So, in your opinion, what new detector is the best? I had to quit detecting a few years ago

Chuck,

I have tried all of the F series and even though some claim the F-70 is as good as the F-75 I like the F-75 much more and found it went deeper with better ID also. After using the F-75 and then went to the F-70 it was only a few hunts with it that i went back to the F-75 and used the small coil and 2 tones and surprised myself plus the Explorer users that was with me when I picked up a 1893 fish scale 3 older wheatie a 1870 IH and a diamond ring right where they had detected and missed. I probably should have kept that F-75, but sold it and have a F-75 LTD I only got out 1 time with before freeze up here and found it ran smoother and yet picked up a few coins I had missed before. But also with the F-75 I got more rusty bottle caps too, but was getting better telling the difference. The one time out with the LTD I only got 1 rusty bottle cap, but got a few rusty nails that were iffy enough to dig.
There is just too many detectors I really like and not enough time to use them all. At this time I have the Sovereign GT, the E-Trac and the F-75 LTD and would be very hard to pick one over the other if I could only have 1.

Good afternoon colleagues!
Immediately we ask to excuse me for my english:) Itself I from Russia.
This is my first message on this forum.Prompt,as possible speak in your

Good info Rick!
Can't beat information from an experienced detectorist who had usedall 3!
Maybe i'll have to try an F75 [what upgrade does the LTD have?

[size=large]Neil, before I had to quit detecting a couple or more years ago, I too had tried just about every detector [top models] that came out and by the time I stopped, I was left for some time with 2 detectors, a GT and an MXT. So, it looks like we both found the same thing out. Those 2 are hard to beat! I actually kept [during most of my detector comparison tyears] 12-14 detectors at a time! {My wife hated that!!} so that I could do side by side tests, with Explorers, Sovereigns, MXT's Tejon etc, even sometimes having 2 of 1 model, to find an extra hot machine-and I certainly did find some to be hotter than others!
I am only interested now, in trying something new, for interests sake. I just don't want to get into anything complicated like the Explorers were. My brain can't take it anymore! I'll get frustrated and throw it in the crick! :veryangry:
Thanks for your input!
Chuck

Hi Chuck,i think the problem we all have as detectorists is that we are always looking for a machine that is better than the one we are using at the time.I've gone through loads of different detectors searching for the ultimate machine and in all honesty it just does not exist.I've owned Whites machines, tesoros,a T2,xp's,red heats,minelabs,c-scopes,Nautilus and all the top models from these companies are on a par with each other.....they are all good at finding coins and relics. Some machines will do better than another in certain conditions but there is not a machine on the market that excels at everything. The mxt and sovereign are about as good as it gets.

Hi Chuck

That's one opinion, (like mine), but most users don't feel that way. That comparison is on a F75 model no longer in production. The latest F75 is the F75LTD. The LTD has put even more distance between the F70 & F75LTD. There is soon to be a newer release of the F75 as the LTD was just that, a limited made unit. They are incorporating the LTD features into the new unit. If you going to purchase, that's the one to go for.

Don't get me wrong, I like the F70. First off, there a heck of a lot less expensive. $649. is the going price, and I keep plenty in stock. In my field testing I have found that overall it was as deep as the standard F75, and has a few features on it that are not on the F75. The going price on a F75LTD is $1199. Just the price difference makes the F70 a good choice.

The point of my first post was to say the F70 is not like the F75, it's a different detector based on the F75 platform.

Here is, there is one scene. There is else photographies, but they building on computer.

Very accurate. For the last 20 years I've been on the lookout for a detector better than the one I was using. That quest finally stopped when I bought the E-Trac.

Dial in operators ability...type of hunting you do...area where you hunt and general mineralization... operators particuliar wants and needs and surprised you didn't get a dozen different answers..as all have their plus and minus features..God knows I have tried enough to come up with this post...Personally feel some vintage 1990's will beat the pants off many high priced new edition units in the hands of capable operators and judging by todays changes metal detectors have not kept up with the evolution considering flatscreen TV's and Blackberries and super hightech PC's to name a few. Just my lowly opinion on this 12 degree day in Pa.

I completely second Dan's statement around there are just too many variables to consider any one machine the best. The best for what, coinshooting, relic hunting, water hunting, caches, jewelry? I haven't seen a machine yet, that will do it all equally well.

Hi Bill :)
I see. So the real difference lies in the LTD model.
At that price, it will be down the road a ways for me! :)
It will have to be about half that, for a used one in a couple of years or so! :-(
If it's noticeably better, then the F75LTD will be a mighty good detector!
Because i'm already quite impressed with this F70 I have!
Especially, the fact that it will actually GB out my wet salt sand here!
No other 1 freq detector has ever come close!
Thanks,
Chuck

I agree, the F70 is real good for the money. Real tough to beat.

When I field tested the prototype of the F4 I discovered it would ground balance, and hunt in the wet salt water, & sand using the discriminate mode. I couldn't go into all metal mode or use the pin point feature, but it hunted just super in the discriminate mode, and at full sensitivity.

Bill

Well, there are some good machines out there but it really depends
on the operator. You can have the most expensive machine in your hands and an
old timer can come along with an inexpensive machine and dance circles around
you.

I like the Whites and Garretts, myself. Much depends on the kind of MDing you want to
do, and the kind of ground your working in. Heavy mineralized ground will want a detector
you can set the controls on. Presets won't do the job for you. But in the average
ground a preset like the Garrett Ace 250 would work just find.....but not in sea/beach hunting unless you
confind yourself to the dry sand. Wet sand will give you a small head ache. The MXT would work
just fine.

Gold hunting, if your serious demands a good machine dedicated to cold like a Whites GMT. Thw MXT
will also find lots of gold but can be set for coin and jewlery as well.

Good luck

Most of us have a favorite and some of us have favorites that came out since 2006.
That's all I was looking for, was opinions on what all anyone thought was worth trying.
I should have been more specific. Coinshooting only.
I have a CZ-20 for water and I have an MXT and a F70 for coinshooting [no relics in my part of SW Florida that i'm aware of?
So I guess I should have said "Anything you think might be better at coinshooting than these 2?" :detecting:
