pull tabs

There are only so many types of tabs. Not all types of tabs will be found at any one site. You only have to discriminate the dominate tabs. You could also learn the VDI of the tabs and just not dig them. You risk losing some gold but you will have easier hunting.ROB

A metal detector (any of them) is not a magic wand and metal detecting is a learned art. No matter how much you spend on a detector, your success in the hobby will improve with experience. Some of us has 20 - 30 or 40 years experience in the hobby. Anyone can be lucky but the hunters who are consistently "lucky" have many years of experience. Just owning an $1800 detector does not make you good at detecting, you have to pay your dues by digging many thousands of targets. You will also have to invest the time to learn how to use your detector as well. I have been using the V for three years and I'm still learning.

While park hunting and your looking for Lost jewelry...........AVOID hunting near............. Picnic bench's..... sidelines at sports fields.........large trees.

these places are loaded with pull tabs and are NOT A physically active place ...........think about it.......... anyone play football near a oak tree or a picnic bench ?

Hunt only in sports fields and wide open ares between all the trees at your park

yes you are going to still find some Pull Tabs (not as much) hunting in the Physical activity places will (tremendously) increase your jewelry finds

I find more lost jewelry at my sports fields than I do on a busy beach (and I live in sunny ca)

like Larry says, you also have to put in your time, a 2 hour hunt, once a month is not going to cut it.

You have to dig (some) Tabs to find the Jewelry..... if you hunt smart

Good luck & HH

you can buy a lamborgini sports but hat doesnt mean you can drive it without a little practice but after the pratice WATCH OUT!!!

Pull tabs will always be there to dig....and whine about. (Been that way for 40+ years and bet it's going to be that way for a while still.) 1800.00 does not get you a pass to heaven yet, but whining will assure you of the "high heat" alternative. I do not hunt tab carpeting and dig mostly them all everywhere else. We do feel your pain but...pick areas better and dig fast.

LowBoy....I must have seen the same video and read the same things you did....as I also understood that polar plot would not produce the straight lines on a tab like a nickel or ring. After reading this thread I can see that polar plot is not to be trusted and is not any help on the machine at all. The good news is you don't need 20 or 30 years of detecting to get really good...you do need plenty of practice in the field and coin garden with a good machine. Testing with nails, junk and good targets is a good way to learn. In the field try to be observant before you dig...and learn something from each dug target and you can be as good as anyone in 1 years' time.

Nobody really knows WHAT the target will be before they dig but you can learn what its NOT gonna be with just a little practice. I hunt with plenty of guys that say 30 years of digging and my old Betsy can find it all....Almost always my coin count is higher with more silver and I don't have 20 total years of experience. There is no mystical path from the metal detectors of the past that empowers you abilities.... You need to learn how the technology works on the machine you have and apply that knowledge in field situations and PRESTO!! You're an expert!!

If this works for you, Rob, OK. But I ALWAYS detect around the shade trees near a ballfield....that's where the girls with the jewelry sit watching the boys play football. Sure, I dig up pull tabs, but I also find a lot of clad and the gold. Matter of fact, my best away-from-the-beach jewelry finds have all come near trees or park benches....Besides, excepting the show-off pros, who wears expensive jewelry while butting heads as a lineman, chasing fly balls, or kicking that soccer ball around? A few, sure, but most of the smart ones give their goodies to the girlfriends to hang onto while they play - that way the girls can lose 'em. lol.

Same for me trees are a god palce to find rings and such
