So, in your opinion, what new detector is the best? I had to quit detecting a few years ago

This is loaded question.
White lovers will say MXT
E-Track lovers will say E-track
Xterra 70 owners will say Xterra 70 or the new Xterra 705.

I have the Xterra 70 and would go for the Xterra 705

Well, i'm hoping that won't be the case. I love my MXT, but I have equal respect for the Fisher F-70 I got recently and I consider the Minelab GT [and other Sovereigns] to be perhaps the best detectors made-if you don't mind the weight.
So, others may have similar feedback?
There's not going to be 1 best for everything detector, but there are plenty of detectors not worth trying, if you have already owned a GT, MXT and F70. The are most likely lots of other worthy detectors to try out too!
That's the input i'm looking for.

Well, for me that's easy. The X-terra 70. It's going for a good price because the 705 has been released. You don't need the 705 unless you hunt at night (backlight). I have a 705 and I've been doing some in-field comparisons and there is little if any difference in depth between the two. In fact, my son is hearing signals deeper with my old 70 than I am with the 705. The X-terra 70 is easy to learn, has notching, tones and one of the most configurable interfaces for such a light detector. With the 6" DD coil it has excellent separation and great depth in trashy ground. I've used a Fisher F70 and IMHO its not as good at locking on a target, noisier, and not as well built. Yeah, try the X-terra 70, you won't be sorry.

I think it depends on your intended use.

I got the X-705 for its versitility, I could have gone with several others. Lobo ST., Scorpian Gold Stinger, and MXT would probably have done me well.

If I only wanted a coin shooter or gold machine then these may not have been first choices. Actually most of them could still have been ot the top of the list.

But you know what I am saying. Intended use dictates a lot.
