Thanks again to everybody.
Judging by my handle of "Critterhunter" you guys probably figured out that I'm a hunter. Well, haven't hunted in about five years, but yes I've taken my share of deer and other animals...But for food, not trophy's. I don't sit around waiting for a big rack and will take the first doe I can get a clean shot on. It's a necessary "evil" as most people don't know it but most of our states had wolves, brown beer, and mountain lions in them at one time, and those are pretty much the only animals that will control deer populations. Coyotes rarely take a deer unless it's usually a young one. So, man must step in and thin the herd, because if we don't the deer will not only starve, but so will many other animals that the deer destroyed their food source. In fact, there are many endangered native plants in America these days due only to deer over population.
But, I agree...At one time in my younger days I shot ground hogs and crows for sport, and nobody eats those. You're allowed to because they can become a destructive force on farms. Still, I don't think I could kill anything these days if I wasn't eating it. Just doesn't seem right to me anymore. And, I agree about the treatment of animals. I hadn't been to a zoo in over 20 years and last year I went to one. After hearing all these "great" things that zoos were said to be doing for animals over the last 20 years I NEVER expected what I saw. Single beers and big cats in individual "living areas" that were about the size MAYBE of a small ranch house. So bored and psychotic were these animals that they just mindlessly and nervously paced back and fourth over and over all day long. That just sickened me! They need to make their living areas MUCH larger, and give them interesting things to play with and hunt for food and treats in some way to fill their day and make it interesting. As it is now these animals aren't living, they are existing. Just not right at all.
And, yea...These days (god forbid!) I actually agree with a few things PETA has to say. For one, leg traps where animals can suffer for days should be illegal. Also, chickens we get eggs from shouldn't be shelved and stacked in little boxes where they can't do anything but sit and lay eggs all day long. They should be free to roam in a large fenced in area outside, and give things to "do" that I guess chickens would find interesting. I don't know, release a few thousand grasshoppers and let them go to town hunting those things down or something. Point is no animal should be caged in a little box. Sure, I've got no problem with eggs, or eating that chicken, but give them some kind of decent life for providing us with substance.
I can't watch those animal cop shows where they hunt down people abusing animals. Just makes me sick to my stomach. Just can't do it.
Anyway, a family member went to the cemetery where Sky is buried today. They asked me to go but I'm just not strong enough. Might not be for months or even a few years. I hear the place is beautiful, though. She's not in a marked grave as I think they mass bury pets together. That's OK, that just means she's got more dogs to play with until we meet again.
