Seems like Buying a CTX3030 is like a crap-shoot

silverseeker2, What is you go to machine? Is it the XS you refer to? I still have my XS with a sunray probe on it and it would suit my needs if I didn't own a CTX. The CTX is in a class all by themselves. Get some time under your belt, real world hunting and then get back with us please.

Do you have the book by Andy? If not it might help you with the learning curve, forget what you know about the XS and give her a shot. I don't know how it would let you down in performance comparatively speaking. Most of my hunting is in the woods and open fields, very little water hunting as of yet. I treat my equipment with respect and she has been good to me.

Good Luck and HH

Kreagerm - You got a good one.... think what your attitude would be if you got a bad one?

Turn it in and get a new one. Just like if I bought a lemon of a car I wouldn't steer clear of that brand

I just don't get how you could spend a couple grand on a detector, try it out for an hour, think it worked well and then hang it on the wall for a couple years.

Only people that I have seen give the CTX bad reviews are (1) those that have not properly learned how to use it (2) those that don't have one.

The End

I understand what Silverseeker was saying by the title of this thread. Unfortunately there has been some issues with the detector and those threads that speak about those issues always get a lot of attention. I know, I have been here since the beginning and have seen it time and again. Typically they aren't all the most active posts on the forum at one time though. Overall the forum has been getting less active and a lot of members don't post as much or anymore. Things are changing I suppose.

The Title of my thread says it all (Seems Like) Never said the CTX was a piece of junk. Just stated for the money and parts used
it was cheaply made. Performance I know is one of the Top performers out there. Yes, promises were made in the beginning and
never delivered by Minelab.(Big Sales pitch) My beef was never directed at certain members until some that can't read between
the lines felt like it was a Personal attack on them. I guess some guys who live their lives indebted to a machine and any negative
comment towards their life blood gives them the need to laugh at others.I care less about these people and their negative comments.
You don't see me hiding around this post as I speak my mind and there are some in this thread that got my POINT and never felt
the need to BASH! Anyway I OWN a CTX 3030 and when I'm ready to pull her off the wall and see what she can do, I WILL!!!
At least I have her and she ain't going anywhere yet! I use a Great machine now and she serves me well. So as stated in original
post I will put her thru the paces in the last year of warranty and see if she holds out. If not Minelab will be fixing it, or if she makes
it with no troubles I'll know I got a good one. My experience with Minelab is if in the first 50 hours with no problems chances
are you got a Good One... This time period I mention is where my 1rst two Minelabs failed but #3 was the charm and I ran her
10 years without a FLAW and I'm sure she still running somewhere out there!!! No Hard Feelings toward anyone or their GREAT machines
which some eat, sleep and dream CTX 3030... So GKMan you have interpeted the Post correctly and THANKS!!!

I praise the CTX on other forums and bag it out here, that's the way its meant to be, minelab wont read the Tesoro forum but they might see this :poke:

so yes please I want a update sure it would be easy to do can I chose what signal response option I put in each bin in combined mode please.

thank you!!

Regarding warranties....

I am interested in Minelab's response to Rluka's problem with his screen and am awaiting his reply. I would like to know if Minelab acknowledged the problem wasn't handled during the warranty period or if they just decided to cover it perhaps as a goodwill gesture. If in fact they are admitting error, I think they are opening up a can of worms for themselves (which could benefit us) if they are covering out of warranty repairs.

"Crap shoot"! Everything is a crap shoot. A bad tail light on a Mercedes doesnt make it a bad car, just a bad tail light. I have had the CTX for almost 4 years now and it is a GREAT machine. Yes, I can say that I had to send it back twice, but Minelab service did a wonderful job on getting it right. I also had to take my $53,000 truck back for an emissions systems light, and it is a great truck! At my age I dont TRY to find fault, I try to find positives! I also believe the CTX is worth the money, every cent of it. I, like most others here, hunt with guys that use every other brand of machine out there, and EVERY brand has issues. The ATPro seems to have an issue with the cuff breaking, and it is a much cheaper priced machine, so I guess it should break using the logic that it was cheap to buy so it is made of cheap stuff. Wrong! The Pro is a great machine. I had to send my F75 back and it was brand new.

I agree, there is not a lot of activity on this forum, I got the idea that this forum was not especially for posting 'finds', but for posting about the machine itself. Questions, discoveries, programs, etc., and after several thousand of those type of posts, they are now consolidated in a few threads. So, that sort of leaves only positive comments, or complaints to be posted, and like some have said, not a lot are going to post saying how much they like the machine, leaving the complaints. Maybe, the idea of posting CTX 'finds' on this forum should be more welcomed and encouraged. Maybe a guidance for posting finds, with 'post the numbers', the target size, tone, etc..

Lastly, IMHO, there are some folks on here that know this machine! Jason, Sube, GK, etc.. Many times I get the impression from their responses to posts, that they are just a bit tired of posting answers to the same questions, comments, etc., and their posts/responses are a bit short! lol

The forum has evolved over the years. You would be hard pressed not to find an answer to your question by searching it. I see myself being one of the few that still posts finds and I do a lot less of the how to do this or that than I used to since you can only answer the same question so many times.

