Quite amazed.....

Yep the Compadre is good..............................but the DeLeon is in a class of it's own. I just don't know why Tesoro does not promote it more. Greater profit in the non metered units I'm guessing. Oh what ever became of the Cazador???

I don't see Tesoro "promoting" any product. Seems that all of their advertising these days, is by us, the loyal users. I think that the main reason their TID models aren't more highly thought of, is that (1) they don't offer ground balance in disc. mode, and (2) there's plenty of (more modern) competition in that price range. As coin units, those models are intended mostly for use in manicured park areas, where soil is usually pretty "mild" and targets relatively shallow. A preset GB works fine there.

I had an Ace 250 in 2007. I didn't like it. And I was a big Garrett fan at the time. The old Freedom 2 was a great detector at the time (1990) and would have ran circles around the Ace.
But that's just my experience. If the Ace is getting you out hunting, then its a great detector.

WOW...this brings back memories..............I used to have a Freedom 3...... rugged ...built to last a lifetime..........found lots of gold rings with that rig.......the light plastic Garretts that came later were just not as good. I went to the Tesoro Toltec after my Freedom 3.

Just wondering was there ever a Garrett Freedom 4 ?? One of my detecting buddies swears there was........anyone know for sure?

If you get bouncing indications showing junk and several or more coin values, be sure to dig. 3 times out of 5 you'll be swinging over a coins spill.

I found a gold broach and a bent mens wedding band 14K..........both acted as you describe. It's not always a coin spill!!

Just be aware that the coil you are talking about will change the discrimination dynamics.....it will gain more of an appetite for bottle caps and iron. Also the target I'd will not lock on or be as stable. I learned this from Monte....he almost always uses concentric coils......even in nail infested ghost towns. I stopped using DD coils due to his observations. Get the 5.75" concentric coil.......then you Will really be cooking with oil!!! Large coils miss way too much in typical hunting situations. The 4" coils.....too small ....5.75 concentric is the way to go!!!

Had you actually put an 11x8 RSD coil on it, you would know that your statement is not true. I have no dog in this fight anymore. I am just telling what I know from experience when using that combo. I am parting with all of my Tesoros but I am going to miss the Deleon/RSD combo. I value Monte's knowledge but I have to disagree on this subject from having used that very same set up you are condemning. The RSD simply is the best coil for the Deleon. To each his own and happy hunting and many finds in the future.. Ivan

I know weird things happen with different situations. In British Columbia we vary from kind minerals to damn nasty and........ all else in between. The same machine acts totally different from one area to the next. Bibelot..............just curious why are you dumping all of your Tesoros?

Bibelot you're dumping all your tesoros?!?!

I know, right? Even if I stray into other makers, I'll keep my tesoros. Sounds like Bibelot is moving into some major league detectors and wants to recoup some of his capital.

I went through part of an old school yard today with my trusty little Fisher F2. It found a pocket full of clad and almost zero trash. Then I came back with my Vaquero. It found a few pulltabs etc but it also found a WW11 officers eagle hatpin and a 1 mark coin and another pocketful of clad. They both do great. The Vaquero pinpoints better, the Fisher avoids tabs slightly better. I love the nuanced tones from the Vaquero. I can tell most of the pull tabs from coins but I tend to dig them anyway.

Been there and done that ....spent big bucks on a high priced detectors. Guess what........ my ring counts didn't go up......coin counts stayed the same.......... but I spent a lot more time fiddling with the overpriced detector. Found out that most of the cool features worked best in the showroom. Helped to sell the detectors did nothing for me in the "real world" . You can keep your multicolored entertainment screens......I want to be detecting when I'm out there.

I think what Ivan says is very true. I haven't had any of those expensive machines before, anduring really don't feel the need to have them. 8/10 times, the Vaquero is what most detectorists need for their objective. After that, then I would see the compadre for tot lots, Deleon for parks, and Tejon for relic hunting or the vaquero.

Yeah stoofs, its just that they will seldom ever get used if ever, so its time to let them go to somewhere where they will be used.

So what machines will you use? You're getting rid of all your tesoros or some that aren't used?

I would somewhat disagree, but again I might not have what is a high priced detector. I have had a Vaquero for several years and liked it a lot. I do not think mine is particularly hot, but it does well. I found fault with it in that in areas that have a lot of old iron (farm equipment pieces, etc.), the DISC is quite lousy in getting rid of those, I bought myself an Xterra 705 and like it a lot because I found that it really gets rid of the iron and I can use the tones to pick out high conductivity metals. I recently went back to the Vaquero and found it was quite useful on school football fields picking out coins, some that I missed with the ID of the Xterra. If iron junk and aluminium slaw are not a problem, the Vaquero is a great coin hunter. So what I am saying is each has its worth.

Andy/homebre.............if you know anyone with a DeLeon...... exchange detectors with them for a hunt.......see what it can do. There was a club up here and once a month the members were urged to exchange detectors with a friend and see if they liked it or not. A good way to see if it's a go or no if you are thinking of a metal detector. The result were mixed.........some really liked the "exchange detector" others said they were glad to be able to try before they were in the mindset to buy!! Heck I let a frined use my DeLeon and he liked it so much he sold his Whites MXT!! I didn't see that one coming!!

I wish we had clubs here.
Found a couple gents that are near me but didn't respond when I asked if they wanted to hunt together....
I have many to try but Boone to share with lol.
I'd love to be able to take some fishers or whites or minelabs for a run. Too expensive to just blind buy.
I got lucky so far with blind buys and research... Luck has to run out soon... Lol

I have a used Minelab CTX 3030 that I am really liking a lot. I bought the used CTX the same week that I received a new Teknetics T2 classic. The CTX wasn't planned, it was priced right and located only 20 miles away so I could see it first hand before I bought it. My goal was to buy a XP Deus with the 9" coil and it most likely will be an addition before the end of next season. The T2 is nice, can change frequencies so the garrett pinpointer isn't interfering with it when in use. It has a bottle cap feature that distinguishes bottle caps from coins. It has a tone selection to distinguish nickels to a high tone as other coins are. The ground balance has to be set in all metal mode but then transfers to disc mode for you, unlike the Cortes. If you think you are not missing targets when using a fixed ground balance, think again. I am amazed at what I found after pounding the areas with my fixed ground balanced tesoros, Deleon included. Most missed coins are quarters for whatever reason.Good luck in whatever you decide to use, many finds in 2017 and Happy hunting.
