Shorty Hooks Place

n/t

a couple others in the provincial archives and a history book of the area.
The Little Qualicum river runs out from just below the lodge as you know and downstream a couple miles at the park where the falls are i have found a decent amount of old silver. It was a very popular camping spot from around the turn of the century to present time. Just a few miles from my house.
Along the old highway there are a couple of obvious pullouts and i have found coinage behind the largest trees just off the road:biggrin:

Royal, great story I can remember passing Shorty Hooks place while traveling on Orchard Lake Road years ago.I've never hunted in the water. I'm not a very good swimmer.I'm going to give sallow water detecting a try next season.

good thang you ended this story when ya did, that ole bass would've been over a hundred by now....

I've just gotta get myself a hookah cuz I know some real dandy places I could use it!

Thanks for tellin me about Shorty!

BTW, nice pic of the train and badge!

that any beach you hunt and if Mike or I have not been there, is loaded with goodies out beyond the waders. Certain conditions have to be right though. It is best that there was a swimming raft or dock out there at one time. Some of the old beaches had a swimming dock that was sometimes covered. That Depot beach had one back in the 1890s. You find where that was and you are in hog heaven. Tough to find some times though.

Is that a hunter class or a jumper class> You and my wife [and daughter who has a riding stable in Victoria] would get along great. Anything to do with horses, she is all over it.

MB.C,My wife got me into riding about 8 years ago.I was taking riding classes with the intent to become a western rider. My trainer after three years of instruction finally admitted she knew nothing about western riding,by that time I was hooked on jumping.Anyway five years ago we went into the horse business Barnanza LLC.Jake(Swashbucklermcque his show name no I didn't name him) my horse is a palimino paint and we compete in jumper's he can jump almost 5 feet. Our most famous horse Ocala Spy the grand daught of Seattle Slew.Sorry about rambleing on.

short posts suck:wiggle:

My wife used to ride hunters. However, since her hip relacements, that has pretty much gone by the board. However, she still loves them to death and now she is getting into driving. We have a cart [2 wheeled] that she is using to drive around with our ponies.

Our daughter, however, is really into the hunter/jumper scene. She has her own stables and riding school. If you are interested , here is her website. http://www.cedarvistastables.com

i was familiar with in Canada was the "Newfy Bullet" across Newfoundland, which i rode in the early 60's, all the way across. It was vulnerable to high winds which they have lots of there.
Its gone now i think.

if you keep driving by that lake your going to try to find that bass, and he'll be a bunch bigger than when you were a kid:biggrin:.

found the police badge intriguing! Wonder if someone got fed up with their job, and just gave it a toss?? I hear that's how a lot of wedding rings disappear, and some of the ones you found were probably from a story like that!

We had a swimming place similar to this, but it has been hunted so much, you don't find much! But what's really interesting is that it is on the river, and on the other side is an Indian mound on private property! No one has ever been allowed to dig there, except for a few trespassers, and it's not worth getting shot over. But also, on the river by me, they have just fininshed dozing some of it, and it has rain rather hard the first part of this week.

Although it's now 28 degrees, the sun is shining and I am thinking of going walking around over there. I met the man that owns the property and he even told me where he hids the key to his gate. Said I could come over anytime, he didn't have a problem with it, but if his wife threw a hissy fit, then she may tell me to leave.........I can chance that I think.

We'll see!

PS Do we need to send you food and water since you are all snowed in????? :)

There can be lots found just by eyeballing. Go hunt the place. Sounds good to me.

I would not mess with the Indian Mound, if it is a grave but if not. go for it

MB.C.,I checked the site out nice place.Your daughter has very nice riding form.Great horse must be a Warm blood?Canadian Sport Horses are becoming popular in Michigan.

Good story Royal. I've hung a couple of Bass that size, or bigger, that got away<img src="http://www.jb-ms.com/emoticons/w00t.gif">.

That one.... his name is cody and , yes, he is a warm blood. My wife and I are breeding Canadian Sport Ponies.. Actually, to be truthful, it is my wife who does the selection, etc for the breeding. Me?? I am just the grunt who does the farm work :)
