Hello from Indiana!

Hi everyone! I've been registered a couple months but mostly been a "lurker".. Just wanted to finally introduce myself and say hi. I'm currently swinging a fisher f70 which I love, but hoping to get a XP Deus soon. I love detecting farm fields where old houses once stood, but I've been known to hit a park now and then too :) HH to all!!

Welcome from a neighbor in Ohio. You have a good machine in the F70 and looking at another good machine in the Deus. I am in the NW corner of Ohio we may not be that far away. Have a cottage on Hamilton Lake in Indiana.

Thanks! I'm just northeast of Indianapolis, about 45-60 mins from OH border. Can't wait for this snow and cold weather to leave us!!

Hello Brothers!

I'm in West MI up by MKG..just a few hours from either of you....I also swing a F70 and love it, I have the 11"dd and hunt soft settings in DP tones going on 5yrs now...I hunt Indiana a bit...generally passing through on business...I'm a clad stabber/jewelry hunter, parks and schoolyards and totlots and whatnot..just my 70 rig and a screwdriver for a tool, no pinpointer or knee pads even...

Heres an Haul on my last run through back on December 13th...I did a post on the Fisher thread, titled 'Field of Dreams' ...@10hrs total hunting time...

Wow Mudpuppy!!!! Just read that thread...very impressive! Love the Franklin you found..congrats! That was all in Indiana?

Thanks guys..yep Jsteel, all from Indiana....You can see these were not fresh drops, maybe a few dollars of this haul were clean enough to spend...You both know that Indiana/Ohio clay? When its dry, its like concrete, impossible to dig a great amount this fast...and when its wet, it sticks to be damned to a 'shovel' type tool, making it too much effort for the value, a muddy mess...A screwdriver is the only tool for this fast clad work in the wet clay!

I think somebody sweeps up the fresh drops at these locations, but cant or wont go after anything sub surface on account of the trouble and mess they would make...plus the deep summer grass of course, seems theres a ONLY a few really great weeks/yr to work it, perhaps only 3 PERFECT days in a whole year to ransack mega clad in the OH/IN clay belt to this magnitude, Early Spring, and Late Fall, cold windy drizzly and overcast days, flat grass, nobody else around, no kids or school, druggies are all otherwise engaged etc...the rest of the year, its protected by the deep grass, hard dirt, too many people, summer heat and bugs...

If either of you ever get up this way, we have a nice soft sandy loam, and some great big beaches that the F70 is killer on! In fact, hunting a beach at night completely dark using DP tones, a guy can flat fly!...Heres a big 14k chain I got with the 70 on a West MI beach my first year out with it...I have also been very interested in the Deus, I like really fast recovery rigs..I just dont know...I'd have to hold one and try it out to see if its got something that would make the 70 obsolete... .

I know that clay all too well :) I dread the days my wife asks me to help her dig holes in the yard for plants bushes, etc. with all that clay!
