I thought I would throw this question at you>

I have to dig all my finds also. Maybe I am expecting to much but if I am out almost five hours I kind of expect to find the same amount you found! But not as many quarters....24 or 40 both awesome!!:clapping:

Name of your game maybe...:detecting: Where I hunt it is almost all clad, newer parks...even older parks in my area mainly started in 1930's.

Sure I would love those oldies but, I think 5400 coins and $400 in clad is the name of my game/goal this year! Best of luck in your finds too Jack. Remember some look for clad, some relics, some silver/gold. I think the name of the game is based on where you hunt!

It really was just zincs.

The places I have hunted have been picked over pretty good. Consider myself lucky to find anything worth keeping. Does not have to have a monetary value.

I end up being an opportunist....not too picky. Anything unusual that I think is neat is a good find.

Some look for gold, some for silver, some for clads, some for relics.
Live up to your own standards. You only need to please yourself.

When fishin I don't always catch the "Big Bass". When deer huntin I don't always get the "Big Buck". When MD'in I don't always find the "Gold Ring" or "Silver" but I enjoy huntin for it. If I come home empty handed it don't bother me, I still had fun and thats what counts fer me. Its not always what you find that counts, but the fun of the sport/hobby that counts. If you've had fun, thats what counts.
God Bless

Jack has a good point its always more fun to find older silver coins.I guess some of us aren't searching for the clad.

Wow what type of detector are you using? a quarter machine?:yikes: Great work, my quarter totals way down lately per hunt....Dimes been good though! Again great job of hunting!:super:

My limit is based more on what my back and knees will take, assuming there are enough targets to dig. Even without bending or kneeling to dig targets, after 5 hours max just swinging the coil I'm ready to call it quits. I routinely have 50-coin days. I commonly have 100-coin days, and my "highest coin count" so far is 153 coins. That might sound impressive to some, but consider that 114 of those were memorial cents and my total face-value take was $8.14 including one 1943d Mecury dime. This was at a school complex, where the elementary, middle and high schools are all situated in about a 2-block area.

My personal strategy is to mix up the types of detecting I do. I'll hit one area knowing it's more likely to give up silver (but far fewer coins total) for a while, then I'll spend a day hitting a school or park where I can find more stuff but not as old. Then I'll hit someplace really old where I expect to find very few keepers but the chance of one of them being really old or valuable is higher. This routine keeps me interested and isn't as boring as either never finding much at all or finding a lot that isn't very valuable. I do have to admit to being addicted to finding silver coins, though, and it took a few weeks for me to lock onto my first one.

I'm sure some people inflate their finds in either numbers or value, and I don't care. The only thing I really get out of these posts is ideas on different places to look and techniques for searching or recovery, I couldn't care less if some lucky detectorist finds a gold bar or a bag of silver coins. I'm not wherever they are and probably never will be, so good for them and "whatever" for me. I'm in competition with myself ..... and HEY LOOK, I'm WINNING.

I know what you mean about finding all the pennies! i am trying to have a better ratio of nickels, dimes, quarters to pennies. But I actually feel a little different about other peoples finds, I do care. I think we should wish each other the best in finding things. I use it as a motivator.

I dont have to lie about my finds. I modified my detector so it only finds silver and gold. I average about $600 a day. I'll modify your detector for $1000. Send it to me:Stonewall c/o Indiana State Prison. Thanks

Stonewall,at least you have plenty of time to write.Your probably more honest than some of the guys about their finds. So in the prison yard your finding 600.00 a day thats incredible.I'm sure you'll get a lot of detectors shipped your way for the jail house mod.
