Nice post guys. It's nice to have another perspective. I am not arguing with what you have stated. I think you've mentioned some things great from a marketing perspective relating to my question.
Eddie, I stated this was not about brand loyalty, or brand fixation or whatever we may call it. We all want the best detector (or at least best detector for the money). I'm honestly not approaching this from an ego point of view, though I can understand that if 10 people read my post I'm pretty certain we will get 10 differing opinions (however slightly or vast they may be).
Steve:
I think it's a wise decision for FT to distance themselves from Bounty Hunter. Even though they make some nice detectors (I hear) the connection with Wall Mart and their earlier models is still "haunting" them today, at least with enough people to affect thier marketing.
I think what I'm talking about is the brand "Feel", not loyalty. Not that one is better than another but rather, people get attached to how certain detectors operate (ie. Minelabs swing slow, Fishers are built like a rock, T2 is super fast, DFX is super programmable, etc). And, (I'm projecting here) I can just imagine the long time Fisher user picking up this new Fisher and (though loving it's performance) feel that what they come to know as Fisher, is no longer. Maybe that will change (I bet it does with time) as it takes a while to combine technologies and designs...
My best analogy to describe what I'm trying to get accross would go something like this:
Some people drive Harleys not to necessarily try to be cool or say "I got a Harley". They like the way it feels. They like what it stands for. They like it's history. It is definitely quite unique. There are other makes that are just as good, this is all arguable according to preferences, needs, etc. Now, if another manufacturer bought Harley and put out a much better bike (but in thier way better), not to the Harley users who want the feel of a Harley... see where I'm going? This is not a brand loyalty thing, it's more like I'm paying for this Fisher to get a Fisher, not something else even though it may be better than what we have right now. (Ok, in time I can see it evolving, but not the very next model).
I'm trying to be neutral on this as far as us detectorists are concerned. My perspective was more in a marketing sense (brand recognition, not loyalty) sense. I'm glad no one attacked me (yet) as I'm definitely not trying to start anything... as we're all in the same family...
