Solid 12-42 Gold Ring with Diamonds, Saphires, Emeralds, and Rubys, What are my chances its real

Found a nice little Gold ring. It came in at 12-42 and was 4 inches deep in an old park. It has no markings at all but appears to have been sized down a few sizes at least. Maybe Thats where the hallmark stamp went. I am going to the mall in the morning to get it checked out. Looks good to me, No signs of plating but still I have my suspicions. Idigid

From what I can see in the pictures, it looks genuine to me. I can't speak for the stones obviously, but plated gold just has "that look" and your ring doesn't. There also seems to be quite a lot of craftsmanship there for a fake. It is strange to have all those stones, with gold, and not have any markings, however, I recovered a $160,000 ring for an insurance company this year that had no markings whatsoever so it does happen. I hope for you that it turns out real, my guess from your pictures is that it is real. Please let us know and nice find either way. HH -Marc

I agree with Marc ...mostly. The 12-42 is a good indication and it faces up really nice along with the detail which is a good thing! Would I bet money on it?....I have seen lots of samples and costume type jewelry that looks really really good but lacks being actually solid gold! Lets hope for the best!

The ring looks real but the stones look like synthetics. The emeralds especially, look too perfect in color/clarity. Let us know. And congrats:)

Hello, and thanks for all the angled shots of your pretty ring.

I hope I'm wrong, but if your E-Trac VDI is correct...12Fe 42Con, then I am not sure about the ring being 'gold'.

The Conductance figure being too high?

It IS a 'chunky' band, and of a 'square' x-section, ( 3mm deep?) then that to could a legit. reason for the High Con.

Problem is, with today's rings, they can be alloys of several different valuable metals.

So, the count so far is:- 4 for gold and 1 against.

Hope the majority win this one.......TheMarshall

Copper, plated with gold????

I'd love to see this being gold ..... 18K - 24K !

I do know that gold can read high, I found a gold ring (24K @ 11.2 grams) that had a high number with my X-Terra 705 last year, but it did not have any gems in it.

See this post .. 24K Gold Ring !

I love the ring and big gold comes in that high on the Etrac !!!!!

no stamp? plated! check it anyway! glass stones!
you can "knick" it with a knife! if shiny underneath?
the real deal!.another clue is weight!.if it just "feels" heavy in your open palm
then get it weighed too!..just sayin'

What a beauty. Did you find out if it is real?

Beautiful ring. Hope it's real.

It weighs 4.1 grams and has some visible wear on the top over the stones and on the bottom of the band. There is no change of color where the wear is but something is just not right. It might be that the band is flat on the sides and not rounded. Idigid

? Are you going to get the ring and stones tested ?

I will get it tested tomorrow. I think its A gold filled or a high end plated but I just dont want to get my hopes up. Idigid

Beautiful Ring and Great Find

Testing is the your Best Way for confirmation of Gold and the Diamonds too

But I do know that when the jewelry is a special hand crafted item it can sometimes not be stamped

Good Luck

Well, today has come and is almost gone....Was it real?...NGE

I was doing a ring recovery and didnt get it checked yet, Sorry to keep you all waiting. Idigid
