moving from XL-Pro to V3i

Hi all;
Been lurking on the V3i site for awhile now. I've only posted a few times on the vintage section of this forum. I'll be buying a new V3i in the next couple of days
and making a few calls to dealers to see what kind of deals I can make (yes I'll be calling the advertisers on this site and others).
I've been MD'ing for a long time, built my own TR MD back in 1975 from plans in a Radio and Electronics magazine. That old girl found some good stuff back then!
The XL Pro I'm now using is a good machine but has always been somewhat limited in the choice of search coils so it's time to upgrade and would like some opinions
from you guys on some options to go with the new detector.
I'm thinking that along with the standard 10dd coil I'd go with either the Whites 6x9 dd or the 6x8 sef and also the 5.3 whites eclipse to start. Eventually the little whites
shooter coil and 950 could be added. I like the 5.3 coil as it has been very effective in the 5.3 bullseye coil on my XL Pro and I need at least one concentric in my arsenal
to start (opinions welcomed here).
I think it will be interesting to see how the V3i does in areas I've already hunted heavily. I can already tell that with the V3i I will be using the stereo mixed mode the most.
I'm primarily a coin and jewelry hunter but hunt any place where I may find the old stuff. Now if just the snow here in the northeast would melt!

Sounds like a good plan. I added 5.3 and 950 when I upgraded from xlt to v3i....just be sure coils are v-rated. Good luck with the new machine....think you'll love it. I also use stereo mm and it's the stuff...lol..gl and hh!!!

I think you will be happy with the V3i. Just take it slow. Main adjustments, if any, that you would want to start messing with would be the sensitivity, delay and filters. That's about it in my opinion. Maybe using single freq 22 for gold jewelry hunting and 3 for silver/copper coin hunting if the soil conditions allow for it.

As far as coils, you listed some good ones. Be aware, I don't think the 8x6 SEF is V rated. I have one, and use it on my MXT Pro (it does not come off of it), but have not tried it on the V3i yet. I like the Whites 5.3 on the V3i....nice coil.

I had an XL-Pro...one with the tone mod. Should have never sold that one ! Got another one without the tone ID mod, but since I am mainly a tone ID kinda guy, it was hard going back so I sold it. The XL-Pro is still one of the best all time coin hunters regardless.

The V3i will compliment it very well with more options and it can handle a multitude of soil conditions. Plus, it has one of the best screens and target ID info out there. Analyzing targets using the Polar Plot is cool, and the ability to see what the strongest frequency ( of the 3 if using 3 frequency mode) the target signature is emitting is a plus. You can really cherry pick certain targets among trash if you want to. Will definitely be a better gold jewelry hunter, and for sure the better salt water beach hunter if you venture on down to the wet sand.

The wireless headphones, although not necessary, are a nice option.

Good luck on your purchase. If you take it slow, I think you will be more than happy with the V3i.

Yes I believe it's the white V SEF coil I need.

Forum posts and reviews state it's an awesome coil. I am looking at getting one for wet, salt sand hunting.
