I thought I would throw this question at you>

Have you ever thought some people are not telling the truth about their finds? I notice there are some people, not necessarily in these particular forums but all over that seem to always find a ring! I actually am registered on another forum where someone claimed a miracle showing a photo....another person came back and proved the photo was a copy from the Internet and actually posted the exact photo, I was able to place them side by side and they were exact!!!!!!...the person than said he would remove "because it was causing problems"! < This was a metal detecting forum.....

Well then there are those that find not 50, 100, but hundreds of coins in a day! They do this almost every time they post. Or they post and say they were out a short amount of time, say 30 minutes to an hour and found an outragious amount! Do you believe????

Well what is considered believable to you???? How many coins can be found in lets say 1 hour, 4hours? 8 hours? I usually get tired after 3-4 hours max. I am going to try an all day for the first time in years soon... Also I am not talking about finding a ton of coins in one giant coin spill. How many holes can you dig in an hour?? Just curious to see how people respond:confused:

then thats on them, once a liar always a liar...but as far as the coins being found in a hour that you can't answer cause you don't know were these people are hunting...I once found 10 or 13 coins in one hole about 2 years back...and I had only been out for a short time just before dark. But I post my finds and trash on these boards for all to see. As far as rings go, I have found 5 rings in the 3 years that I have been detecting, thats over one a year and I'm happy about that. Those that live on the oceans and in warm climates are going to find more gold and good stuff in the waters then us up here in "Snow Country". I got the Excalibur for Christmas this past and I have all intentions of hitting some of the beaches and Lake Michigan come this summer. If I find something nice great if I don't it wasn't meant to be but I won't make something up to make my self feel like I'm with the "IN CROWD". For the most part I believe what people say they have found, who is it for me to judge them. And besides I don't really care if people want to make stories up about there finds...just tells me that your life is that pathetic, you have to lie about it...it can't be much of a life in the first place. There is my two cents worth...take it or leave it but don't send me a bill if I have thrown you into counseling!!

If it sounds like BS then just let it slide.

Some guys really do luck into a great spot, but I don't expect it to happen all the time.

I caught a fish THIS BIG yesterday.
Believe it? Could have happened, but it didn't. I just lied to you.

Some people I believe all the time.
some people I believe some of the time.
Some people I believe NEVER...even if I saw it myself!!!

I have found over 200 coin in one day BUT THAT IS HUNTING THE KIDDIE SANDBOX.Digging coins in the dirt my best was about 60 or so coins.
Rings are very hard for me to find but I do find them.
As for faking a find to post on a site.(Why waste the time)
I and most of use metal detect for the FUN of finding stuff.
I could buy a lot of coins for the money I put in my XL PRO,M6,MODDED AMPHIBIAN 2,PRIZM GP3500 and my JETCO Plus all the coils etc and the TRUCK.IF someone has a small mind and want to fake a find Most of us don't.
Keep on detecting if you only find a penny post it and we will enjoy looking at it.My first finds for 2007 was 3 zinc cents and I post that.

 Yes that is what I am talking about...the people who just don't even appear believable....I know have to skip over reading a few posts in one of the forums I visit quite often.

Just by your reply i would not doubt your honesty about your finds. Glad you got yourself an Excalibur, once my DFX pays for itself that is going to be my next toy  I just get tired of reading some posts where people do not even sound believable. Just for digging purposes I tried timing myself in an area that was full of clad. The most I could find timed was 16 coins in 18 minutes separately. In one hole/coin spill I had 16 to 18 coins, but the value was only $1.47 I was just wondering about those that claim 80 coins in an hour, or 300-400 in a short period of time

Agree with what you said, but as I said i have been visiting a lot of forums where there have been some really silly claims or just unbelievable success! :surprised: Like I mentioned some of these fraudulent claims were also uncovered by a few sharp people. I just don't like the bullcrappers and as someone else said I don't want to bother with them. With my new DFX (bought in November) the most I have dug in dirt up to now is 103 coins, which I did post. I plan on having several 100 coin days this year and would like to hit 200 myself in a day. Will make it a goal to hit 150 in a day, then hopefully will get a 200 coin day.

The person who goes out for half an hour hunting and posts a picture with 50-60 coins!

Or the person who claims god sends them a message and they post pictures saying god helped find them. But then get carried away and keep posting like this all the time!

People posting fraudulent/copied pictures from the Internet and getting caught.

Ridiculous claims daily of always having a great day and never getting tired.

Or those that interrupt an interesting post just to post a picture of themselves bragging about finding something not even unusual.

