pull tabs

I forget to check my polar plot when I dig pull tabs. They come in on a lot of VDI#. Has anyone looked to see if you can see a difference from good targets and how many have found good targets that read as bad targets. Good tone good reading on screen and it turns out to be a bad target. That would be a target all by itself.

There is not a detector made that can tell the difference between aluminum and gold. Sure you can pick out some of the can slaw and some tabs but you will still have to dig a lot of targets to find the gold. The tools on the V just makes your percentage a little better.

I didn't mean gold...I was thinking along the lines of do pull tabs give a good reading when you are analizing a target..I would think it does I just get so exicted when I find a target I forget to slow down and analize it with the V3i

Many do and some don't. You probably have some that you have dug, just pass them over the coil and analyze them. There are some that you can learn to avoid digging when they come up and others you just have to dig because it might be a ring. Rob and I spent an afternoon analyzing tabs when the V3 first came out trying to find a loophole for gold and couldn't find one. Most tabs and some slaw sound and look real good.

On the V3i with the D2 coil a nickel is a VDI 19 for me. But so is several kinds of trash and one type of tab. On the other hand I have found 3 gold rings that had a VDI 19. As Larry said we experimented with the polar plot and sizing screen, there were no clues they could give to help us ID gold. Neither screen gives new information that the Spectragraph and pinpoint screen do not give. It just presents it in another form.

Thanks that is interesting it seems to me that with all the analyzing nothing beats out just digging the target to see what you have. I would think that for relic hunting with the iron in the ground and the tiny specks or flakes of iron you have to dig to find out what you have. I have had to do that on my other unit only to find some nice finds hiding in the iron. But then again on quarters so far I can tell them from trash...

If a place is carpeted with the dang things I stay away unless it shows good potential for "a lot" of good finds. If it is in an area that has some room between 'em, I dig the things, still catch myself trying to glean some tidbit of info, but it has become a game as to if I can determine what kind of tab it is.....rings show up. Fast retrieval, smart choice of where to hunt, and enjoying the determining of what kind of tab you'll be serving up, works for me. Can slaw is no fun.....

Yeah when are they going to help us find ringssssss!!!!!

Most likely never. A piece of slaw can be cut, folded, bent, etc. to give almost any VDI. A ring varying in gold content, size, and shape can also be all over the VDI range. So there is the problem. For every ring there is a matching piece of trash with the same VDI.

Low Boy, your post is a little confusing, but I'M thinking what your asking is with all the V's analyzing capability's, can you tell if you have a Pull Tab before you dig... and the answer to that would be No

I wish it was yes, Because I have coffee can after coffee can full of pull tabs, But I only dig the Pull Tab Range for the all Gold & Silver Goodie's

Good luck & HH

We understand that but our answers are read by many others besides yourself, 122 so far. The answer to your question is yes, but just about everyone is interested in finding gold rings and jewelry that falls into the tab and foil range. I and apparently Rob as well thought that something more than a yes answer would be appreciated especially for some of the newer users of the V.

Silver is our best chance from about 60-94...

Thanks so much I have to pay more attention do what I am digging but silver has the best chance on this machine. As I say if you can't hear it you can't dig it.

I look forward to the day that gold can be dug without pulltabs. This will also be that day that there will be no masking of silver or false targets. What a dream..... dont wake me.:stretcher:

For if we paid $ 1800 for failing to get into a scrap dirty place ... with a Viking V30 did the same thing (go to clean sites).
And never mind the caps of oxidized Cokes, which give a +80 VDI .... I thought that with this price, this detector might get into dirty places ...

You have to spend some time and effort learning your machine. You are new to detecting. What do you expect? ROB

I know Rob, but if there is no way to eliminate pulltabs etc, much to learn you still detects the right? that's what I meant. $ 500 detector does the same, find all pulltabs

Discriminate out the tabs if you don't want them.

Tabs in my area come in all over the place but it is best to really dig the targets in hopes of finding a ring. Just don't spend the whole day doing that. I go to a park and know there is going to so much more trash then good targets that I will dig it all for about three hours and then rest for another day.
