PULSE INDUCTION wonders I would be glad to give a full report as to how deep of craters I have to dig in the swimming holes to get them dang bobby pins. Going by the advance reports I'm thinking I may only be able to use it after Labor Day to prevent the loss of young children and the occasional midget!

I still think ole Barnacle needs to put one of those chute thingies on the prop of his barge and blow out some craters kinda like the salvors do.

Tom

BTW How's that X70 workin out for ya? ;)

i don't trust people who drink "beer" at room temperature!

(h.h!)

Me... Brad... or Moon the Loon????

GFTG and keep the Limo out 'o the pool mate

i was referring to the "brit" in the article!..not you!..point was the statement about the pulse unit doesn't make a whole lot of sense, and i thought he was drinkin' beer at room temperature!....just kidding!....kinda dumb!..i know!..nothin' personal!

Going digital and having a chip and using surface mount technology means everything is smaller.
Sure they could use the old bulky cases, but then people would say Fisher has nothing new.
And DAVE JOHNSON, the engineer behind so many of their designs that made them a success
is still with them.
How do you improve on that? Smaller, lighter, better ergonomically designed from the ground up,
and more than cost competitive with other makes. And they WORK.:detecting:
