if you are in your 60s how long can you swing your md

When I started detecting in 69, I was a lone hunter as there were hardly any others in my area detecting then that I really cared to hunt with. I hunted that way for years, mostly in the rural, backwoods, isolated areas. Gradually, I met others, and introduced some others to detecting and we formed some lasting friendships. For me, those friendships are the biggest treasure I could have ever found. We pool our resources, research, finds, and concerns for one another and in general just have a great time, not just when hunting together but by staying in touch between hunts. Having hunting buddies is really necessary for everyone now, especially us older dudes, and it is just a whole lot more fun with your buddies. Oh Yeah, for sure, you are right about becoming addicted to detecting and never knowing what to expect to find. Same thing applies to some of the "situations" that sometimes occur while detecting too, Another good reason to have some buddies close at hand. HH, Charlie

Yeah. It does help if you're finding stuff and get that extra rest by having the detector's weight taken off your arm. I also keep a constant watch on my grip pressure because it's easy to start grasping pretty hard and I have to let more of the body move the detector instead of just the arm. Then when I bend over I loosen any pressure on the grip and rest my hand(I never let go of the detector-unless the coin's deep.). I usually go four hours-mainly because that's all the time I have. I'm 64 and use an Ace, Compadre, Tracker IV, or Silver Umax-but not at the same time. When I was able to detect for 5-7 hrs. at a time, I learned to switch between arms. That's quite and experience as you have to relearn when you switch to the unnatural arm.

I'm 65 and usually swing the AT Pro for 3 hours with the stock coil. When I put on the sniper coil it seems light as a feather and I could then go another couple of hours. Thank heaven my knees and back are not a bother, yet.

I'm 66 and can go all day. Hard digging can make things go slower but it does provide a break from the actual swinging itself.

i dont dig deep targets, as i would not last even 2 hours

after using the cleansweep coil if i put the 8 inch coil on, it would seem like a life time to do a big area, also the cleansweep even though its heavy is right on in pinpointing compared with the 8 inch coil.

Mathematically, it seems like you would be doing 4 hrs. detecting in 2 hrs. time with that cleansweep coil. Hmm-m. It could pay for itself?

All day (or 8 to 10 hours) but I'm using a Vaquero or ACE 250 and they're some of the lightest ones out there. If I got something bigger (or as I get older) I'll start to consider "Doc's Swingy Thingy".

My stock coil is a 8.5x11 DD and I wanted a bigger coil, but Garrett said their bigger concentric was not as good for my highly mineralized soil here in the NW. I use the sniper only in tot lots or extremely trashy areas.

i found 15 dollars of coins the other day in a school soccer feild and i hardly made a dent in that field in about 2 and half hours.
i average around 80 dollars a month in coins, i found 90 dollars last month. so it would pay for it self pretty fast.

the XP Deus is as light as a feather it can be swung all day ,lightest machine on the market by far .

Since I got my XP Deus, I can swing all day with no trouble. Best detector I have ever used.

That is my problem. I have to be carefull of my hand.I have bought a harness for my Vaquero which, really helps on level ground. At 63 my condition is good from exercise but, my hand suffers.
If i cover a lot of ground without a target it takes more of a toll. One huge help is my LITTLE EAGLE SHOVEL. Not much kneeling down and, getting back up.

At 65 can still swing my Safari all day if necessary, guess having a complete and totally equipped weight room helps.

Im 65 and I usually don't go much past 3 hours. Its not the swing, but the up and down that wares me out. I can go a lot longer if I wanted to but there is always tomorrow.

I'M 70- can hunt 3-6 hrs depending on the detectors I take (I have 20) some heavy, some not. Other factors include weather, amount of holes I dig, type and condition of the soil, places to pee (bad Prostate), and terrain I am hunting.

I am 67 and do find it difficult to swing my AT Pro for long without changing arms. I read where somebody made a "sling" to use that would take the strain off the arms. I wish I would have saved it. Does anybody out there have any pictures or a good description as to how this is done?

I face away from the road or buildings and pee while metal detecting. Tricky-but can be done. Just have to move detector on one side only.:rofl:
