How Old Is Everyone Here Anyways?

I'm so old I flew airships in the Navy and they disappeared about 55 years ago. Owned 42 detectors over the years. First detector was a Whites "something or other". Got a bunch of titanium in my back that drives me crazy but I refuse to give up.

90...Built my first detector back in the late 50s from plans in a book. It was a BFO and did work, found a few things with it. Coins and "stuff". Have had most every brand of detector on the market. My first commercial detector was a D-Tex, went over to Bill's house in Dallas and bought it. After that I bought Garrett detectors mostly but like I said, have had others too. Only have two now, a CZ-6a and a Garrett AT-Pro. Stayed in all last year taking care of my wife. She got to where she enjoyed detecting too. We especially liked going to the coast, she would hunt the sand and I the water. She passed away last December and I just haven't been out much. Plan to get started again when the weather gets better.

Hey everyone, I am 61 and started metal detecting in 1969. I bought my first detector from Stu of Kellyco fame when he was selling out of his home. Can't think of a better hobby and it's always exciting because you never know what you might find. I've found guns, gold, silver, and everything in between !!!! Have a Merry Christmas !!!!

61 and detecting now since age 18 if I recall. Garretts only and my first coin was found by the Goorsebrook parade grounds. Digaholic ever since. If the knackered knees hold out like to put in at least another 40 years. All the best to all in 2016!

Iv'e been detecting since 1971 and still at it at 74 years old, and still can do 6 hour hunts. I have had almost every brand of detector out there. My favorite detectors today are Teknetics T2 SE with DST, Garrett AT PRO and Whites V3i

62 and started metal detecting 25 yrs ago with a Bounty hunter .

45 years years young and been detecting for about 10 years now. My father was into the hobby before me and had tried to get me to go out with him many times. I finally gave in and we went to an abandoded 1800s ghost town in the woods, nothing but stone walls and cellar holes.( eye candy now! he got a signal and called me over, it was an old Flat button. I had never seen one before. He continued to find artifacts, all the while telling me stories about the Hobby......... 2 weeks later I bought my first detector, a Sovereign Elite. 2 days after receiving it I took it to my local Ball park, which property dates back to 1600s. I dug my first King George there.... Havent looked back since. Not only am I addicted to the Hobby but now I am addicted to History and know much, much more about it than any book in High School ever told me!:detecting:

68 n been detecting since 1976. Have found hundreds of silver coins, many gold n silver rings, civil war bullets, 4 US belt plates, watch fobs, many relics. Now mostly a water hunter with lots of gold jewelry. Love this hobby.

I'm 33 rapidly approaching 34 started in 1993 with a borrowed whites that took 14 batteries! Had to mow lawns and feed livestock all week to get enough money to feed that thing batteries every weekend but I was hooked now I'm married and my wife and both enjoy getting out. Things slowed down a bit after our first baby was born. Hoping to get her involved down the Rd as well.

Well I started detecting as a kid, bought my first detector from Stu of Kellyco fame when he was operating out of his home. I'm 61 now and still enjoy the thrill of the hunt.

66. Been hunting since 1960 Started with radio Shack BFO. Now have an Etrac, Fisher 1266-X, and a Minelab Explorer XS II. Going to be getting an AT pro soon.

Just turned 49. Wow. Next year I really have to grow up.

Or do I?

I will be 56 in April. So I suppose that I fit into this demographic. I like this post as I feel a little better about aging now. I got into this hobby about 5-6 years ago , or more. I was incredibly lucky, or cursed, to find some of the oldest relics in my area fairly quickly. Now If I find a coin from the 20,s-30,s, or an old marble, an old bottle, I am quite delighted. These days checking out side walk grass strips and listening for those deep quiet coins is highly pleasurable, even if it is just a 1928 penny. I was never driven by the lust for gold and I got into water detecting last year for the first time. I was surprised and extremely excited about finding so many rings, so relatively easily. And standing there chest deep in the water and lifting the scoop to see half a Herring bone gold chain dangling from the scoop lip will be forever burned into my memory. How exciting !!! I am into the outdoors and metal detecting bit me hard. I am just a very average skilled detectorist but I find enough fun bits to keep the flame eternally burning. I tend to cherry pick due to degenerative arthritis in my three lower vertebra. So the AT Pro with all of its information is a God send for someone like me. I started with an ACE 250 which stayed rock solid for years until I sold it to a local farm wife for a hundred bucks, wish that I kept it now, lol. And my AT Pro has been maintenance free other than a bad headphone connection, which was dealer replaced.

I started metal detecting when I was 15 or 16 years old. Now 60 and still looking for that Gold coin. Found lots of Gold and Silver Jewelry thru the years.

52, been detecting since i can remember. my first was a whites 5000D coinmaster when i lived in Alaska. then i moved to Hawaii and bought my fisher CZ-20 with a 10" spider coil. Talk about a deep running machine now!
then i moved to South Carolina and bought my garrett AT Gold/Pro

got a bulging disk L4-L5 and the walking is making my back feel a whole lot better

Mels.....Google "Rick Simpson" Read "Running from the Cure". If you can afford it and are not working anymore, get or make yourself some F.E.C.O. (full extract cannabis oil) ingest or vaporize it! Guaranteed to either heal or make your pain go away. I know, I use it every day to keep my bladder cancer at bay. The reason I say "not working anymore" is because on random drug tests you will lose your job. Hope this advice helps you.......NGE

I'm 67 been metal detecting for 25 years. Leave for awhile and come back . Retired in June of 2015. Now I'm back for good.
