Dirt Fishin America New England Thread

Awesome trip for you guys - so glad that you had the gracious hosts that you did to share all of this great history with you! Can't wait for the vid

Updates. may 6-7 in philly with Frank and drew from detect America. Then off to hunt with Dave Wise and Todd Hiltz and fast Frank at some cellar holes! we got to see some great copper come out including a CT copper, LC and a sweet brass shoe buckle! WHAT A HUNT! And then Collective finds from may 10th. Todd killed it with two reales and two LC's. TJ pulled a draped bust 1/2 cent! I got a busted shoe buckle :/ May 11th we headed out to RI to hunt with Bill and Howard. We changed it up a bit and hit a bottle dump. GREAT TIME!

Eh... It was a pretty good day... I guess... ;) three large cents, a king george, a two cent, a half cent, bust dime, bust half dime, 1747 one reale, walker and some modern silver. Going back tomorrow.

You guys are slamming it! Incredible assortment of finds, bottles included. Well done
Jon

What numbers and how deep on the half dime and Reale ? Not common coins found often, numbers would help. Good work!
Regards,
MCB

Unfortunately the number when it was in the ground was inaccurate because it was part of a spill. The half dime, dime and two LC's were in the same hole. I'll scan it out of the ground. I honestly dig everything repeatable at sites like these.

A SPILL :surprised:

OUTSTANDING TRIP AND RESULTS

I live in WNY but I Love going to New England area to detect because although we are as old and myself and others have found many of the same finds in parks and cellar holes and even schools, New England is Disney land For detecting :twodetecting:

No Need To Suggest You need More Luck But..

Hoping The Weather Holds Out For You Guys :super:

Thanks!

My take for the day. Man what a fun day it was! I'll let Dirt and Pickhead post theirs.

Another good hunt, wow. Where are DD and Pickhead posting their stuff?
Jon

Nice finds, as usual hahaha man that handful right there would be the hunt of a life time for me! Good job!

I would have to say that the finds are a perfect storm of having THE MOST AWESOME HOSTS and a great love of the hobby :) we might have got on a couple good spots on our own but we have to give it up for our hosts. They put us on spots with great potential so that we could put the coil over it. Without their help it would have turned our trip into a month long ordeal if not a life long ordeal. We can't thank them enough for their company, insight, hospitality and friendship. What a life long dream!

So were the spots virgin or previously hunted. If the latter, I wouls attribute the success to operator skill . Anyway I envy you guys.

A couple of the sites were virgin and the better half were hunted previously, but the majority were big farm fields with tons of swing space.

I live on De , which has early history. However, its a rate thing to find spanish silver. Most of those locations are owned by the state and off limits, unfortunately. I guess they would rather relics to stay in the ground, instead of people enjoying them . I would rather them stay in the ground , than some un-ethical minded detectorist selling them for profit , though.

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times... Ok... well maybe not the worst. After 14 days of touring and detecting with a bunch of great treasure hunters (all of whom we now call friends) we are finally westward bound. Awaiting our return will be our true treasures... our families. It's bitter sweet. Leaving a land full of remarkable items waiting for their second breath of the New England air is difficult. However, being away from my wife and one year old son proved much more difficult than I had anticipated and I found myself yearning for their companionship. There were plenty of firsts for us on this trip. The bucket list has shrunk considerably. For that I am thankful. Some days towards the end of the trip I found myself thinking "WTF am I doing out here? Walking around in a corn field filling my pockets with THINGS I can't take with me when I leave this earth... At the expense of missing my boy's first this or that?" I guess where I'm going with this is, I LOVE this hobby... but two weeks away from home is too long for me right now. I really want my family to join me next time. Either that or maybe try 7 or 8 days instead of 14. I learned a lot though. This has been an epic adventure with the best of friends. We have managed to unearth all sorts of great prizes with the help of our gracious hosts. Each and every item that we dug tells two stories now. The story of it's past and the story of some kids from Idaho who went searching for the holy grail of Americana. The footage is amazing. The documentary will be magical. It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.

May your treasure chests be as full as your hearts,
Dr.Tones

The woods and fields by me exhaled a sigh of relief this evening, knowing that they'll be able to hold on to the secrets they hold for a little bit longer until you guys return..
