How Many were ready to sell their Explorers after using it for a little while?

is a get up and go one, but i am slowly getting used to the choir.

I used a Fisher CZ-5 for many years and was quite content. I got my Explorer SE about two years ago. Now I had heard a lot about Explorers before taking the plunge. They have a large learning curve, are heavy, somewhat noisy, etc... Knowing this going into it is half the battle and I was sure that all the testimonials about its performance couldn't just be fluff. I was expecting to have to relearn most of what I knew about detecting, but was willing to do that to benefit from what I expected to be a high end machine that performed. Summary: I found the learning curve much less daunting than purported and the weight wasn't too much of an issue, but like you BlueRay, the sound was a bit overwhelming. It truly is like learning a second language but I found that I adapted quite quickly. I used the default settings early on and then started to tweak things one thing at a time in an effort to adapt the machine to certain hunting conditions and expectations. I have not been disappointed. I am still learning and still pick away at the different forums trying to glean from the experiences of other more experienced and savvy hunters. All and all, I am quite pleased with the Explorer's performance. I realize that some people never successfully make the transition to an Explorer but that's true of many things in life. Different strokes for different folks. Hang in there BlueRay and best of luck learning the new "language".

The Explorer is not a Sovereign, which is the best turn-on-and-go machine ever made- but still takes a little getting used to. But it is worth the effort.

I bought my SE Pro after seeing some of my buddies in action. When I got mine they helped set mine up with their program and let me sweep my coil over their targets (good, bad, and iffy) several times so I can memorize the sounds. They stressed that I learn how to find and determine the iffy (bouncy signals) as most of the easy targets are long since found. They also showed me how IH cents jump around and sometimes make a triangle on the smart find screen (I have found something like 12 or 13 IH and all of them jumped around like this, I have never found one that stayed in one place). Then I started going out on my own and on my first solo hunt I found 2 or 3 iffy signal silver dimes. The majority of my finds have been on iffy targets, rarely solid hits, I am still learning new things every time I go out. People can learn the SE by themselves, but it is so much easier when you have first hand help to speed the process along.

Oh for the longest time I thought that my detector was nuts as every step I took I would get a full array of sounds, I was still able to find deep coins but it was driving me crazy and killing my battery with it constantly making noises. I finally read somewhere that I should run it in "semi auto" and change the channel in the noise canceling and to remove the coil cover and wash the crud out. LOL
