DFX search coil

ajohan

New member
I'm bought the DFX, but have someone tested coil:
Whites eclipse 8"x14" DD vice 14" EXcelerator
Whites 5"x9" DD vice 8" EXcelerator

have you any better suggestion?

Will use it both in normal and high mineralised soil.

Typical Sierra dealer propaganda. Whites doesn't care what coil one swings as long as one is swinging a whites detector.

JW.... Nice Try @ Bomb Throwing and using the Classy "BS" Bomb, but the Truth is the Truth regardless whether you or your employer wants to accept it.

I stand behind my post!!!

If the Excelerator Coils (NOT Factory Approved... just ask Steve Howard with Whites) are so GREAT, How many other Professional Retailers are selling them besides just one not counting the AKAs.

On the other hand, there are numerous professionals selling the Jimmy Sierra Product.. what better testimonial.

I've acquired several of the Excelerator Coils and numerous Hot Heads which came to me in Trades, and have compared them with Factory and Applied Creativity Coils. Overall, their performance from several aspects falls short of White's Factory Coils. Just don't take my word for it.... do a search on the comments.

The White's Approved Jimmy Sierra Coils are superior and consistent in performance, and not some 'One Size Fits All' marketing HYPE tool!!!

First, to your statements. You've bought the DFX and you will be hunting in "normal" and "high mineralized" soil.

You didn't express what experience you have and how well you feel you might understand the DFX. It is easy to use, but it it takes a good amount of time in the field to fully learn it and master it, just like the XLT .... and then some.

You also didn't mention what types of sites you'll hunt in, and what type of hunting you're planning on doing. What are you looking for? Is it coin hunting in park and school lawns? Searching open plowed fields for coins and artifacts? Dealing with brush and building rubble and scattered debris common to many ghost towns? Will you be relic hunting for bullets and buckles and all manner of targets? Is gold nugget hunting in your plans?

All of this can be done with the DFX, or any detector[ for that matter. But for some applications, it will certainly favor a different make or model detector, and it is always best to tailor the search coil selection to the task at hand.

Finally, we always read about "normal or "highly mineralized" ground, but ask ten people to describe their ground or some they encounter on their travels and you'll get ten different descriptions. It helps to know more about where you'll be hunting.

As for search coils, you will read a lot of pros and cons about various brands of after-market coils as well as types and sizes. If you don't mind, I'll share some of my opinions about coils, and those who make and sell coils as well as metal detectors.

a competitor of yours?? Greg, I don't know where you get the Excelerators, but I wouldn't expect you to say anything good about them since you don't sell them.

The Excelerators have a 30 day money back guarantee,I do not know of any aftermarket coil that makes that claim.

Plus, for your information BS means Bull Snort, get your mind out of the gutter.

You say Jimmy Sierra Coils are Superior in performance, ha. I've had 3 of his so called Hot Shot coils and they were nothing but duds. The 8 inch Excelerator put this, as you call it, superior performance coil to shame. The 12 inch hot shot I had for my xl pro wouldn't even go as deep as the 8 inch Royal! The Excelerator 4.5x7 and the 8 inch Excelerator coils have been two of the best after market coils I have ever used on the DFX! I also use them on my Explorer and they perform great. I had a problem with one Excelerator coil and was sent a ups label to send it back and it was replaced with no charge to me. I bought a pair of headphones from Sierra and was told 2 weeks after they broke to send them back to Detector Pro. Its nice to have a company that will back the products they sell for 30 days instead of passing the buck to the manufacturer.

The 4.5 x 7 and the 8 inch excelerator coils are great in mineralized soil and should do the job for you. I have been using them since they've come out and they are great performers.

Stay away from the 5.3 and 6x10 from Whites.I had them and sold them within a week. They're worthless coils. The 1400dd and the 4x6 dd are hot.You get unbelieveable depth out of both of them.Don't know about the excelerator coils, but be weary of testamonials from guys who are given free ones to field test them.If you can find someone who has one,try it out first.Dave

JW-

Bull Snort? regarding the Excelerator Satisfaction Guarantee, but by the time the customer pays those BACK AND FORTH Shipping Costs, wow. Jimmy Sierra Products won't stick you with the initial shipping expenses like Kellyco does and will even if need be pay for a UPS Pick Up and NOT charge the customer on any of his products. Most satisfied customers, go to their local dealer carrying Jimmy Sierra Products and are indeed satisfied.

Sierra Products are Satisfaction Guaranteed even if owned over 30 days.

For Monte: The Original Question Posted was a simple one... again, you wrote a book and branched out into Marketing, Professionalism etc etc BLAH BLAH BLAH. At least I kept my answer SHORT and to the Point, thus avoiding past problems of Monte: Copy, Separate, Past and Over-Bloviate. Remember KISS?????

In looking at your POST in this thread, all I can say is I too, consider myself as a professional, multi-line dealer, having authored dozens of articles and detecting since 1978 not to mention, specializing in HOT HEADS and Excelerator Trade Ins.

Like you, I spend a significant amount of time on some of the various forums including California Kinzli, White's Treasure Net, Tesoros Forum, Treasure Depot, and Findmall.
Don't you consider ME a Professional????

For the Guy that owned THREE Hot Shot 12".... According to Jimmy's records, up until last year, about three had been returned under the satisfaction guarantee and it was from different individuals not from your neck of the woods. If your still not satisified, call Jimmy and identify who you are. Satisfaction GUARANTEED!!!

