Is the CTX 3030 screen suppose to be flat

diggerdick

New member
The screen on my CTX is slightly domed I tried to put a screen protector on but because it is dome just a little bit it will not stay on I did not use the nu view I tried different brand I have ordered the nu view is there some trick to putting it on I will now have $ 30.00 I n this it is getting costly thanks for any help you can give

I have used several brands with no problem. The Nu shield installs easily. I cut it to fit. One tip I can give you is that I sprayed a little Windex on the screen to make application a little easier.

Hi Diggerdick
Defiantly supposed to be flat..
I am going through that myself..
I had the same problem with mine the screen is domed, it is a factory defect, What I don't understand is why it wasn't caught by quality control....
Talked with Andrew at NED and sent him pictures of mine with a card on the screen.. The card doesn't touch the sides of the control box because the screen protrudes outward..
I tried 3 times with Nusheild with the same results you had..
Even took it to a window tinting place and they had the same problem I did..
Just wanted to confirm that it wasn't error on my part..
I knew as many people that were saying Nusheild worked great something was up...
I may be dumb and a little slow but knew I shouldn't have a problem installing screen saver..
So yes you're correct, it should be flat..
Waiting on an RMA # from Minelab to ship it back..
I also believe that the glare is compounded with this defect.
So what this means is there is no film that will work..
I am also aware of at least 1 other person with the same problem...
Sonny

I trimmed my "unnamed" protective cover to only cover the actual screen, not the entire screen and control panel. I don't know if that would help you or not.

Same here, trimmed to fit the screen only...Total of 5 attempts....
I don't believe there is any film that you could make cover the entire panel,l and it stay stuck..
It's a defective screen..
That has already been confirmed by my vendor..
Thanks..
Sonny

I also had problems with the semi-rigid type like the Nu-Shield. The weak adhesive is not stong enough to make them fully conform to a surface that isn't pretty flat.

My second attempt was with a HD Zagg. There are many of these types that use the very flexible softer material that allow these types put on with a wet film to conform to curved surfaces.

I did not consider that my screen was defective in not being perfectly flat. Didn't realize that was a Minelab guaranteed specification.

Even with a flexible softer material my screen is so domed it would leave wrinkles in the film..
I would expect that all the screens should be flat and it was simply a bad batch released unknowingly..
Would have thought QC would have caught it though..
Seems that some of the defective screens aren't as bad as others..

Unless you noticed the screen immediately upon opening it, maybe YOU let the screen warp by leaving it in your car/truck in the direct sunlight

That's absurd...
Bought it in January..
Besides I would never leave a $2500 machine in my vehicle, always in a huge Garrett padded carrying case, under the backseat only to and from a hunt...
Unless you knew what to look for you would never notice it until you try to install a screen saver on it...
The other thing is the screen could not warp as far as I can tell..
If it did warp there would be a gap between the LCD (that would be obvious) and the outer screen, there isn't..
I've never heard of any screen on any machine warping...
Seems mine isn't the only one like this..
Short and simplle, factory defect..................

I have had mine for less than 5 weeks. Cool weather the entire time, it has not sat in a hot vehicle in direct sunlight.

If the conditions mine has seen caused the issue, then these are much to fragile to take out of the house.

Lol, for sure..

Every company is subject to having a problem now and then..
Not a big deal..

Cripes... after reading this thread, even if my screen isn't warped, domed or un-flat, I'm going to think it is anyway. Minelab should jump in here and offer an explanation. I think perhaps there is more pressure put on the screen to keep it watertight... Nes

I think its something I will be taking up with my seller when I go to get the screws replaced in a week or two ! another thing that isn't that great either . Glad I kept my E.Trac :D

I think 99.9% of the CTX's are just fine.. If you have one that is like mine or diggerdick's it will be very obvious just looking at it.....
I only know of one other besides these 2 that are that noticeable... I like the fact that Minelab has a very good warranty and are known for excellent customer service..

Have used generic cell phone protectors cut to fit and they have worked perfect all 3 times. After many hours in the fresh water they would come loose and I just slapped another on as easy as pie.Never had any water leakage issues either so far
