Iffy target yesterday

fwcrawford

Well-known member
While searching in an area where I found 5 silver dimes in about 20 minutes a few years ago, I got an iffy signal that sounded like something decent from one angle, but very crappy from another angle, I dug where I thought the target was giving the best signal and found this Mercury dime.. I went back over the area and found this piece of aluminum just a few inches away.
That stuff can play havoc just as bad as iron in my opinion.
I have been over this area many times since I found those other coins, yet never hit it from the right angle apparently.
Thanks for looking.

Exactly true. Many of my sites are down to only iffy signal targets. You learn to go slow & investigate each all the way around & dig the ones that have that little bit of extra sound to them. You get a nice surprise often enough to keep going.

Beautiful merc with very little wear!

I increase the recovery speed on my Manticore and the targets stand out individually, hard to pinpoint though

I’ll keep that in mind.., I was using the 800 and usually have recovery set at 4.
Yep…. Pinpointing where to dig was a little tricky on this one too.

This is probably one of the best conditioned ones I have ever found.
Even the reverse is nice and crisp.
Send it to me so I can see the fine details 🤭

fwcrawford, nice save, congrats on the Merc. Was that with the Manticore ? My first silver FTY was a Merc found in the same fashion. Good luck. Mark
