Has our beloved Deus been made obsolete????

had it for a month, i am not a relic hunter. it didn't make me go wow and after using every high end detector it has to have a wow factor to grab my attention and 800 didn't do that for me and i doubt i need buy any new detector now unless there is new tech and i don't mean another VLF.

but not saying it is no good just sharing what works for me, others may like it and that's fine

so like i said etrac / Deus combo covers 90% of my detecting.

" Has our beloved Deus been made obsolete???? "

Highly unlikely !

For me personally, no. I can see where the Equinox might make some detectors obsolete in the minds of some folks for their hunting needs because after I bought the Deus it actually made a couple of my other detectors that I used obsolete for my hunting. For the type of hunting I do though the Deus is damn near perfect.

its lightness and modular design means it will rule for years yet .it cant get any lighter and that suits older guys who want featherweight machines so they can keep going longer in the field

Plus it's far more "tunable" with more adjustments and a higher resolution VDI scale.

It still out does the NOX in thick iron with its single freq....

In my admittedly limited experience so far with the 800, multi frequency isn't showing me much. But, I don't do beaches and have very limited relic hunting opportunities, mostly just parks.

I have spent about 4 weeks now testing another detector and personally think the Deus has far more to offer in terms of weight, economics, signal clarity, user feedback, features and technology.
In fact I fail to see what all the fuss is about, yes it's an improvement compared to other midels they gave released in the past, but I don't feel it is in the Dry.league.

Deus for me is was a perfect machine with the lightweight rechargeable and great depth for coin hunting I've really been doing well with silver cant complain with that..
Why fix whats not broke I will always have my deus..

I go back and forth on this subject, try that other machine or get an HF coil for my Deus. The reviews on that other machine seem to be pretty darn good for sure.

For me so far.... Having used the XP for several years now, I really appreciate the system that is Deus. I feel it offer the best scalpel-like capabilities as well as a truly big-hammer when conditions call for it. The feedback in the field is awesome. The adjust-ability excels. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Deus in the woods, around cellar holes and in farm fields and the like. I can detect for hours and hours with it.

At the same time I did buy a NOX 600. Have had it in the field a few times. It's a nice smooth running machine. The audio feedback is subdued compared to Deus. Think faster but still Minelab-like.

So far my best test of the NOX was on the ocean saltwater beach here in Maine. It is (in my mind) better-suited for that particular job. It is very well behaved and VERY hot in that environment. If you view NH beach metaldetecting on Youtube you will see the type of saltwater environment I also detect in. Unfortunately I haven't had nearly as much success with the Deus on the mineralized beach.

I'm totally keeping my Deus but having it be truly stable and truly deep at the beach would be icing on the cake.

Hey there, I wanted to let everyone know (as a side note to my previous post) that my XP Deus Saltwater experience thus far has all been using LF only. I recently purchased an HF coil (mostly for working the nail beds) and will definitely be testing it out in the saltwater environment. Cheers!

IMO, introducing the HF coils was a home run for XP. Not sure they are actually deeper, but their being so quiet certainly makes it seem so. It seems to me that depth loss claims for SF machines is more a function of the manufacturer. The deus has so many adjustments you can make to "grab" more depth for the higher conductivity targets if you choose to run at a higher frequency. I appreciate that this machine can really go deep, however I think that depth is a bit overrated. I believe like Dan Dankowski that most good finds especially in modern trash are still there because they are masked and you have two choices, use the machine that separates best, or remove the junk first. HH

As you know I have been testing it too. I thought at first the multi freq was gonna have a (BIG) advantage but it turns out its only a small one if that and it can be debated if it has any over the Deus.... .(in certain limited situations.) The hf coils level that playing field on small mid to low conducters in iron though. I have been using it along side the deus in iron and the deus is still king in that area. IMO Plus the other one makes my shoulder hurt after swinging it for a long hunt.

You are a master with the Deus and it meshes with you. First hand proof from the videos and finds you make with it. You just kill it with a Deus in your hand.

I had doubts the Nox would surpass the Deus in your hands due to the fact you have been using the Deus for a long time. You have your set ups/programs and your ears are tuned to it.

Others though, may see a bigger jump in performance using the Nox over the Deus (especially on salt water beaches). The Nox tones/set up may be easier for them to learn and it may mesh better.

The relic hunting you do and how you become one with that unit.....Deus with HF coil all the way.

Still glad to see you comparing and testing though. Always interesting.