When it Comes to Coins and Rings, which is the deepest coil for the White's DFX, MXT and M6: At this time, the 12" Hot Shot Coil is the DEEPEST Coil for Coins and Jewelry on the market and exceeds White's Specifications on Loop Geometry etc, so you'll get an accurate ID, and also a TWIN Receive Coil section which improves performance in Trashy Areas and Sensitivity to smaller than coin size targets. Ive tested it over the 950 for instance and its up to 30% deeper.

Monte: By the way, I've managed to get rid of most of my Trade-In Hot Head and Excelerator Coils at Fire Sale Prices, or maybe I could just PAY THE SHIPPING and send them back to JW for a FULL REFUND???? Got to read the fine print... I'm NOT the original owner.

At anyrate, I've been saving TWO of these recent Trade Ins from less than satisfied detectorists: These Kellyco Exclusives work on the 6.59 kHz Detectors so they are PERFECT for your Classic IDX that you so Lionize... I'll make you one BULL SNORT Deal on them!!!!!! Just Call Me!!!!! 650-574-2012 (No Collect Calls please).

JW: My response was to stick with Factory and Factory Approved Coils.... I did not say anything about avoid NON-Factory Approved Coils or mention Hot Heads or Excelerators.... there is a place for them.

In the Past I've had good things to say about the Excelerator Coils...
I do in fact like the 8" Excelerator DD Coil. I found the Pinpointing Good and the Depth on my 9"+ Dime when paired to an MXT as impressive.

I tried the Open DD Excelerator DD Loop which had an EXCELLENT window or foot print. I've also tried your 5" Excelerators and a variety of Hot Heads to 12". The Larger Hot Heads had good performance characteristics in the all metal mode when connected to the White's 6000 Series.

Of course, like many other Professional Retailer-Detectorists, I don't sell NEW Excelerator Coils, not because I hate them, but that's because your company has an exclusive deal with the European Company, Detech, and prefers to market something that no other competitor currently carries. As an example, someone living in my Backyard sees a White's Commercial and subsequently does an internet search, Kellyco pops up do to its #1 paid ranking.... and you offer an 8" Excelerator for a reduced price with say an MXT and Kellyco Package, that prospect is compelled to purchase on the spot without giving me a chance to convince him to buy from me.

And if he calls and asks me about my price on an MXT and an Excelerator, I have to tell him that the coil is an exclusive to Kellyco and convince him to stick with the Factory Coils or the Applied Creativity, Sun Ray Coils/Products that Kellyco is NOT able to carry.

I'm not sure how many of your other competitors you allow sell your exclusive-particular product... care to comment?

My company, Trans Bay Metal Detectors at this time would be willing to consider the wholesale purchase of the 5" and 8" DD Loops which fit in the overall line-up, even though White's Electronics has not openly approved or disapproved of the Detech Design Standard.

Lastly, I will compliment Kellyco has being an excellent promotor and has generated excitement for the hobby and stimulated many of my local sales. Keep up the Good work JW, .... NO BS intended.

By the way, BOTH my Gutters: Curb and Roof are Clean, thanks to one of my loyal customers, Robert, from New England a painter, who had the long sturdy ladder to get the elevation. Robert D, who lives on the Peninsula, first came to me excited about metal detecting and his wonderful informative Kellyco Booklet. Kellyco made that Sale EASY for me... appreciate all your work on your catalogs, thanks Stu!!!

:starwars: Dave,
I politely disagree with you, I find both the 5.3 and 6x10DD to be very good coils. I think your way off base with your remarks about them.

Have a nice day,:)
Bill G

They both sucked. They had terrible depth and the 6x10 acted up constantly.I tried 3 of the 6x10's,they all sucked. All metal wouldn't even work half the time with them. They were as bad as the 1400 and 4x6 are good.

This Excelerator Loop is Labeled Excelerator E, and the descriptor says Extra Sensitivity to small nuggets Perfect pinpoint
S/N 3007. I was hoping that Monte wanted it for his 6.59 kHz Classic IDX, but your right... looks like there would be a compatibility problem. Five Pins (No center pin).

I acquired this with the 12" Hot Head which is definitely for a White's 6.59 kHz. I assumed that the E following Excelerator signified White's E Series, but the plug does not fit any of the White's Models.

If not a 6.59 kHz, what am I in possession of, nothing else is marked on the label except the s/n 3007?????

Please Help Identify which Make and Model this loop was made for so I can give it a proper adoption after I test it.

I'll give you 5 guesses and the first 4 do not count. Clue; EXcelerator "E". The Hot Heads haven't been manufactured for a long time, at least 3-4 years.

You should tone down the bitterness in your posts, always slamming another's product looks bad, like "if you can't say anything nice don't say it at all". I don't believe I've ever slammed an AC coil on the forums, same with coiltek. As a matter of fact I have sent customers wanting other after-market coils to the respective manufacturers.

I regard coils, headphones, digging tools, and scoops Like I do Terminal Tackle ; eventually they either wear out or stop working; just like my favorite top water lure, I just can't tune it any more so out of the tackle box and it is replaced with the new and improved version.

and I know that they don't make a little 5" for the 6.59 kHz models.

I am trying to get another 5.5 Ferret Hot Head coil because I've now had four of them and each and every one of them functioned PERFECTLY! I am very partial to smaller-sized coils and the 5.5 Ferret I had last I never should have sold. They are an excellent coil and one of the most versatile, best-performing coils for the 6.59 kHz models I have ever had from Kellyco.

The 5" EXcelerator's for the DFX/MXT work especially well, and I would think that the Explorer 5" EXclerator you have will serve some Minelab user just fine.
