Let's tell Minelab what WE would like to see in an "Explorer 4"

1. Lighter Weight, not so heavy, less pounds and some less heaviness.
2. Waterproof would be good if it was light weight
3. Deeper with less iron false signals if it was light weight (what the heck we are wishing anyway)

They have seen repeated comments since the darn things came out about weight ect..... but it seems they are blind to our comments or its to costly to give us these changes. We have the same issue with say the Xcal..... just send us the coil and pods since we have to do the rest any way. The biggest change id like to see is for them to listen to the users. Redesign is expensive, but if you are going to do it do it all the way. If you produce a good product you will get your money back. Its hard to put down BIG money on a land machine.... why? Because we dont sell a lot of our finds they are for our pleasure. So we would like the best on the market... but the cost and return we really have to think about it and look around for one ALMOST as good at a cheaper price. The AT pro was a good example. Keeping good finds and paying for the equipment with some targets like gold and silver jewelry and clad takes a lot of time. Now on a water machine i think differently..... ANY machine will pay for its self in a short time if you hunt. So buy the best regardless of price.... its found money. When the gold prices change.... then we will be in the same situation. Id love to see something new in the box with all the computer gurus cant believe thats not possible then make it so we can swing it all day.

I'd like to see a feature where the travel of the cursor on the Smartscreen is recorded for a few seconds. I.E. we look for a pattern that the cusor might travel of IH pennies that are deep, so why no have a feature that can log this mometarilly. color coded depth readout would be nice.

I personally would love to see the ability to mask out the top 2, 3, 4, or 5 inches. Though it would be unusual, there are times that I hunt just for deepies. Just as I choose to leave certain tones un-dug upon occasion, I leave the surface stuff in the ground sometimes. The ability to mask out a certain depth in the upper regions would be nice in a lot of locales. Also, it is time for a color screen with daylight viewing abilities.

Pin Point:
The most frequently used function deserves a more prominent and much more instinctive location. It should be accessible without looking. The button is hard to find with the cover I use and gloves. No way to feel the slightly raised button. I have instinctively learned where to mash the control to hit the button without looking, but it should be easier. I frequently use the pinpoint with the sunray probe when I am in a hole. With the detector lying on the ground, it takes some excessive effort to locate the button.

Weight:
Offer the internal speaker as an option that can be user installed into or onto the detector. I don

INteresting concept ..... heads up display. I can see us now with a fighter pilot helmet on getting those tones and watching the targets.... better than a video game. Not certain we will get a faster response. Why? because someone with some technical back ground said the FBS is a hybrid PI.... which means if we increase response we will pick up smaller items but loose our depth since this short response time gives the SE time to get a better picture of the target. Im surprised no one has mentioned BLUE TOOTH lol. Wireless headphones. There have been a TON of excellent suggestions..... but id bet we see them on the Etrac before the SE. Its the best (ya right) machine oooooo and has a higher price tag..... so a newer better machine than the Etac.... everyone would expect a higher price tag.

I want to see a programmed coil feature....a coil within a coil. Push a button and you have a 10 inch coil active, push again and you have a 5 inch active and back and forth for trashy areas....I know Sunray et al will hate you for it, but seriously....its time. Changing coils is a pain and I always hit areas where parts are trashy and others are not. I don't change coils back and forth in the field; takes too much time and time is valuable.

I've only used the Minelab Explorer XS but the one thing I'd like is a faster processor. I feel like I have to go REAL SLLLLOOOOOWWWW if I want really good seperation. That said, don't go hog wild and start changing stuff, this is the best machine I've ever used (Maybe the etrac is a big step forward?) and I can slow down to get what I want! LOL.
And I'd say make the speaker optional if that's possible. I've never used it in 10 years except air testing.
I'd like to see the shaft clamps beefed up.....mine has cracks up by the housing. It seems flimsy and I've been worried from day one it was going to break off.

DO NOT change:

1. Learn and Edit modes. They are awesome as they are.
2. Awesome silver response

I would like to see the coil and shaft as one part and the control housing separate, a chest placement would be my choice, that would help the problem of seeing the screen, it would be 6 inches below your chin, when I am detecting I am watching the ground in front of me so it would be a natural. With no housing on the shaft it would be very light and since my feedback is from coil movement it would be perfect. As it is I swing the weight of the control housing for no good reason.I would place the batteries in the control housing also taking that weight off my wrist, I also agree on dropping the speaker, nobody uses it. I think I am a jenius!

1. Greater depth, even if it means more weight.
2. Adjustable pinpoint tone, I like a higher pitch for pin point than the default on the Explorer 11
3. Depth bar wider with depth number displayed. I don't like guessing depth.
4. Non glare screen.

I thought the Etrac was the improved version of the explorer. I wish the control box could rotate left and right so it could face the user directly. The ability to add specific tones to specific numbers, and a built in transmitter for wireless headphones. Either bluetooth or FM. Idigid.

I have a picture of an Exp on a straight carbon shaft that is water resistant using the battery pod like the Xcal. Give me a flip switch like on a Whites for PP improve the ability to SEE the screen.... maybe color. Id say its a great silver machine so lets work on its ability to find gold..... but ive not found any gold yet that the Xcal finds that wont hit on the SE. The gold im talking about is chains. That tells me its a matter of knowing where to look and just a plan fact that parks and such have 10 times the trash as a beach. Up the processing speed a bit. Good park and beach machine.

I would like to say numbers and cursor displayed on the same screen like on the Etrac or at least give me choice of running them at the same time.

the screen is impossible to see during certain times of the day no matter what you try to do to fix it.

I hunt 100% by sound first anyway...but still like to see cursor flutter and placement...as well as utilizing the unique SE pinpoint feature.

That's the way I do it Bryce. Just can't see that screen very well.

I made a call to Minelab and talked to a tech. about the display being so hard to see. I finally realized he wasn't going to offer any real solution and my parting words were----"-Please be realistic here and compare this screen to the screens of some other high quality detectors and you will see why we're frustrated. I also said that it's a great machine, and it would be even better if they would improve the display" Thanks
