New metal detecting permit

Doh!!!! My apologies, I must have been too anxious for knowledge and somehow I skipped over page 2 of the post . That is a great explanation, I'll definitely give it a try.

I really don't understand how your suppose to get anything out of the ground with no knife or whatever. are you suppose to scare it out?
Move to texas, all city parks here are free to detect without permission although I do ask the parks directors anyway.

Too bad it's come to this. But, the reason for almost any law, permit or license is the nature of some people to engage in activities which are harmful
to others, the environment or just plain common sense. Congratulations to Steelhead for getting the bureaucrats to enact the permit ordinance. MD ers in your
area owe you a big "Thank you"

what you are dealing with here is phsycological interaction with your "head!"..the objective IS to discourage you from detecting in the park in the first place!
the "powers that be" "couch" the "so called" directives of the permit in terms that explain precisely WHAT you can and cannot do!..the point IS by telling you to use a probe, they will allow you to "break" the ground, and effect recovery of a buried item...MOST hunters do NOT probe,or do NOT know how to use one,so therefore they are attempting to discourage you from hunting in the park at all..they WANT you to go somewhere else, and THAT is the reason for passing the ordinance!..

as an addendum!..it has been stated, and i agree..that it is imperative that people in the hobby learn to dig,and recover a coin PROPERLY,so as to eliminate any DAMAGE to the site you are hunting!..as a direct result of irresponsibility of a few careless individuals, the end result is the passing of ordinances requiring permits to engage in the hobby.

You know the thing that kills me about so called public places like parks paid for with public tax dollars are paid by everyone then become the private property of the few in power. They dictate what is permissible and what is not by their own personal taste in entertainment, if they like tennis well check out the tennis facilities. That would apply to any other sport also like baseball or hockey you name it, but if it is something like metal detecting something they don't do, well hell we need to have a permit for that and tons of rules and regulations. Lets make the softball crowd get a permit and they can't slide into second base it tears up the ground you know. And those damn joggers they need a permit to they are a regular traffic hazard plus they wear paths all over the park.
You could go on and on about every activity that people do, face it guys they are picking on us and singling us out, and we need to fight back not be grateful an humble because they threw us a bone. That is public property and we have a right to be there and enjoy that property just like everyone else. we don't have a right to destroy the place but digging a reasonable whole to recover a find is necessary to enjoy our hobby, and we all know it is not damaging if done correctly.I don;t know what the answer is but it sure as hell ain't being humble and thankful, You take that approach and it is just a matter of time before they take it away from you. I think we need to stand up and demand our rights like everyone else does who's with me lets march, I have a dream and I've seen the mountain top and there gold I tell ya. woa I need to take my pill!

A-men, I'm with you Duts I agree with every thing you said. You are 100% right.

Well thank you I was going to include cheer leaders in my list, they get out there jumping around in them little skirts and I can't get any detectin done, all that jigglin destroys my concentration. But then I decided that we have to make some sacreefices don't ya know!

How do you get the item out of the ground? Pop it out with a probe?

Crabby
