Spectra-Sound headphones Something is wrong ??

I had one strange thing happen. I was sweeping and all at once I got this loud sharp tone it the wireless headphone. At the same time the speaker sounded of a loud tone then back to the headphones. This all happened fast it was just like the headphone had turned on but thy were on for 1 1/2 hr. and the speaker was off.? Also changed from stereo to mono back and forth. Wath up with this.
Also I found when I pinpointed the volume was very loud. Is this part of the volume fix.????

Jim, You can set the pinpoint volume in settings.

I went to a beach this AM and had the sound come on the speaker almost every 30 seconds or so :-( The speaker would stay on for 10 to 20 seconds then speaker off--The headphones were on all this time Power set at 2. I did not get a look at the signal bar...don't know how to get to it when this happens.

Anne: ak_1234 --- gave me this to try: Go to the wireless dialog (expert menu/audio/wireless headphones) and tell me how the signal looks for the channel that you are running? The bar on the top is the indicator - the more green the better.

***(expert menu/audio/wireless headphones)*** I will try to remember this

Have the same problems with mine. I have tried almost all the other channels. Bar is 98% green on most my channels and I have tried the power setting from 1 up to 7 and it still does it. Mainly the fading from stereo to mono. New battery's and no cell phone in a field with no power lines or interference. Working with Whites on this now. They are supose to call me later on today. I will post if I find out anything.

Just came back from doing some detecting in a high interference area. The interference did not show up in the frequency bars (all channels) as strong as I would have expected though. Once I moved away to another area it cleared up (after exiting wireless and resuming again only?) Ventured back into the area with heavy EMI and the onboard speaker gradually started sounding off again... after a short "build up period"?

Have yet to see if there is a performance difference with speaker off (using wireless headphones) and using my favorite wired ones. Next time I go out I'll check. EMI is not all created equal so... we have to be careful to compare apples to apples on this one for sure. All areas I've hunted (up until now) have not had this problem and sure like the wireless!

I just sent out my Vision to White's to fix the volume. I also put a letter in the box telling him of this problem. It cost me $56.00 to ship it. $20.00 there then I have to pay them to ship it back $20.00. I also Insured it for 1,500. $37.00 for that. And the box $2.50. It would have been cheaper to use a SUB port. I am all for that.

Thats not right.. You just paid top dollar for a top of the line piece of equipment that is defective .. Have you noticed any temporary or permanent hearing loss from the overly loud sounds? All costs to get the unit updated should be picked up by the manufacturer.. wildherre

My understanding was you pay to send it back and they would pay to send it back to you and they would send you a coil cover when they sent it back. Thats what Carl posted on 4/11.2009. Check that post out.

Eagle, you don't have to pay the return shipment - White's pays that:

"White's will make these adjustments our first priority and return your unit, freight prepaid, including a loop cover at no charge."

That information was in the post announcing the upgrade program. Did you perhaps also disregard the instruction to only send the control box and headphones - thus increasing your shipping costs?

I don't know who you shipped with, but for insurance UPS only charges $1 per hundred $ of the amount above $100.

Whites is also going to send you a $15 coil cover, so your total costs are reduced by that amount.

I suggest a nice mature Camembert to go with that wine.

I read that post. and I ask what perpaid is. davidtn replyed and sed - Prepaid means that the sender has paid the freight. I am the sender so I mailed it today
and put the prepaid in side. Look at end at the post. my post is on the bottom. (White's Official Audio Volume Fix)

Eagle 1 shouldn't have to pay anything.. Eagle 1 , like myself probably has already purchased a coil cover when he found out that one is not included ... Whites should issue UPS return labels for all the defective units, have them picked up & returned to the owners at no cost with an apology for the inconvenience. Anything less is unacceptable in my view.. wildherre

What happend to the post on bad coils. I think my coil bad. There was a phone number to call for this? who do I call.

I had the same experience last weekend and I put new batteries in and the noise went away.

I had a bad coil. At first I thought it might be the batteries, but putting new batteries in didn't help. The problem started out kind of funky and got worse and worse. Called White's, they told me to take it back to the dealer I bought it from to have him check it out. I didn't really want to do this as I knew the coil was bad and just wanted to send it back without messing around having someone check it first. Reluctantly, I did what they said and took the coil back to the dealer. He told me what I already knew, that the coil was bad. However, to my absolute delight, he gave me a new coil on the spot. I didn't have to ship it back. I don't know if all the dealers do this, but he did and I was pretty happy about that. For the first time my vision is working properly, where as before it was progressively erratic.

I would say who the dealer is but I don't know if that would violate forum policy....

Hi Larry, I did the battery change thing = Same thing- speaker turns on with headphones on. Like Jim had in the first post.
Did someone say it is the 10DD coil causing this?

Jerry

Jerry,
I was responding to the post by Eagle-1. He should have started a new post, but he was asking for help and I was a cub scout, so I had to give a helpful response....

I have had mine seem like it was switching back and forth between mono and stereo. I think one side the volume would go low for a moment and come back up to normal as the other side would loose it's volume. Doesn't do this all the time though.
Then had a tone blast that continued for a moment even after I raised the up about 3 feet or so from the ground and away to the side from where the tine started. I did catch what the screen displayed at the time though - didn't think of it.

No, I think we have two different problems here or really just one with the headphones. I can see the noise happening with low batteries but the others don't seem to be battery or coil related. This has happened too many times to too many people, sure sounds like something for the engineers to work out.

I agree, It is a problem. I never heard from Whites today like they said they would. Wonder if I could just trade the headphones in for a new 300 coil?
I had my doubts about the wireless headphones to start with.
