Filter choice

I was wondering which filters you use most of the time? Just to get an idea what most of us are using.

FILTER, YOUR LOCATON, YOUR DETECTOR (V3i or VX3)

5 B or 5H, NE Illinois, V3i

I've tried 'em all.....5.0 & 7.5 dirt huntin' for deep targets.....10.0 & 12.5 dry sand beach huntin' and totlots, etc......hunt w/v3i...mostly light/moderate soil texas gulf coast.....soil is very forgiving here.....interesting topic....thanks for postin'!!

Guys the idea was to tell us your location so we could see what filters were being used but in what part of the country.

In the past we tried to get guys to put their location in their signature if not indicated in their name. The reason to help with answers. If guys see you are in their area they will offer advice for that area.

The soil here is a moderate with iron minerals but a lot of copper nuggets from tiny to large 50 to 100 grams of weight. I use 10high very quite, 7.5high at the most, but I found out that 5 filter also can work if you are going slow and investigating the targets. My location, Cyprus. V3i. Emi is not a big problem here.

5 Oregon V3i

I've been using the 5 in southern ky. but may experiment with the 12.5 just to see what difference there may be. VX3

I use 5.0 BP 50% of the time and 7.5 BP the other 50% here in New Mexico w/mixed soils leading toward high mineralization. I use the "Vision" using a correlate program 80% of the time and switch back to Coins & Jewelry.

When I first started using my Vision (Spectra V3), I was using just the factory defaults both of 10.0 & 12.5 filters. You gotta slow down to seek out the deep ones!

Interesting topic you started,Good Luck.

Terre Haute,In. I Use 5 filter all the time.I have tried others but saw no better performance with ground that DC phases about -86 to-93 with lots of iron in it. Yazoo

Eastern Missouri, V3i - I use 5B or 5H, ground reads -86 to -94 with lots of iron. I was testing just this morning and 5H was best.

Example:

In one of my test gardens- Coins have been buried over five years. This morning - with clad dime, using D2 coil in 3 freq. mode:

At 9" or less I got a solid hit every pass, at 10" solid hit 8 of 10 passes, at 11" it becomes unreliable

Ground reading (Phase -93, Strength 7.4%, 7.3%, 7.3%) Settings RX 13, AM 85, Disc 92, but almost as good with RX as low as 9/10 & Disc 85-89

Add about an inch or so for a clad quarter.....meaning good hits at 11"

Very nice information, thanks.

Howdy--

I'm in the Permian Basin in West Texas.

At urban vacant lots, 7.5 BP usually does the trick. My most frequent adjustments at these sights, depending on ground conditions, are: Sensitivities, Discrimination, and Recovery Delay. EMI is usually what dictates a change in filters.

Happy Hunting!

HI my name is Dave, new member but purchased a v3i Oct. of 2012 this forum has been a big help. I have been running 5 high here in central Ca. just tried hi-pro program in stereo mixed and really liked it. still got a lot to learn about this great machine.

5 band most of the time here in West Michigan. Unless your in black beach sand along the lakeshore, then i bump it up to 7.5. Runs more stable. Ground probe in these parts runs -89, -93 with low mineralization.
