Guess the GOLD at Ganes Cr, AK. Contest

Hi Gerry,

My father just returned from Moore Creek with the following report. 47 nuggets found weighing a total of 18.48 oz. But a whole lot of that was in a 6.63 oz nugget found by Paul from Bethel. Way to go Paul!

It is getting pretty predictable. People who have over 100 hours of detecting experience and who detect regularly have a HUGE edge. They generally find gold daily. Those who are new to detecting or who only do it a couple times a year are lucky to find any nuggets in a week. In general the early weeks do well as they have the most experienced detectorists with results dropping off later as you get more and more novices.

We have made big improvements to the facilities and have started using our bulldozer and new excavator to help make finding gold easier.

Hopefully we will see some photos soon. I'm headed back to the mine Friday and will not be back until the 25th.

My guess today will be 2nd week @ 16.3 ounces

This photo is of me holding a specimen rock that I found with Gerry McMullen, and a whole crew of really nice folks on a outing we had this spring down in nevada. Gerry took the photo.

I just had the rock assayed by method of a specific gravity test.

The total gold weight in the rock is 1.65 ounces. or 51.5 grams of gold.

The rock itself weighs 8.5 ounces.
:beers:Great fun...Great group of guys!! Thanks for the fun Gerry.[attachment 59780 Specimen3.jpg]

Hi All,

I'm feeling a little pessimistic so I'll guess 1st week and 9.10 oz.
Hope you do better.
Most of these nuggets are from Rye Patch.

Wedn. guess will be 19.8 oz in Week 2.

Yeah Marc,
Thats because you had just gotten bitten by the bug!!!
The gold-bug2 that is.
That picture was taken right after you found that nice little nugget.
You were not about to leave that spot you were in.
I remember seeing you franticly looking for another one.:super:
I would have been doing the exact same thing.
Cheers :beers:

Second week 14.9 ounces

This photo is of some gold that I crushed out of some small specimen pieces I found with my Bug-2.
I used a Keene cast iron mortar and pestle. To my amazement it worked pretty good. I was able to keep some larger pieces in tack, while still removing the rock.

Hi Gerry, I'm enjoying the pics here.
My guess is 19.9, week 1

Pic of my best from the Sierra Nevada. Thought I had an ozer when I found it, but not quite. Still looking for that one.

My guess for today will be for week one 19.2 oz's Heres my picture, my uncle found this while detecting, its an 1833 Calf. Malitia buckle, half of one anyway, had another half, just like this one, with a S hook in between the two halves. Grubstake

Today's guess: 18.7 ounces, week 1.

The photo is my 2 ounce Ganes nugget, in the hole it came from.

Week number 2 with 6.3 oz
This is a photo of Sarah at Ganes Creek 2 years ago. She's really trying to pull that big nugget out.

You might say we are getting serious and title the photo....
"I know there is gold in this hole...hand me that Minelab will ya?"

I guess 17.0 ounces in week two. Good luck to all 24 of you. Check that 25 of you...you too Gerry!

[attachment 59929 ganes.jpg]Week 1 6.7 oz
This is my last guess, we're off early for Anchorage. Staying 2 nights there.
Here's a photo of the BIG operation at Ganes taken 2 years ago. EVERYONE needs equipment like this. Good luck to all of us.

Week 2 (9.4 ounces)

After dad and I watched this nugget dug from about 17 inches of Nevada dirt, well out of gold-bug2 range.
We decided to buy GP-3000's. It was a huge selling point to us.
These pictures are posted on www.gerrysdetectors.com
If you haven't visited Gerry's web-site, I advise you too.
Although I have found several ounces with my bug-2.
There is nothing like "pulse-induction".
Cheers Gerry, thanks for another fun contest.:clapping:

These are photos that Gerry took of Dick in Colorado. It was so much fun watching him dig this nugget.
You can read his testimonial on Gerry's website.
Happy hunting in Ganes!!!

My guess for first week is 14.3 troy oz and 19.6 troy oz for the second week.
The photo I'm submitting is of a Chinese coin I found while detecting in an old placer field worked by the Chinese after they had completed the Transcontinental Railroad in 1869.

My next guess: 18.77 ounces week 2.

Picture is sunrise at Rye Patch. Found a nugget right as the sun cleared the horizon that day.
