I'm glad your doctor was at least knowledgeable enough to diagnose what was wrong. The first four I saw had no idea what so ever. I incurred the injury at work but was told by my union delegate that I'd need medical certificates of the injury before I could go on compo. I've found out only recently how wrong that info was. It took 3 weeks to find out and make a claim. I was accused of doctor shopping by work (who is self insured) and told that I couldn't return to work till I was fit. It took 9 weeks (the first 6 of which I didn't know if I would work again). Although the Physio had no doubt about how the injury occurred (3 prolapsed discs) I stupidly only went to the Union lawyer who was about as intelligent as the first 4 doctors I saw. End result. I couldn't fight them and had to burn up all my leave entitlements just to keep the money rolling in.
The good news is, that at least here, we don't have to fork out anywhere near as much as you do in the States, for medical treatment. We can and sometimes do, when we get operations done outside the medicare net (gov funding for most things medical). It sounds like you need to be wealthy to be sick over there.
BTW. I had a full set of blood tests done only a few weeks back and it didn't cost me a cent. The doc cost around $50 but got half back with the medicare rebate. There are still a few doctors over here that still bulk bill. 9that means you don't pay a cent out to see them) Unfortunately they are becoming a rare breed now as the rebate system isn't keeping pace with inflation.
While these posts don't have anything to do with detecting, it is interesting to see how some of the day to day things, impact on our lives in different countries.
