:hot: Cache of a Lifetime! :hot: Please be seated and set all beverages aside before reading!:)

Hi guys, I'm new to forum (all forums) looked like a good one to chime in on. HOLY CATS MAN THAT IS COOL COOL COOL. That is a bummer about the reward, but still COOL.

I'm new to detecting also, about two months now. Started with a Bounty Hunter Land Star, got it new for 125.00 (cabelas bargin cave). It took about 2 weeks to decide to upgrade.

X-TERRA 705 now, I like the machine and think I will keep it. I'll hang on to the BH for my girls.

My BIG question is what coil was being used, how deep, and is there any historical significance to the find? I guess that is 3 questions.

Thanks to all for the HELP over the last month or so in choosing and learning the new machine.

Beverages! How 'bout my computer table and computer! Silver value is one thing...key dates and condition... quite another. Oh My!!!!!!!! If he doesn't give this guy something.....let him "know" a rock tumbler is a great way to clean coins. (This runs so contrary to my previous posts!) WOW!!!

I came to read this again and had to reply a second time, because I still can't believe the gall of the home owner,...greed is a powerful thing, and someday this owner will get his due reward for treating Mr. X so selfishly. I am still just appalled someone could be so blantantly selfish. Just amazing :surprised:

I was contacted again by Mr. X and he wanted to convey that he took on this cache hunt with a mutual understanding that there would be no finder's fee, regardless of the outcome. He feels it is no different than someone asking him to hunt for a lost ring in a park. They suspect it's out there somewhere and just can't find it and need some help. He stated sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't, but this time he got very lucky. The whole experience cost him a few bucks for gas and a few hours of his time. He considered it a pretty cheap price to pay for a lifetime of memories, and the satisfaction of finding what he set out to find. If given the chance he would do it all over again and wouldn't change a thing.

Hi Jeff,

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the x705. To answer some of your questions; Historical I don't believe so, as to depth about a foot, and because of that depth and the size of the target the coil size/type wouldn't matter. Even with a six inch coil this type of target will blow your headphones off.

Here's a little experiment I did with the six inch DD HF coil at two thirds sensitivity(20) just to give you a rough idea of how a jar/container of coins react.

I think he did the right thing, seems to me it is still okay to do something for free. He did a good job for the family and for detecting in my books . Job well done Mr. X.

Over the years have given back gold rings( some diamond and some sentimental, 1,000 diamond tennis bracelet and even uncovered a well that no one could find and lost track of the property markers and never accepted anything except a hug or thank you. This situation is completely different and insurance companies pay 10 percent so would expect some compensation...Just a bad situation that leaves me with a bad taste...Whats right is just right and the landowner doesn't deserve his good fortune.

Amazing find! Regardless of the agreement there could have been some compensation. Detecting is not cheap and the time one spends learning it was not respected in this circumstance. But hey, they agreed and the find is still amazing.

It's really nice to know there are still people out there with the love for the hobby and kindness of heart to do what Mr. X has done. Many of you feel he is due a reward of some type, but one never knows, maybe that reward was in the challenge of finding what he set out to find. Also there must be some mental reward! Ever hear "What goes around comes around" I truly believe Mr. X will be rewarded in some fashion sometime in his life or hereafter for his act of kindness.
Never-the-less: CONGRATS on a fantastic recovery Mr. X and what a fine thing you have done for the hobby and your mental well being. :clapping:

THANKS BILL for the coin jar test. I was thinking of running similar tests with a jar of silver ounces and random coins. I also have to agree that finding this cache for no reward is no different than finding a ring for some one at the park or beach, still a bummer though.

Jeff

The coins in the pics are from 2 of the caches?? :yikes: What about the other 4??? :hot:

It's not so much the amount of worth but being able to hold just one coin for a "tangible" link to the memory! The whole agreement thing isn't lost on us...just the...?
An incredible find, neat story...and 90% satisfying is all! Mr. X,Job well done!

Yes the pix are from two of the six, I don't have pix of the other four.

that is a bull$&*% story in a half wow grow up[/quot

Explain what you mean by bull or growing up. There is no question in my mind that Bill reported exactly what was reported to him..

I think ringking meant it is bull --- because the home owner did not at least offer Mr X some reward for all his time and efforts for recovering several thousands of silver for him.

No, unfortunately that's not what he meant. Look at his 1st e-trac post in classifieds. He called Tony (Orlando, fl) a "loser Mexican and pedophile) his days are numbered on here. He's a trouble maker.

AHEM......Roscue2. We sure don't need that type. Bunch of fine people here..hence it's name. TomB
