Forgot to mention about the eagle button. On the back is AMERICAN BUTTON CO. *NEWARK N.J.*
Manufactured 1901-1920 for the US military. Another first for me.

Last couple trips out. A whole lot of junk not shown, but a couple cool finds. First 2 pics are from earlier in the week. The last 3 are from today.
Couldn't believe I lasted 3-1/2 hrs. Usually my back is in agony after 2 hrs. Two barbers today. 1913 is the decent one. the mangled is 1916.
A silver ring missing a large stone. The teardrop shaped object looks like a hat badge.

Can anybody ID the locking mechanism? I was thinking maybe an old WWI era car, but the skeleton keyhole just doesn't seem right.

Ive been out to the field a few times since my last post. For some reason the first couple times I wandered pretty aimlessly in order to get a feel for the area.
I think we all do that, but for some reason my coil kept landing on silver. Recently I've been gridding the area I believe the house was located. After gridding for a while, I start wandering over the rest of the field because my back starts hurting from the baby steps taken while gridding the field.
I've hit many targets above 88 TID, but few have been silver. Most were scraps of copper etc. Here are the better finds. I won't waste your time showing the trash.
I have found various silverware and flatware. But only spoons and forks. I've found parts for 3 pocket watches, three pocketknives, 5 rings (one silver). a couple dozen ointment tubes, a couple dozen make-up cases, a lot of change, pennies and dimes, not a single nickel so far, many tin buttons and buttons for over-all's (none saved).
I'm of the mindset now that there was a house and business. I believe there was a fire in one or the other, maybe both burned down. Then possibly a park or sports field occupied the location around the early to mid 20's.
The melted metal in the first pic I believe is tin (~450deg melting temp). The mangled ring in the first pick is silver plated. The gold looking object in the bottom left corner is part of a gold-plated pocket watch case. Gas valve in the second pic. Detective badge in the 3rd pic but I don't know if its authentic or toy. 4th pic is lead casting, maybe an art project? 5th pic might be a dog license.
6th pic is WWI rifleman pin. 7th pic are a couple examples of the make-up cases I found. Both are only 1/2 of the case. Last is yesterday's hunt. Not sure what the ring is, maybe off a lamp or some other household item?
Going back out in a few to continue my adventure. It's been a fun field to hunt. I'm like a dog on a bone with this location. I don't know how long I have till the farmer decides to turn the soil and begin planting.

You have some great finds there! I haven't had anything worth posting from the couple of fields I hunted this year and we got a good soaking of rain last night.

The low hanging fruit is slowly disappearing. I did find a gold-plated ring which gives some promise of gold jewelry. It rang in at 80 on the Deus-2. That's the 6th ring I've found out here.
I pulled 2 SLQ's out of the ground yesterday. The signals were so bad I thought they were small scraps of copper. 1917 was in good condition but the 1920 was all mangled from the sod equipment.
I found them in the same general location I dug the barber dimes.

Some of the latest finds. High conductors 80 TID and up are becoming few, so I've started digging solid low conductors down to 50 TID on the Deus-2. But I haven't covered old ground that I've already gridded.
There is a general area toward the back half of the property in the middle of the field where I've found the quarters and a majority of the dimes. That's the area between the two rises in the field.
1st pic, the small dime sized item with a star was at first thought to be a button, but when I cleaned it up, it looks like some sort of end cap. Not sure if it's silver, but the back is brass.
2nd pic, various scraps. The ball is about 1.5 inches in dia. Maybe a clock weight? (lots of clock gears dug). Seems too small for a gate weight, but I have no idea.
3rd pic, the tube at the bottom looked like a rimfire rifle round before I cleaned it up and saw the ornate design. Could it be a lipstick tube? Not sure about the handle, looks too big for a clock key. Maybe a tamper resistant gas or water valve key?
4th pic, shows the SLQ's I found. See how mangled the coins come out of the ground. The sod equipment really did a number on everything.
5th pic, I think I've discovered the reason I've found so many trade tokens. The first two rows are various blank rounds. The last shows a sample trade token. I believe it was a site where trade tokens were manufactured, or the person worked for a manufacturer in Detroit, MI
and brought extras home. All the tokens are for various businesses in Detroit.

Thanks for looking. Any ideas are welcome. Of course I get the advantage of all the scraps I throw away that help identify what may have been at the site. I do have a luggage tag with the name "Paige" on it. The tax history shows someone with the surname "Paige" owned the property at one time.
Some pretty big brass items have been dug. I should have kept everything and given it to the scrappers. I didn't realize how it was going to add up over the past several hunts.
I've kept some of the larger pieces to put out for local scrappers. I don't do scrapping anymore because it's just not worth the aggravation to drive to the scrap yard and go through all the gyrations for $20 worth of metal. Nor do I like collecting it in my garage until I have enough to make it worth my time.
