Guess the GOLD at Ganes Cr, AK. Contest

Gerry in Idaho

New member
I will be leaving for Ganes Creek, AK. in less than a week.

I will have 12 clients with me on week #1 and another 12 with me on week #2.

If you can guess which week (#1 or #2) will find the most total wt of gold and be the closest to the total of that week, you will win a FREE 18 pack Topo CD-ROM by National Geographic

[attachment 59430 rim001582.jpg]Hi Gerry
OK,I`m pretty sure week 2 is going to beat week 1 because you have reaquainted yourself with Ganes by then...:twodetecting: eyeballed that magical dozer push:crylol:and then set those detectorists in the right direction:wiggle:I`ve seen you do it!
MY guess is week 2 and a total of 16.8 ounces of the goodstufff!I would guess 6.5 ouncer will be the big one:yikes:

My picture is of some decent finds I`ve made in the last couple of years and here`s the odd part...every one of these items I`ve found while detecting within EYESHOT of you:clap:
:clapping:Hey buddy you give me goodluck or somethin:clapping::wiggle:

Cheers and Best of Luck up There!Wish I could Be There Again!

Marc

Week one will get a total of 14.7 oz's Heres my picture, of my uncles nugget found on my patch, just fifty feet from where Shep found a 3 ozer, the week before, my uncles weighs 5 oz's 3 DWT. Thanks Grubstake

I will go with the 2nd week and guess a little high 22.6 ounces.
Someone is going to find a big one.
And my guess will be that its with the X-terra.
Lucky dogs!!! No fair.[attachment 59520 Chris31stbday015.jpg]

I will see your group #2 at McGrath on Sat, and hope to see a lot of Gold ! But please leave some for week #3 Thanks --Jack

Ok my guess for today will be the secound week, will total 9.8 oz's Heres my picture, Rob Allison came out to my place and hunted my patches for 3.5 days and heres the gold he got from them. Not bad for an AZ. boy. Grubstake

I will take a guess at the gold find. I say it will be the first week and it will be 22.3 troy Oz. Now it will be less than Dug is showing our group in the attached photo

Jack

I would love to spend a couple more weeks at Ganes Creek but: It is the getting there. For me it is a flight to Seattle, WA, then a flight to Anchorage, AK, overnight at Anchorage and a flight to McGrath, them Mike of Redlines airlines gives you a bumpy ride in the rain to Ganes Creek. After the gold hunt is over you have the same 5 flights back. I told Doug Clark that people would come more often if he would move his operation to somewhere more convenient, say just north of Sacramento, CA.

Doug said he did not think he could do that. Said just to get his backhoe in it took like 21 flights of a C130 at $9,000 a flight. Then he had to assemble it. He just does not want to move his equipment.

You can go back in this forum's history and read the problem that Doc and others had getting to Ganes Creek in August of 2004.

Well, remember it is not so much the money, or the bugs, or trying to keep your metal detector dry in the rain, or the pain in your feet from walking on the cobbles, or the rest of the work in finding the gold. It is the trip in and out that stops me.

Ganes Creek is a special place isn't it!

The attached photo is one taken by Harry Gary in 2004 of the runway at Ganes creek.

Its still be best place I know to Find Gold, and Big Ones at that-and all that hard stuff it takes to get there, makes those gold nuggets that more special-------Take care John-------Jack

Great Idea!

Is Doug accepting any bookings for next season? Rumors of a sale are rife and so I'm a wondering. I was scared enough I'd never get another chance to visit the place that I booked for August 12th of this sumer.

I'm sticking to the second week.
This guess will be 17.8 ounces.

My father is not real computer savy, so I thought I would post a couple of nuggets he found.
These nuggets are not real big. However I know they would bring a few times spot price. They just dont get much prettier, unique, or have more character than these ones do.
Rye-patch at its best

Way to go Pop's

I believe Rye patch still has enough gold to make everyone viewing these photos Very Wealthy.
Gus-

Tuesday guess will be Week 1 with 18.23 oz.

As far as the photo goes, this is the gold Spencer and I found in a small pocket of gold we found in Humbolt Co. Ugly gold, but it still wieghs the same.[attachment 59699 VeinGold.jpg]

[attachment 59752 Nugget1.jpg]Week # 1 8.4 oz ( my week is going to win) !!

My photo is of the .38 oz nugget I found at Ganes Creek 2 years ago.

My guess for today is the second week total: 15.3 oz's Heres my picture, I found all theses nuggets in one day at my patch in Mariposa. Grubstake

Steve, Good to hear from you again. I am heading your way in 3 days and running around trying to make sure I have everything in order for my groups. Doug has not mentioned anything for next year but I will bring it up to him and find out for sure.

This is one of my work/vacation trips combined and I try to make sure everyone enjoys themselves as a group and not individuals.

If he does have it again next year, I'll be sure and let you know ASAP. I'll be booking both Group #1 and #2 again and will continue until the people quit having fun or he sells.

I started booking trips to England now and will be taking groups there each year as well. The cost is less than the Alaska trips and the Ancient Artifacts/Coins Finds definitely come more often.

Your groups should be kicking off right now aren't they?

Keep in touch.

My next guess:

Second week, 14.14 ounces.

Photo is of the dredge at Ganes Creek.

Its always struck me how those dam beavers have raised up that 200,000 (300,000? 100,000?) dredge about two feet. A bunch of buck toothed rodents and they've raised that enormous object.

My guess for today will be 12.1 in the first week. Grubstake
My picture is a specimen that weighs 9.5 oz's its being sliced, as SG. shows 8.5 DWT of gold in it.
