Minelabs Count Down...

the xp deus cant do in the water cause of the wireless coil ...i think u will have the same problem with the headphones on this unit ... unless u can plug in as well

I haven't used it very much, but tell ya what. It's just a different version of an Excal for around $500.00 total. Only drawback is you have to set the controls inside the waterproof case, and can't turn it on or off, or adjust it, without opening the case again. But that only takes about a minute to do. Worth it??? heck yes! Its nice to have a backup for the notoriously finicky Excal. ( Why do the best ones have to be so finicky all the time?)

The neck looks like it is long enough to keep the display screen out of the water if you wanted to if you were waist deep and the wireless head phone transmitter can be shoulder mounted . Jim

Hard to say based on the photos, but it looks like you can use only wireless head set; doesn't look like you can use wired headphones if you want to. Not sure that's true or not, just basing that on the photo.

Well I guesss someone at Minelab is getting fired becaused that SUCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LMAO! You might want to read my long but very critical overview of what I think about this thing. I'm let down in a big way. Too heavy. Too many questionable features (think overkill like on a high end Whites). And WAY too expensive at well over $2000 suggested retail price! Don't expect that price to come down too much either, because they won't want it taking sales away from the Etrac and the Etrac is too new to drop the price on.

Read my rant...Some of my best work. It's on this page about halfway down. You can't miss it, as it's as big as a semi truck.

I must admit I am excited about this new machine. Although until we know the specs it is really hard to say for certain. But I am thinking that armed with an Excal and one CTX3030 you are pretty much ready for anything (unless perhaps your specialty was gold nugget hunting).

I heard that the machine can see items in color and 3 d.

I high doubt it. Beyond the realm of VLF abilities in science. It's not a technology thing that can be achieved via better technology, it's the limits of what information you can get out of the simple reaction between a metal object and a magnetic field. There is only so much information you can get out of that interaction. It's like trying to ask a baby that only knows a few words the nature of the universe. The baby (coil's detection field interaction with a metal object) only has so many things it can "say" about the object.

Sure, they could do something simple like putting a different color on the screen based on the conductivity value of the target, but I'd rather have the VDI # and not a color to judge conductivity with. It's not really new information, just a different way to display it.