I'm reading this thread because I am considering a 3030.. I've had problems with a White's V3i, and White's took care if it so I really can't complain except that it's frustrating to have a brand new machine that doesn't work. The OP in this thread doesn't have that problem He bought an extremely expensive detector, used it for an hour, didn't have any problems with it (from what I can tell from what he posted), then hung it on the wall for 2 years and now is bitching about it being low quality and not 'updated'??? Am I missing something here? Sorry Silverseeker, but your post makes ZERO sense at any level. Others have hit the nail on the head telling you that you can't bitch about something that you don't know anything about. It appears that youve' taken a couple of complaints that owners have mentioned in the past and extrapolated them into problems with YOUR machine.. How you know that from 60 minutes worth of experience in the last 2 years is a mystery... Really, sell the damn machine while you still have some value in it... oh wait! You won't get any money from it because evidently, it's a piece of junk... I vote your post his as the most confusing of the year.
Why be unhappy?

Silverseeker I will not say anything bad has you have a right to think what you like, but I will buy it from you I would like a backup.

I have to chime in here, I was a bit offended by a post that states the only people here that complain about this machine are those that don't know how to run it or don't own one. Well.....here is my two cents. My machine has a bad screen and the battery seal leaked while wading in four feet of water.

What do I not know how to do? I keep my battery seal laboratory clean and finally replaced it with Frogman's which is a five dollar repair-shouldn't have had to do it, as for the screen problem. Did I make a mistake by not turning it on correctly??? I will be sending it for repairs at the end of the season. I believe we all have the right to voice our opinions here, after all most us purchased them new when they first came out and have not been entirely happy due to common problems.

I will close by stating I am happy with the depth and the faster recovery while in disc mode than other Minelabs I own and have used. The machine being worth 2,500.00 dollars??? I hope the new ones are better.

underwatermetalman, I think that if the OP put it like you did, there wouldn't have been a problem. in any consumer product theres going to be bad apples and that's why warranties and customer service is so important. I am sad to hear of your problems and I sincerely hope that Minelab will make you whole again (tho realizing that you can never get back the lost time and aggravation).

I realize that many folks expect perfection for a hi priced, hi end machine, but that is never going to be possible. The measure of a person or a company is how they conduct themselves under adversity.

Either you misread the post or you are just looking for a fight. Nobody said that anyone who had a problem..... they said the people who think the machines are junk have never taken the time to learn it or often those "complainers" never even owned one.

Now take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy your detector.

I would say for 2,500.00 I bought the right to my opinion, I am not looking for a fight just the right to disagree.

A detector that sits in the closet aint gonna find squat!

The Minelab BBS and FBS detectors are different from most other detectors and anyone that has used one in the past
and did not like it should not expect to like the new CTX 3030 any better.

I remember all the complaints about the sovereign when it first hit the market.
"Sounds like 25 cats under a wash tub" some said.
Some hated it ... some loved it.
Thank goodness there are so many detectors for the hobbyist to choose from.

I have had just about every BBS and FBS model Minelab made because I like the way they work for the type of hunting I do.
(mostly beach and salt water)
I expected no less from my new CTX-3030 and have been very happy with it.

For park hunting and coin shooting I choose the Dues ... Night and day difference but IMHO the best tool for the job.
Most all parks and school yards are hunted out and what is left is masked and difficult to ID.

So I guess my point is ... no one detector is gonna please everyone ... swap out and move on to something you like better.

Hey Willee, what's your Deus finding when your out hunting with the great CTX?
Squat, just like my CTX when I'm using my go to DEUS machine these days as I find
it to be a phenomenal machine. So I have A BRAND NEW CTX with all the goods
too. As I have stated many times in these posts I know the 3030 is a darn GOOD
machine too as I put plenty of time air testing and getting familiar with it.I have loaded Gone Huntings combined program
the day I bought it. Down the road I finally gave her a quick spin and in that hour I saw what this machine does. It finds
coins with Iron in the hole(trace option) just like the Deus but not with comprable depth or I.D. capabilities but still very capable.
Your right any machine can go bad. I had 3 explorer Xs's before Minelab got it right. Talk about a hassle! This is not a BASH
towards you as I'm just making a point that a machine sitting finds Squat. So use what makes you happy is right. And GUESS
WHAT, I know one day I will see how good the CTX really is. I know plenty who do great with one. I just choose not to use mine
at this time.I use the deus and my CTX will always be there for awhile anyway. Some of us guys that posted here are on the same
page as when this machine came out there were promises made to the consumer. I stated faults(wouldn't run on salt beach, etc.) from the get go in earlier posts.
So when you hear some of us say $2500.00, never again but I'm sure this machine will pay for itself one day as there's still
plenty to be found. Underwaterman, your darn right your entiltled to your opinion. I expressed mine and I guess I rubbed some of the
Greats wrong. I care less as we all have our opinions. To the positive posters, THANKS and Good Hunting!! Wishing all the members
herea Banner year for 2016. It's been an eventful post and I'm outta here and done posting on this topic!!!
