Do any of you all own both a legend and equinox?

I have 2 Nox 800's and a legend. I bought the legend to compare how another company would incorporate the multi frequency system into their machine. I have compared both machines while beach hunting and both are consistent winners. The last outing was in Aruba where I've had excellent results but it rained almost every day which is not usual for there, I found that the black settings buttons could not be used properly (I also have a control box cover with a clear face) which collected the rain drops and made it impossible to see. I highly recommend using a white marker to highlight the buttons. As a hunter I am not a big button pusher, I run my machine pretty much open and usually only change the sensitivity and volume if needed, just my style. My opinion is that the Legend and the Equinox are by far the best machines on the market, and the decision of if one is better than the other is strictly the opinion of the user. The Legend is a great addition to the hobby and should always be considered when opting to purchase a machine. I can honestly say that the Legend on a beach found a dime at 17 inches, hitting harder than the equinox. On gold and silver jewelry, I have found both machines perform almost equally. As far as in the water (salt and fresh) I have found little difference in their performance. Build quality goes to the Legend. In my humble opinion, I have learned over the years of hunting, the user has to learn to trust his machine. The hunter is never smarter than his machine. If that were the case, he wouldn't need a detector in the first place. Learn the machine, trust it, and try to become one with it. Sometimes it whispers little things others might miss. To me, both machines are winners.

Not trying to make this a legend vs equinox thing which is better, as some automatically jump to but rather understanding each one more.
As ive said both are good, every detector has its pros and cons each being good in different situations.
The main thing that sets these two apart is just price, everything else being relatively close.to say either is far superior in performance and features is a stretch. One might do a bit better in a certain situation, place, etc but overall other than price are pretty close from everything ive read and seen.
Every detector even a inexpensive bounty hunter can be fruitful if you use it right.
I was merely trying to wrap my head around the logic of why ML would just add another frequency only
1khz difference. Either you use smf mode which uses a combination of many frequencies or choose a single frequency and it’s usually a choice spread out like ,5,10,15,20,40 depending what you are doing with it.
Reminds me of currency as we always had $1,$5,$10,$20,$50,$100 bills which worked great, then they come out with a $2 bill which had no feasible use. If it did we would still have it and probably added a $3, and $4 bill as well. Again the sensible logic of having two so close together you are either going to stick with one or the other rather than playing around with both. Some probably will though.
So then why not just give us the option to choose any frequency between 1khz and 100khz.
I can tell you why because its not feasible to split hairs like that.
The difference in results between say 15khz and 16khz is negligible.
I would guess it was more for marketing than improving the finds of deep silver coins.

This is one persons thoughts on Multifrequencies.
Again i get it.and it is correct which makes the decision to add a frequency just one 1khz apart not make any sense.
A combination of low and high frequencies.
Like M1 might be a combination of 4 and 15khz and M2 a combination of 10 and 20khz. M3 15 and 40khz and so on
If they came out and said on M1 will be 4 and 15khz , M2 will be 5 and 15 or 4 and 5khz you would be like hold on, that is kind of a waste to have two so close together.
If you stretched out that slinky like on the video and on one end you looked at two rings right next to each other do you think one ring is going to see the coin and the ring right next to it will miss it?
I can see the rings on opposite ends with a big difference in gaps, one seeing and one not but the distance between two right next to each other is really splitting hairs.
If you had to drill a hole to look through would you buy two bits one a 1/2 inch and another 5/8, maybe thats a better analogy

As for highlighting the buttons i found that a oil based paint pen works well.
Had to touch it up couple times but i think better than a cover with markings

Actually this is the latest one
the markers I sent you a link to were not oil based and I have not had to touch them up at all I have had my buttons done since receiving my Legend and other then changing the initial color I went with I have had no issues with the paint wearing off at all on my Legend or my wife's Legend

Im sure they are both good, the oil base I would think would still hold up better either way
Depends what you use to clean it
The other is alcohol or water based based so if you use an alcohol wipe or Clorox wipe I would think it may rub off easier
They were the same price for the paint pens the guy at the hobby store recommended the oil base so I figured i give it a try couldn’t hurt

Much deeper than 5khz?
So why didn’t they just use 4 instead of 5 in the first place if that is the case?
I suppose that is more confusing
I can tell you from my own personal experience from using the Xterra 705 which is a Mine Lab detector, and is a multi frequency detector of sorts all be it, it would only run one frequency at a time which you changed frequencies by changing the coil it would run 3 KHz, 7.5 KHz, and 18.75 KHz the deepest frequency on the 705 was the 3 KHz for silver's or high conductors

