Metal detecting on TVA operated public beach acess points?

George, some people wont dare hunt on prohibited federal lands, but constantly agitate for others to do so. I'm not sure of the motivation of individuals like that, but I find it reprehensible.

If the east is too far to travel to for federal land hunting, maybe our agitator should go try the hunting at Vandenburg or Pt Reyes National Seashore......
Be sure to alert the local media so we can all enjoy the outcome.

Everybody has to determine where they fall in this debate/subject, before heading out and then hunt in a manner that brings that person peace, relaxation, and targets, without hurting anybody or the Sport...great points on all sides, never a waste to bring this subject up, it forces a person to wrestle with themselves regarding what a Man has to do individually on this Planet that brings the least amount of trouble and the most amount of pleasure in the short time you are here, without damaging a guys soul....As the 'laws' become more restrictive on nearly any outdoor pursuit, a guy has to be aware of them and decide what their level of compliance will be, the measure of risk, evasion/invisible skills earned, and what punishment they are willing to accept for violating 'laws'...just like speeding...

A persons position on this subject CAN change depending upon a given day, location, or situation....I'm sure we are all 'law abiding' to a fault, but would all shoot a deer out of season if the situation merited...Its probably best to start out and stay on the 'High' ground legally, but be ready and capable of going full Pirate if the situation dictates.. I would NEVER tell a noob to go and detect Gettysburg, or the front lawn of the Whitehouse! Thats much too ambitious a goal for the unskilled! But I bet if a noob timed it right, depending upon the weather, there'd be no problem!...those places are best left to the 'professional invisible' people that paid their dues...like me!
Mud.

mudpuppy, I agree 100% with your post. I strongly believe that an individual should make an Informed Personal Decision. My beef is with those that only encourage others to get into trouble.

I also firmly believe that a person shouldn't tell others to do something he is afraid to do himself. (eg, hunt on known prohibited FEDERAL lands).

"found 3 slave tags at a closed school".

Was hunting at this "closed school" dis-allowed, somehow ? If so, then it could have some bearing on this topic, of places where boiler-plate minutia rules exist. Sure. But if we're talking about a school (open or closed or whatever) that it wouldn't be unusual to see a guy md'ing (as is a common site, and not-disallowed), then notice that those archies you speak of .... STILL would be "screaming" as you say. In other words, they "scream" ANY time they see a dug-item on ebay, NO MATTER WHERE it's found.

Thus if your goal is to "keep every last archie happy", then ....... I'm afraid you've chosen the wrong hobby :(
