Next tesoro I should buy? Opinions wanted

Well gents, I'm in the market for another tesoro.
I currently own a deleon and compadre 8".
Just curious on your opinions.
Out of production models count as long as they are available easily.
I'm leaning towards a silver umax for price but seems only one step up from compadre so might be a waste.
I like the vaquero, but considering what my fors relic does for almost the same as what I've seen the vaquero do, I don't know about spending that much.
But I'd like to hear.
Love to find a golden umax that's not overpriced :-(
Also, should I just wait for the new model that's supposed to be coming out?

Depends on what your getting it for. I have the Relic and the Vaquero and use them both quite often.

Not sure really.
I use my compadre for trashy parks but also considering getting a 5.75 for my deleon or a small CORS coil for it. I have the relic which has the small and large coils.
I really like using the compadre for its simplicity however I haven't had much time with my deleon and it's with tesoro now.
Just curious what everyone's ideas are on which one and why compared to cost.

I agree greenmeanie. That's been my issue is the price people are asking.

I wouldn't get a Silver uMax unless you were selling the Compadre or just want a machine with changeable coils.

I like to keep one of their basic, do-anything Epsilon uMax models around. Especially for working in trash.

Looking at your signature, and if you really like Tesoros, I believe you need one of the following:

1) Eldorado uMax
2) Bandido II uMax

Both have manual GB, interchangeable coils, and great discrimination. I have the Bandido II and it would beat my Fors Core in a nail board test hands down. The Bandido was wearing it's stock 8" Brown Donut coil, and the Core had the 5" OOR coil. I sold the Core shortly after that.

For working in trash, you can't beat the older Tesoros. The depth isn't too shabby either if you get one that's working in tip top shape. The Eldorado has a nicer tone pitch, but the Bandido II has a true No-Motion All Metal mode thats super handy for pinpointing and getting an idea for how big the target is. Great for telling big iron before you dig.

I really like my origina bandido I got not too long ago. The no motion all metal really is amazing for pinpointing and being my first detector with ground balance , it has spoiled me.
I just did the external ground balance mod on the silver umax because I liked it so much on the bandido. I would not get the silver unless you wanted to add ground balance to it .

If you are looking for used, then Golden, Bandido II or Eldorado could all be useful....if you are looking at new Vaquero or Cibola would be a change from what you have...depends on whether you want manual ground balance or not. HH

They seem to be expensive for the golden and bandido II detectors. They end up going for 400. Not sure if that's a normal price but it's alot lol.
Be nice to know what the noreal prices are.

outlaw 437 $ new, same detector as a Bandido II µMax the 2 doesn't have the red button that seems to get people hot under the collar  the outlaw is brand new I know which one I chose. but then I chose a few

Imho, if you're buying new, I have a Silver uMax, Vaquero, and Cibola.

The key to depth for me is the new 11x8 RSD coil, a huge difference from the stock coils. I've added the 11x8 to my three Tesoros....

Get the Vaquero with 11x8 for $460. The Cibola 11x8 RSD is only an inch or two behind it for $365. If you get the Silver uMax for $250, you'll have to pay $140 to add the 11x8 RSD coil, there's your $400 to buy a much better detector with 11x8 RSD coil to start with.

Whatever you do, my point is, whether you get a Tejon, Vaquero, or Cibola, get it with the new 11x8 RSD coil so you don't end up wasting $140 more to add it later like I did. If you notice, the Vaquero and Cibola with 11x8 RSD is only like ten bucks more over the stock 9x8.

If you get a Silver uMax or any of the older Tesoros, the coils won't work with the Cibola-Vaquero-Tejon when you upgrade. Also the higher 14.5khz frequency hits gold jewelry deeper than a silver quarter where the 10khz of the Silver uMax struggles with. Your Deleon is 10khz, get you a higher 14.5khz machine, the gold depth increase is noticeable without losing silver coin depth.

A lot of people will say depth isn't everything and they are correct, but I may be in the minority. I'll take the depth of the Vaquero over any older model with some feature I'm not missing. Air testing a men's gold ring at 12-14 inches with a Vaquero compared to six or eight inches on a Silver uMax is something I can't ignore. But again, that's just me....

I wish I liked my 11x8... Aside from better coverage I feel the depth is lacking. Pretty new to the hobby however.

Looks to me like you're fine, especially if you have one to match the Vaq.

Not so much that it matches it really. It goes as deep as anything I've seen yet. But it's a different type of detector. It's a bells and whistles one (and lots of them) but there's something about the tesoros lol.

I'm not sure what machine you are putting it on but I share your opinion on the 11x8. I've used it on my conquistador and Silver uMax with the ground balance mod.

My 11x8 on my Bandido II isn't any deeper than a 9x8 concentric in my red dirt. And the pinpointing is quite a chore with the 11x8 if you are used to Tesoro concentrics or even their round widescans.

My thoughts on the coil are mostly: Meh.

The only other knob machine that I really love next to tesoro is the Whites IDX/IDX pro and the Whites classic SL , the models with the black sand switch which actually gives the lower end discrimination more resolution. I feel like these machines run so darn smooth when you crank up the power. I feel like the disc and separation is as good or better ....of course there not made anymore and not as hot on small micro gold. But in my personal opinion these Detectors rock and can be had for around $100 to $200...there are a few coil options as well ! I love the trigger for pin point and all metal. The SL or classic three is the same machine as the IDX, it just does not have the screen. I have dug large cents and buttons @ 8" . I have loved my tesors vaquero, cibola ,silvers and tejons and compadres....for some dang reason I just love those old Whites they work so good for my type of hunting as did the tesoro's !

There's a nice Eldorado for sale on the Depot classifieds right now. It's what you need to complete your collection!
