TAKING A LITTLE POLL. I see this element of belly aching because the AT PRO may or may not not be totally geared for saltwater hunting. How many of yo

I use a multi freq on salt so not a problem for me.

Well there's what works in salt and there's what's SPECIALIZED for salt. I know that a TigerShark will work at the beaches nearest me, so the AT should be fine. But more to the point-all these people want to pick one thing to say that the AT Pro just COULDN'T be the best at..they miss the point!! Look at it this way, Minelab has an Xterra series with the top of that line being the 705. It's an all purpose machine but it's not as deep as some machines, certainly not waterproof, but otherwise a nice machine. There are other machines out there that fill that same role from other manufacturers, which are also quite nice, and also have some drawbacks. However, the AT Pro is meant to fill the same niche PLUS being waterproof. That one thing makes it unlike other machines. It also has some discrimination features that are downright amazing! Will it be foolproof? Nope. Will I never dig iron again..yeah right. Will the AT do what I've been wanting out of ONE machine for years now? YES.

If all these folks want to complain or nitpick that it probably won't work as good as a specialized machine in a certain environment, WHO CARES, MOVE ON. If salt is your specialty then shut the h3ll up and go buy a multi-freq or a PI and get swingin'! If you're a real prospector you probably already have a badarse gold machine! If you're dedicated to any certain aspect of the hobby you probably have the 'top of the line' machine for that pursuit. Why complain about something that is still mostly UNKOWN, and doesn't matter anyway if you're such experts!! I didn't see anything in the literature that said it would be the best at any one thing, just that it has some features that no other machine does. Whether it does or not is established and beyond debate!

I remember when I tried to drag race a hotrod Camaro when I was in my lifted 4x4. Dang that truck would FLY through the mud at warp speed! Against that Camaro..well, at least WE get the point. I hope there aren't any deer hunters out there waiting to see if the AT will bag 'em a big buck!

Let the naysayers complain and nitpick while we're out doing what we like, with the machine that we're certain to like.

Oh yeah, IS IT NOVEMBER YET? :detecting::garrett:

Don't care if it is good in salt "" I am going to get one ..Have to have one to much in it for the price.."

:usaflag:With 11,842 lakes over 10 acres, I'm not too concerned about saltwater hunting. And with that being said, I probably would'nt dunk an AT Pro in the ocean anyways. There are other detectors better suited for that.

if I was buying a detector where I hunt in Fla. mostly the beaches I would not buy one.
if I was in to land hunting I would look real hard at it because of the waterproofness.

there was a BIG uproar about the ace 350 before it came out but you don't hear very much
about it now, I have a ace 250 so it was not a very big jump to a 350 so not worth the upgrade but the AT Pro is
really out of their league and price. They 250 does all I need for what little land hunting I do.

for a all around detector if you live near the salt beached I would still be looking.
I don't get caught in to the hype of new ,improved and have to have the newest and bestest out there
or be the first one the block to have one.

I think the At Pro will be a fine detector but if you save your pennys and for a few hundred more get a
better one.

Garret is sure on the right track and will probably have the first all around detector, they are close but
have not gotten the gold ring yet

so to answer your question Uncle Willy, no I would not buy one if it does not do well around salt water

i have one on order to find out how good it handles this zone................15k............would be a killer on the beach, i tried tesoro tiger shark for the high freq...............but could not get it to work all that good, it is out west somewhere now.

if it does not work well in the salt zone..................classifieds fast and at a really good price to unload.

it just sounds good..........i can not see garrett building and try to sell something that would not work everywhere as it is billed, BUT THERE IS VERY LITTLE IN ANY OF THE VIDEOS REGARDING SALT WATER BEACH HUNTING..........if there was, I COULD HAVE MISSED IT.

sometimes u have to take a chance in life..............3 or 4 gold rings and it is paid for at the price of gold today.........we only go around once u know.

They missed a lot in the video as they were in a hurry and it was unwritten and unrehearsed so they will do a revised version soon and cover the things they missed such as GB and saltwater hunting, etc.

Bill.

I've been playing with the 350 and it's a vast improvement over the 250 which I use extensively. The new DD coil makes a world of difference in performance, pinpointing, target separation and isolation, and sensitivity to small jewelry items.

I dont live near any great expanse of water, but when I do dtect at beaches or in the water, it is salt water. I have 3 beach detectors (including the Garrett Sea Hunter II), but they are all heavy, and I have to hipmount them to use them. It's no problem, but it is nice to go for a stroll on the beach and not have to "gear up" to do it. Consequently, I occasionally use a land detector on the beach, but I know I am not getting the depth that I would be with my beach machines. If I knew that the AT Pro could go deeper at saltwater beaches and in the water than my other land machines can, then I would buy one in a flash. If things with the AT Pro are a bit iffy on that side of the fence, then I will be waiting for reports and feedback from users before I commit myself. Not saying that it would turn me off completely, but the main reason I would buy one would be to use at saltwater beaches, and if the depth isn't there, then the benefits are dubious.

I have one on order. The salt water performance is a non-issue with me.

I live near salt water beaches and think the AT Pro will handle it better than most VLF single freqs. I've mentioned B4 that I've seen posts on the Fisher Classic forum about using the GBSE on salt sand. The manual ground balance helps. It's a $600 all round machine and what could be better? Yes I have ordered one.
