CTX...What is the Latest/Greatest Info on Underwater Headphones?

Those are the GGUW originals with a factory installed compatible male end on them. In my opinion the volume is just not that good. Hearing the threshold was very hard to do on a windy day.

Now these in the picture that are just coming out for the AT Pro look great. Notice the volume control. OBN reports 48% more volume. They look like they are worth waiting on. Hopefully they come out for the CTX as well very soon.

Hello. The Gray Ghost Amphibian will NOT be manufactured to be used with the Minelab CTX 3030 - at this time.

However - they will be tested shortly (on the CTX) and quite possibly OldeBeechnut will be available for making a mod to them which will incorporate the 8 pin connector...

More to follow...

What is wrong with the Grey Ghosts by Detector Pro. They state they are for the CTX 3030, and are now being advertised all over the internet at $175. Are they just their regular underwater phones rewired with a compatable plug? Just asking.. Nes

Yes, those are the originals that are been advertised for 175.oo, I believe that is why they are not going to do them for the CTX and the Excaliburs. But I will take the New GrayGhost Amphibians and add the CTX connectors and for the Excalibur's add an endcap. The New ones offer better tones, Higher audio, with volume control. I do still have to test them on the CTX, but they work excellent on the Excalibur's and are 48% louder. A major improvement over the Old Originals GGUW's.

Thanks, I guess I asked the right question. With people commenting on doing all of the waterproof plug exchanging on different headphone sets, it made me wonder why nobody was buying that set that has a wide distribution of sellers and advertising. Thats what I come here for... nes

I dove today with my CTX and the GGUW headphones, I had trouble with the volume not being loud enough. What type of gel pads are being discussed here and where can they be purchased? When I exhaled the bubbles where louder than my signals.

On the good side I also have an excal 1000 that I used in the same location I went back over it with my CTX, I found the CTX found several targets I would have otherwise missed including a silver ring. I couldn't believe the number of targets the CTX found that my excal never saw all this of course IMHO...

One final comment, the CTX coil is negatively bouyant, the screen portion is positively bouyant, this became an issue as I was fanning the sand away from my target and my detector began to float away. I am considering weighting the unit during my next dive any experiences with this ??

Hi - how deep did you dive? Those GGUW phones made for the CTX are not as loud as the yellow Koss on the Excalibur which are not as loud as the new GG Amphibian phones. I actually have a hard time hearing the signals using my stock yellow Koss on my Excal over the exhaled bubbles.

That's why I just sent a dozen of the new Gray Ghost Amphibian phones to Joe (OldeBeechnut) that he ordered from me so he can start making the Excal end cap mod. I can't wait for him to get my set of Amphibians back to me so I can install them onto my Excalibur in less than 5 minutes. I'm looking forward to the louder sound and richer tones and increased depth from getting the faint signals in pinpoint (all-metal) mode...

As a side note - if you contact him - he may be making the CTX mod by adding the 8 pin connector - so you too can use these new phones ...on your CTX.

Great post response, I typically dive in twenty feet or less, of course not with my CTX-I was down from four to eight feet. I have no problems hearing my Excal over my exhaled bubbles.

Do you find your CTX isolates significantly more targets than your Excal?

Final comment it looks like the gel pads suggested here are Peltor for around fifty dollars is that correct?

HH

Joe

Hi Joe - I don't dive with a CTX...we also are searching under 20'..typically from 8' to about 16' in Long Island Sound on the Connecticut side..vis about 4-6'.
I'm not sure about the suggested gel pads...

This has been going on for months. A $2500 underwater detector and there aren't any Underwater Headphones that transmit signals clearly or loud enough. Even the ones Minelab sells. At least that is the impression I get from the comments posted here. I haven't bought any yet because nobody seems satisfied with the market inventory. ... nes

Now they are hooked to my Excalibur...and they rock , soon I will be trying them on the CTX. I just have to convince Detector Pro that they have a Great New product that will work on the Excalibur's and CTX's.......

They have asked to see video of the results. So I do believe soon they will be available for others....

Hello Oldbeachnut, so in theory these can be hooked up to a CTX with the adapters correct? It looks like the connector only has 2 wires on the new GG, is that the case? Do you know if the connector itself is available that's on the Garret machines so that we could buy these headphones now and make a coupler so we wouldn't need to cut the end off the Amphibians to match the CTX. So in essence one end matches the CTX and the other matches the NEW GG Amphibians. Then when/if they make a Amphibian model for the CTX we could just sell them back to Garrett owners and buy GG models made for our machines. It already sounds like these are in the works for the CTX, but if they're still a long time off, this would def have a market....

Hope that all sounded right.

Thanks
Eddie

Hi Eddie.
Sorry. There is no Garrett coupler available to do what you suggest.
Also - it does not look like DetectorPro will be incorporating the CTX connector onto the Amphibian headphone.
The best bet will be that Joe OldeBeechnut will be doing the CTX mod for everyone. Or you can get the CTX connector and attempt to make the mod yourself...

I'm setting up some of the New Gray Ghost Amphibians for the Excalibur and in the works for the CTX 3030. I'm looking for a quick tester that can give me some numbers with the CTX. I Have a set ready to hook up, and Sunday the 14th would be a good day for me. I don't mind driving an Hour so please drop me a PM if you have about 30 minutes to take these for a spin, and I would like to run my SPL meter across the ear pads to give me an idea of what to expect. I do know the numbers for the Excalibur are Excellent but before I send out a few sets for the CTX I want to make sure we have a good match............Thanks Joe

I'm headed for Ocean City Monday (15) to Thursday (1:geek:) so if anyone is around that area, that would be good also....

If like to order a set of those amphibians from old beechnut when he is done with a set how do I go about it

Beechnut how bout this tell me what u have in them and I'll pay you for them test them against the yellows and GGUW's and post back as soon as I finish that day

Thanks You Bav, I have 4 sets sold for the CTX, a couple of the guys are going on vacation and would like to have them by the 19th of this month. which means I need a quick test to see if they are matched. I can say this, they rock on the Garrett's, and now the Excalibur....I believe these detectors audio output is DC, I tried the sovereign last night which is AC current....the test did not meet my standards. (SPL above 90db's) DC current has enough power to push the piezo benders, Detectors with AC current needs an audio coil to make them work. The sovereign is AC, I'm hoping the CTX is DC.....

Looks like my best op if I can't find anyone here in Baltimore is to stop by the Detector shop in Ocean View Delaware to see if he will do the quick test. If they work I can ship from there.....

Bav where are you located ?...and thank you for the offer, the big thing is I need to see the Sound Pressure Level on the GGA's , I know the SPL on the old GGUW's and the Koss yellows, I'm just hoping that since the Koss Yellows work, minelabs did not install the audio coil in them like the GGUW's, all are piezo driven....And that would mean they may do good on the CTX, you just never know until you have all hands on.......Joe

I almost want to order a CTX just so I can do some testing....since there is such a great need for a descent set of HP's...

Hi Joe

I cant believe that no one has taken up your call for help setting up these HP's to suit a CTX.

I hope I'm one of those 4 units sold , being on the other side of the globe and going away dont help either

Keep up the good work and get back to me

Cheers Marty

Yes Sir You and HullG are in need ASAP, I will know something come Monday or Tuesday if not Sunday...