I wish Nokta/Macro would give us a update and incorporate 3 KHz into the Legend, I do not understand why Mine Lab did not put 3 KHz in the Equinox 800, unless it just was not a good match with the other frequencies, really do not know, the Xterra 705 running the 3 KHz was one deadly combination and again the deepest of all three frequencies on high conductors especially if you used the Digger coil, which was named after Randy Horton who went by Digger on the forums, if anyone wants a good read go to mine lab site and download and print out his book on the Xterra Line name of book is (Understanding Your Xterra) that book was a wealth of knowledge, which helped me to learn all the ends and outs of the 705, it did not pertain to just the Xterra 705 but to all Xterra's 305, 505, and 705

again I wish Nokta/Macro would incorporate the 3 KHz into the Legend some how

well you would assume wrong.

So not that the lower frequency doesn’t go deeper but rather my point would be that it would be equivalent to ML offering a coil for the xterra in 3khz and then they come out with another one at 2khz
Would you buy the one at 2khz if you already have the 3khz
Why bother for 1 khz difference
I can see if you have a 7khz and then you get a 3khz but to go from 3 to 2 is not feasible imo
So with the nox going from 5khz and adding a 4khz is it really going to be a big difference

NM going and adding 3khz when already have a5 khz seems to be a bit of a waste but its still better than from from 5 to 4khz
Again then just cone up with being able to choose whatever frequency we want to choose, from the whole range of say 3khz to 60khz
That would actually be a great feature to add. Having smf from 1khz to 100khz or choosing a single frequency from that whole range
And if you think its too much and a waste to be able to choose single frequencies just 1 khz apart then you get my point

I had the nox 800 for 3 years, then sold it and bought the legend. I'm now on the list for the manicore. The Nox was a great machine in a way I wish I had not sold it. the legend is OK, but my old mind still thinks it is a nox as I fool with the settings, then again I also have the Deus 1 and have probably found more with it than the other machines.

Thanks Bob , do you think it has anything to do with just what you were used to and comfortable with as that is usually what makes someone successful with a detector or have you really noticed a big difference

I think he was posting that for me. Lol

Carl Moreland a designer has stated the eqx only runs two frequencies at a time. It is weighted differently depending on the program you choose. He said if you tried to run more you would have to much ground noise. A third frequency or component was at 2.6 kHz for ground reference. A lot of marketing going on.

The legend which does smf as well is supposed to run two frequencies at a time in smf. Apparently it chooses two of the 5 available 4,10,15,20,40khz in single frequency mode.
ML users and ML says although the equinox runs on 5 frequencies as well 5,10,15,20,40khz in single frequency mode it uses frequencies from 1khz all the way100khz the full spectrum in smf.
I think that is just marketing bs but i could be wrong

One day some one will come out with something different hopefully, this multi frequency thing has been here 20 years now. The new noxe's 700 and 900 will be just more bells and whistles mostly.
I owned a a nox 800 the depth same as a LEGEND in my opinion. Audio was much better on nox . Minelabs Audio Is for sure my favourite. Nice on the ears , smooth. Pure. The laws of physics
are holding back any depth improvements and that will remain for ever. I am a firm believer that most of the lost coinage is too far down for what we get , which is just 6 or 7 inches on a good day.

If so how do they compare? I have a nox but want to try a legend. The build quality seems better to me. And I want to dunk one and not worry about it. Lol
I own equinox 800 and Legend. More of a learning curve with the Legend but got it down now. Legend has fixed Minelab weak ears on coil, shaft wobble and wireless phones are much easier to pair. Love the coil light, the vibrate and more stable near electric interference. I have owned the ctx3030, Etrac, Excalibur and the equinox 600 and 800. I would never left Minelab if they fixed the coil and wobble problems. They have a great warranty for three years but who wants to keep sending it back. Also a weak arm cuff and some have had leakage problems. Happy with Legend so far and price can’t be beat.

Hard to beat the excal on the beach but thats more if you are into beach hunting full time. For an all purpose detector ditto on what you said.

Still got the excalibur,, got Tony Eisenhower headphones on it, use it at the beach some still. Got use to wireless headphones on Nox and Legend and less weight. I hit the beach almost daily, too many toys.
