More often than not..................

 Hey Blueduck---That's a good one!!--Cracked me up!---I'm not a young pup either (I'm 72 yrs. old).-----It's a WHOLE LOT more fun when you gotta work your ars off to get those coins.-----What kinda fun is it to just bend over & pick those SAME coins up off the ground???-----I think you've got the mark of a TRUE treasure hunter!! ;) -----It's just like you said--it's all about the anticpation of that next target---it may WELL BE the biggy (or most interesting find yet). --------Del

Today was a decent example for me. I hunted with a friend at an old park. Not much luck but the possibilities are there..Its a great motivator. I came back into sight of Lucky Dig & we compared finds..He had about the same clad total. But he snagged a "gold" ring. It had some pitting so not really gold but hey- a ring!.

I have to admit I had hoped I would be the one with the ring. But hey we had fun & learned a great lesson in the areas history from a local couple. The kinda info you love to hear-where the trolley turnaround was etc.

As I got home I was greeted by my 2 girls who wanted to go to the playground. I posted about it below-I got my "gold" ring also. And the competitor in me was soo happy.

But then I found an old tin type. It depicts two polo players locked in battle. My father long deceased played polo & I can't help feeling I was meant to find it...As a reminder.

Reading this thread made me reflect on the competitive side of this hobby. I used to compete in motor sports & did well.

But finds like the tin type helped remind me I'm digging up history. I almost always learn something new researching a find . I have gained a lot of knowledge about Portland Oregon I would have never availed myself of.

This is a great hobby IMHO. I'm not going to let my competitive side ruin that.
Cheers

I enjoy it every time I go out, but it sure makes you feel good when you meet or exceed your goals - and get to brag to your buddies about it.

Nothing wrong with a little friendly competition, as long as it stays friendly.
