That's a real nice ring you found. I'm still looking for a gold coin. I'm a purist. I want to find one that was used in trade and then lost, like by an old house or store. But I'd take one that way to.

That can always be the next goal. It is a genuine US Mint issued gold coin. I located it with my 2500. It was buried deep in the dirt, not the bark chips or beach sand. It was found in a very old park with lots of 1960s clad. I'll admit I was hoping for a couple silver coins or an IH cent. How are you going to tell if the one you find isn't just a piece off a modern money clip that popped out or was dropped by some crackhead (funny crackhead is not in the sites dictionary) after he stole it from some poor guys coin collection?

I know exactly what your saying, though, and I thought about it for a few minutes. Hopefully there is another one in my future (and yours) someday.

Chris

When I found my first ring with a diamond in it I was pretty happy. It had 5 very tiny diamond chips. Did it qualify as a diamond ring? I said yes. It was a ring and it did contain diamonds. About a month later I found that small engagement ring with a 1/3 carat (approx.) diamond. A much more legitimate diamond ring. It is the only ring I didn't scrap last year. I like this analogy. FYI, the big three as most MD books list them are: A US Silver Dollar, A US Gold Coin, A Diamond Ring.

It looks like I am 1 for 3.........I've found 4 rings with diamonds. BTW, big, small chip; a diamond is a diamond. Like a gold coin. I saw on another forum earlier this year someone found one in a ring.

You found that real nice ring around New Years right? About 3 rows of diamonds. One of my books says the big 3 are a Gold Coin, A Silver Dollar, and a 1 carat diamond ring. I think I'll toss that book. A diamond is a diamond. A gold coin is a gold coin. I DO NOT subscribe to the ring is a ring theory, though. There are rings and there are RINGS!

I am going with any gold and diamond ring as my big 3. But a carat would be good. Yes, I did find my best on New Years 2008. I have found others with smaller diamonds. I'm with you on the ring thing. I started the whole Rosco ring deal. Unless the setting is marked gold or silver, usually they are costume (junk). There are always exceptions to all rules.

That is one of the coolest finds I have ever seen. Congratualtions:clapping:

Here they are automatically evicted if the police are called out three times in any given month. Does you law read like that?

Bill

No. It's a monetary fine here. $250.00 per offense and after 3 offenses they take injunctive action to stop the noise. As I mentioned, in 8 years not one ticket has been written for violating the noise ordinance. It has been helpful in reducing a lot of nuisance noise, though.

There are a ton of illegals in my village all of whom are here with the aid of legal visitors of the same ethnicity. That is what we should make the focus of our efforts to curb illegals. Make the crime providing aid and comfort to illegals. I know both of these things are currently illegal but they are rarely enforced, at least in NY. It is my hope that my neighbors now realize that the more times the police come to visit them, the greater chance that they find something to investigate, or some wrong doing, and that their lives will be easier if they just get along.

Sadly, we have already lost the first battle in this war. The country has been overrun without the firing of a single shot. We now need to return repatriate all illegals, at whatever monetary cost, and repeal the birthright citizenship law. (For anybody who doesn't know, this law went into effect to give babies born to slaves citizenship not to give Mexicans a path to citizenship.) My opinions only.

.......and you know what they say about opinions. They are just like........:ban:well you know......and everyone has one..............

Now back to your great find, that 1/4 Eagle looks to be worth $112 melt value as of today. I'm sure to you, as it would be to me, it is PRICLESS.

Just a suggestion, unless you plan on getting a bezel so you can wear it on your neck I would leave it in the pin back as found. If you get a chance, take the bezel to an antique store (someone who knows old jewelry) and see if they think the bezel is as old as the coin.

I am less and less sure about taking it out of the bezel but I'm still 70/30. I need to have it cleaned ultrasonically. I put the melt value at $112.09.

Now for the bezel. I did a purity test on it and it's 14k. I did two tests and once the pin part tested as 18k but that might have been my mistake. It is not marked but the hallmark may be blocked by the coin. The whole thing weighs 7.28 grams so the bezel weighs 3.3 grams. $57.37 melt.

As a piece of jewelry it is certainly worth at least twice the melt value. I saw them selling on line anywhere from $349.99 to $599.99.

I am having a heck of a time getting a real good photo of it. These are the best so far. You can still see dirt in the stars and elsewhere. The reverse is even dirtier. Also note the scratches through his lip and chin.

On my spreadsheet I have it's value entered as melt but I am the last owner of this coin while I'm alive so that is immaterial. If I remove the coin, I'll scrap the bezel. In the thirty minutes it has taken to write this and take better photos I put the new odds of mutilating this great piece of jewelry at 10:1 against.
