Mr X WILL get his "rewards". He's a GOOD MAN pure and simple.

Nice eye candy!!! I can say personally, if someone asked me to find a cache on their property but knew up front there wouldn't be a finders fee I would say hell ya, lets go find it. In the back of my mind I would be hoping they threw me a bone or two but he knew up front not to expect anything.
The thrill of the hunt, memories and pics would have made me a happy man. I am guessing the majority of us out there would feel the same way if approached about a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Congrats MR X and thank you for reaching out to BB to share this with us!!!

Wow, hell of a find, I know that feeling when you find something you only sometimes dream about. A few weeks ago, I found over $240.00 in clad on two separate trips, the second was a follow-up to retrieve what I couldn't finish digging from my first trip. The only difference is that I kept all of mine.
I agree with the rest of the gang, he should of gave you something, it would of been the right thing to do. Never the less, AWESOME FIND ANY HOW.
GOOD WORK AND HAPPY HUNTING.

the only greed I see here is the land owner who just got thousands of dollars of old silver recovered for him and did not have the decency to offer anything for his time and efforts.

I don't call it greed to think Mr. X deserves a small reward like 5-10% to recover this massive cache, if he did not find it the land owner may have never got it.

Greed is a powerful thing. I do not know how many houses I have been too where the landowner tells me I can keep whatever I find, and when they see me dig up old coins, instantly greed kicks in and they start thinking I am digging priceless coins from their property (that they never knew were there to begin with) and then they ask for the coins.........AFTER they gave me their word I was free to keep ANYTHING I found. That is pure dishonesty and leaves a bad taste in my mouth when a homeowner does that to me.

Now I know this was NOT the situation here, because it was stated Mr X agreed to do it for free, I am merely giving an example of greedy landowners.

I agree with you. I guess sometimes landowners feel that way. After many months I was finally given approval to hunt over 20 old late 1800's homesteads on about a 19,000 acres ranch. The owner at first felt I was going to find something valuable and not tell him. Have hunted 5 houses and so far have found not a single coin.

I'm with you Goes, a little compensation for finding something so clearly monetary in nature would not have cost the landowner squat, since the caches were found. Afterall, would anyone really expect someone to come in do free landscaping, just because making your house look nice would make him feel good? Finding a ring for someone is way different, in that sentimental value usually outweighs the monetary value and in most cases you can be sure the person doesn't rush to sell the ring after you found it. However, you can be sure the landowner will be cashing in on this find. Whatever happened to people showing gratitude in this country and not just expecting to get something for nothing.

Looks like a case of greed to me...which of the deadly sins does this fall under? My, my. Mr. X deserves reward IMHO.
