Seems like Buying a CTX3030 is like a crap-shoot

Only people that I have seen give the CTX bad reviews are (1) those that have not properly learned how to use it (2) those that don't have one.

The End

I would say for 2,500.00 I bought the right to my opinion, I am not looking for a fight just the right to disagree.

got a point there UWMM, I'll be sure to include a #3 next time I use that saying. I'm not looking to argue either.

Divers Do It Deeper

One thing I will say about my CTX is it is my go to machine, now that the screen is failing it is difficult to use target trace which I dearly miss, last year I found over 60 silver coins, my next go to machine is my Tesoro Vacquero which I believe is right there with my CTX and I have proved it several times especially in trashy areas.

It's been said "it is the Indian ... not the arrow" ....... And quite often that saying will apply to detectors.

We each have ... or will develop our own methods and understanding of using our detector to its fullest potential.
I like hunting my CTX-3030 with an open screen and discriminating by the tones and quality of the signal I hear ... only sometimes augmented by the display info.
The level of experience and knowledge needed to extract top performance from a detector dont come easy or fast.
Handbooks written by skilled and experienced users will speed up the the learning curve but hours spent in the field will still be needed.

Consider yourself very lucky if a published program from another part of the country works well in your area.
You must learn and understand the control functions and what adjustments will be the needed to get top performance in your area.
There are a lot of fellas that buy a top tier detector with all the adjustments and use the supplied programs like it was a turn on and go machine.
With today's top detectors the supplied programs will work OK ... but top performance will only be obtained if you have a good understanding
of what each control does and why it needs to be tweaked for your area.
As an example ... take the Tesoro Compadre ... a simple preset detector that works OK in most places.
But add sensitivity and ground balance controls and the knowledge of how to adjust them and its performance can increase dramatically.

Mine sits on the wall waiting for all the great up-dates that were coming with it. Sure it's a great machine but I have my go to machine.
I have less than an hour on this unit but I saw its potential unmasking coins in trace pattern. (smearing of 2 targets) Found a couple
coins w/iron in the hole right on top of the coin.(eye-opener) Great machine I'm sure but CHEAPLY BUILT!!! I PAID dearly for this
unit and I would never ever spend that money again for this unit as I read all the War stories. So in the last year of my warranty
I'll push this machine to see what she can do.Hopefully she won't go FAULTY on me like a lot I have read about. It took 3 Explorer Xs's
to get it right back in 2000 but the 3rd was a CHARM. So again Minelab SOLD a bunch of bad batches. Dealing with Minelab has soured
my purchases for any more products from them. Minelab has left their LOYAL customers in the DUST!!! What do you think Minelab ,
Will the CTX hold up in its last year of Warranty or will I be sending her back to you??? Food for thought... There
are machines out there just as capable but don't have the ID ability in depth of a 3030. JMHO and care less what people think
of my opinion of Minelab these days as I was LOYAL back then!!!

It is actually "couldn't care less" unless you could actually care less than you do, what people think. Nice negative post.

Love how all the fan boys pipe up when minelab gets insulted. I have used minelab for 16 years along with other brands that I think are better in areas. $2500 for the same technology as my 16 year old XS is a little extreme. When I say technology I don't mean features. FBS is FBS in my book.

Yours has one processor, mine has two :wiggle:

The $2500 price tag was meant to target some (but not all) of those who would have ended up spending over $3000 for both an Etrac ($1549) and an excal (1499).

For those who don't want waterproofing, wireless, more visual information, more tone choices, GPS, or better balance and ergonomics........ go ahead and swing your Explorer or your Etrac. If it makes you feel smarter for doing so............ all the better.

Wow, this forum used to be a nice place to visit... These days, we get this continued nonsense...

Everyone has had their say. It is time to move on, and post some productive threads about tips, hints, questions, finds, etc. Otherwise this thread should be shut down or ignored.

Nonsense has been removed. I agree, some people seem to like to complain. I suggest they complain elsewhere.

Beats the heck outta me why people that don't like Minelabs feel compelled to go to a Minelab subforum and trash talk instead of going to their favorite detector's forum and contributing there.
Envy? Personality disorder? Nothing positive to contribute? Small.........?

:detecting:

I like my CTX3030 and treat it with great care. I despised it at first because I didn't understand it. I always rinse it after use and stow it away in a safe place. It is well-built for what it was intended for. It is, like all detectors, a scientific instrument and must be treated as such.

No detector is a good match for everyone, and every manufacturer will always have a few problems when you are putting out 10's of 1000's of units. I have no problem with people voicing problems they encounter, or even being mad that they got stuck with one of those with a problem and now have to take the time to go through the warranty process. HOWEVER, the complaints and the replies should be aimed at finding the solution. Many of us have had problems of one sort or another and some time we can help find a resolution without packing it off for repairs. Some of us have used the warranty process and can give advice and tips for making this process easier. The recent thread about the screen problem minelab repaired beyond the warranty is a GREAT example that can help everyone.

If all you are here for is to bitch and moan, don't expect your threads, posts and replies to last long. These types of members often find themselves not lasting long too.

<<< word from MOD - don't own a CTX? Move along and post your rant somewhere else.>>>>>

If the machine you're using works for you,use it. Which is why I'm up this early..... both my EX2 and CTX have been great. I personally find more with the CTX because of the ID capabilities.

I beat a Ctx user every time with my XS. I get weak signals that he cant pick up.

:clapping: You the man Dave...... Wow, bravo, incredible, insane, way to go, you're the greatest :yikes:

Upon rereading my attempt at a humorous post, I see where those with a legit problem may take offense. Please be assured that is NOT my intent. As Jason said, everyone puts out a lemon now and again. It is my firm belief that the best measure of a man or company is how he/they respond to problems. I continue to welcome posts that detail actual problems anyone may have had and the solutions that they came up with, warranty or not.

fwiw, there are a few detectors that I think are absolute dogcrap but I have never posted on any forum about them.
However, attempts to defraud people with scams like LRLs are another story. I have had posts edited to change my words on another forum when I expressed my disappointment of (ie, criticized) a large florida retail company for selling those things. I no longer post there of course.
