so whats the story on the golden umax these days?

partys over :sadwalk: golden no more

Discontinued and they will no longer do the tone mod change.
Think Robert M from Tesoro mentioned in an email that Tesoro had IC chip and programing problems.
Original computer program software was lost and or deleted which was not able to be replaced or rewritten.
Only thing to do was discontinue the Golden and build a new machine from the ground up and I assume that is the
reason the Cazador was being built.

buying a used unit is not a good idea....If it can't be worked on because of programming issues..HMMM, why bother... I think that just made my mind up right here..

Thanks forthe heads up..

Good detective work Sven, I bet you are so right lets hope the new one has a ground balance and is 12khz

what a bunch of B.S that is, man I can't believe this so the lifetime warranty is a bust on this then isn't it?

It's first that I've heard or even implied that Tesoro won't honor the lifetime warranty on the Golden

Why not just ask Tesoro if they still repair old Goldens. Then, whatever the answer is, you have it from the horse's mouth, without all the conjecture.

i said they arent selling the golden no more
look on there web site its gone
as far as service im sure there still with us
call the factory & check

I talked with Reid at Tesoro about two months ago, and he said they are still honoring the lifetime warranty for the original owner on either old or new tone golden uMax.

Considering the age of some of the older Tesoro machines being serviced at the factory (original owner warranty or not) it seems there would be no reason for Tesoro to except the Golden.

It also seems logical, taking into account all the customer input surrounding the Cazador, that the new machine will have multi tones. Whatever programming or production issues that ultimately led to the Golden being discontinued will be moot upon release of "The Hunter."
As I write this I do not have a copy of the Tesoro warranty in front of me, but most warranties on any product allow for the manufacturer to repair or replace, at the manufacturer's option. If so with Tesoro you'll be good to go if. your Golden mkonks out.
Tesoro has a history of taking good care or their customers. I wouldn't worry too much.
Besides, you still have to have a problem for a warranty to even apply. Tesoros are built pretty well.
Cheers

well I'd like to know if there still going to service the goldens for sure that's what I was B.S ing about I was thinking about picking up another just mess with that last one with the new tone I really liked that just wished there was a way to achieve better depth

I bought a used new tone Golden from one of our sponsers and right from the get go the tones were off. Nickel was the high tone and quarter was lower than the nickel I sent it in for repairs and Rusty said the coil needed tuning. I purchased this detector from Richard at Backwods Detectors and Richard paid the $50 for repair. What a great Sponser ! and the Golden is now my favorite detector.

The Golden UMax Story:

The Golden UMax has been obsoleted. The Golden is still covered by warranty, and if you are not the Original Owner, you can still have it serviced, just not for free. I'm sorry I haven't been on in awhile. Things have been very busy with the Cazador development. I'll try to make more of an appearance in the future to answer all those pressing questions.

Of course you know, after a posting like that, the mere mention of the word "Cazador" with COO in your title brings a couple of questions to mind for me and a thousand of my closest friends... Small questions, such as what , when, where, how, who... I know the Outlaw release had some lessons learned for you guys, but is there anything you can tell us?

Thanks, John

The Golden

have contacted a couple of dealers and no Goldens but....my hunting partner's neighbor has one about 4 years old that he might sell for $250, will have to wait till he gets back from vacation.....HH

I've used the old tone version and new tone factory version ( not one with a tone change) and I can tell you that the factory new tone version is deeper.

Maybe because it was a newer model.
