i hate people

hi guys, been a while since i posted or even visited.my wife's uncle is a deacon at a small country church and he gave me permission to hunt the grounds.i was there maybe 2 hours and i had 3 different people stop and ask me what i was doing, which didn't really bother me,i understand curiosity.one guy in particular did manage to rile me.he stops his car and asks me if i lost something.i replied,no i'm looking for stuff other people lost.he says, well you might want to get permission first.i took off my headphones and walked toward his car and asked him,is there something about my appearance that would give you the impression that i don't have enough sense to know that?well er uh,who did you talk to?so i told him and he says, well ok then and made a hasty exit .jerk!

I have had similar experience of people acting aggressive this way towards me while metal detecting, mostly public parks and ball fields are where you get hassle like this.
For reasons unknown some people it seems really hate metal detecting and it can bring the worst out in them if they see you digging. I think people thinking of starting the hobby should
be prepared for upsetting and some times aggressive responses from members of the public. I personally think that these people think you are some sort
of vandal , digging a hole on a public park / field can drive them insane. 90% of people will be ok about it but some people will give you verbal abuse for sure.
Why they need to phone the police for such a petty thing like metal detecting is beyond understanding. Ok having said that i can understand it when hunters
leave the plugs looking pretty badly replaced , i mean if some one did this to your lawn you would be pretty mad , most people would not like there own lawn
looking like a few horses had horse shoe'd the place. I guess we need to understand why the hole needs to be like good "plastic surgery" after the cut.
Here in the uk parks are no go areas now and so are most school fields .
Keep an eye out while cutting plugs in case some one is approaching , if i see some one approaching who looks like he wants to give me verbal while i am down digging then i usually do a quick neat plug replacement and tidy the hole before they get to me, this avoids the chance of them seeing the hole!

Every neighborhood has a JERK and you found yours.

One way to circumvent the police issue is to go to your local police station and offer your metal detection services if they ever need it. Or even training for their officers if they feel they could use that. When someone calls the police on you, and the officer arrives, explain that you have offered your services to them and they have your contact information. Plus, you are providing a valuable public service if they ever need you.