Just thought I would list a few! Sure once in a while these things can and do happen, I also understand it is just to cold to hunt for a lot of people. Even that some forums are made just for making things up. But once you know who these people are it is funny reading their posts once in a while!

its a sad sorta sickness --since the folks that actual live with / around this person normally know their that way they pay thewm no mind---think I'm sure you know a few like that--so they go to the net where they can get the attention they crave.

me too!!! the ones that get to me are the ones who claim they find silver coins ---very regularly!! heck i find silver a couple times a year at best...or the ones who always find seated coins etc etc...better yet i always get a good laugh when it gets to "my toy is better than your toy" challenges...you know..Explorers vs the World.

In the end, I just enjoy the hobby i dont keep "score" as such. In fact i simply enjoy finding something......even clad..

I agree with you. I do not feel like I am in competition with anyone. I have set my own goals and that is all i am trying to do. I do enjoy looking at other peoples finds, and really like the pictures. I just wish those people that are having such great success would take the time to help answer questions!:detecting:

Detector Man, I think you are thinking exactly the same as me! Where I hunt it is mainly clad, so I accept that fact. I have finally found a park where I started pulling Wheaties and a mercury dime. But i know clad is what is going to pay for my detector. I just think the people that are over doing it with the fake stories should cool it! Once I think the person is making things up I don't bother with them any more! I think we should all try to help each other. Funny you mentioned the detector versus detector thing. I have a DFX, ever since I got it all I hear is the XLT owners bashing the DFX.....:stars: But I try not to be so narrow minded and enjoy also posting on the XLT forum because there are enough things the same on these two detectors to learn on either site. And I know some XLT owners are very helpful also.

There's people who make most of their finds on E-Bay and others who as you say just copy pictures. I stopped posting on one major forum as I was seeing my own finds appear within a few months of my selling them.
Latest ploy is the build yourself a reputation by claiming rare/valuable finds regularly when in fact they are of little or no value.
There's also the strange practise of pushing a particular machine or brand as the ultimate detecting tool whilst in fact using something completely different as a main detector.

Wow Brian it is even worse then I thought! Sorry people have taken your finds and pretended they were there own. I think this also serves as a warning be very careful who you buy from! I would never buy if the deal sounds to good or the person has little or no feedback. Now that you mentioned it, also people changing or using two names I heard is going on! They are able to do this in several ways, that i will not talk about, don't want even more doing it!

When you mentioned people bragging about one detector to much and actually possibly having another the one that comes to mind is the Explorer!!<Not to offend explorer users I have talked to users and it is a great machine I am sure. But I am talking about the ones who have to say the Explorer is better than (name your detector) and you know most of them never had your brand or model!

Thanks for the impute Brian, it really got me thinking of even more thinks to watch out for!

Greg, I think that I have only had one 100 coin day in 11 years of detecting. Many times I pull out my finds for the day and I estimate close to 100 coins only to find out that there are only 60 or 70. I guess that some people might make that kind of mistake. I have a bad back and 4 or 5 hours is my limit. Also, I usually get to know my detectors pretty well and I don't dig zincs. Every time I find a shallow Indian head penny, I say "I better start digging those zinc signals" There is an article in a 1999 or so Lost Treasure issue about a middle aged to retirement aged man that found over 221,000 coins in a 15 or so year span. He sometimes found more coins in one month than I find in a year. I don't try to get caught up in some of the wild posts that we sometimes read. As long as I can enjoy this great hobby at my own pace I am content. Just being out in a picture perfect park at sunup swinging a detector makes for a great day!

Yes you made it sound good, my favorite day up to now is not the day I found my most coins or something gold, it was the day I was in a misty park and detecting so slowly (there were a lot of coins in this area :hot: ) that i was surrounded by geese! I guess because I was moving so slow and digging, maybe they thought I was looking for worms too! It was early in the morning and to see that was awesome....I wish someone could have taken a picture of me, I would have really enjoyed that one!<<<And the picture would have been real too! :clapping: But I think you have it right just getting out is what it is all about.

RLOH don't try to get caught up in some of the wild posts that we sometimes read. As long as I can enjoy this great hobby at my own pace I am content. Just being out in a picture perfect park at sunup swinging a detector makes for a great day!

Well said. It is the thrill/pleasure of the hunt, the joy of finding that penny, occasional silver, broken relic! This is a wonderful hobby. That's where I think the perspective needs to be to some...just a enjoyable hobby! No better/worse. We all find that occasional spill, giggle at the fact it's taken a couple hrs., and at work, we make far more an hr! I giggle thinking BATTERY MONEY or a hot cup of coffee yummmy
