Has our beloved Deus been made obsolete????

Will be interesting to see how much the Equinox cuts into the Deus market share, and what XP's response will be. A new single/multi frequency coil that can be pared to the current controller with a V5 update? Or maybe an all-new machine?

An old thread but worth resurrecting.
Personally I think the Nox has obsoleted the Deus for my use.
Running them h2h in 7bar soil on the Deus mineral scale, using LF coil, the Nox just see's through the ground better, and the quality of the audio it returns in this soil is much better than the Deus, especially on hammered coins on edge at depth, or items reading 10 or under on the Nox.
I don't think the v5.2 does the LF coils any favours, it feels less powerful, and the GB sensitivity feature is of no benefit, it actually feels like it has detuned the ground sensitivity out to help keep the machine quietier, and there seems to be more emphasis put on not GB'ing the unit, but in 7+bar soil that's not an option unless you just want to skim for surface finds.
It seems it's morphed into a gold machine, higher freqs and hf coils, scratchy one way signals and poor depth on mineralised pastures.

I have spent about 4 weeks now testing another detector and personally think the Deus has far more to offer in terms of weight, economics, signal clarity, user feedback, features and technology.
In fact I fail to see what all the fuss is about, yes it's an improvement compared to other midels they gave released in the past, but I don't feel it is in the Dry.league.

These type of posts are pretty pointless to be honest. Two good machines in their own right, which one would find more targets than the other........that is the question that needs to be answered in real detecting conditions.
Most of the top machines would find the same amount of targets under real world conditions and frankly some of the comparison tests that you see on the net showing one machine totally outperforming another are either owner bias or complete bull. Both of the mentioned machines have been over hyped in my humble opinion, particularly by those who have something to gain by doing so.

HI,
I like topics like this. Learning what newer detectors can and can't do takes time to realize and with these two will probably never end. They are that good.
After a year and a half with the Nox 800 and roughly the same time with the Deus and now the new ORX I have to say that I use them both and they compliment each other very well. Instead of competing with each other they make working a site lots of fun and I know I have cleaned up a relic or prospecting site down to about 13" when I use them together. First, I have never had the pleasure of using either of them in mild dirt. In moderate to highly mineralized magnetic soil the Nox will still go really deep with very accurate numerical target IDs which for coin and jewelry hunting, relic hunting and gold prospecting is a big plus. The ORX is no slouch in mineralized soil either. The tones say it all. The numerical target IDs tend to all head up towards 99 or give no number on deeper targets that the Nox will identify reasonably well, so after about 6" my ORX becomes a beep and dig detector. But those "beeps say way more than the Nox beeps." If I'm in lots of nails, need a break from swinging heavier detectors when prospecting or relic hunting, need to get into really tight places or I want to recheck for small surface to 6" targets that I might have missed, there is nothing better than the ORX/Deus with the HF coils. I still prefer the Nox for really trashy (aluminum) park hunting. The numerical target IDs and depth are really enhanced by the multi IQ technology. When I want a rewarding challenge I leave the Nox at home and grab the ORX for some real fun and always come back with some great surprise finds no matter where I'm detecting. Good targets sound incredible on the Deus/Orx!
