Coil @$&^%$%@^&**%^#$ " for Minelab Xterra 3 kHz

Old Longhair said:
OK. The thing is that they pirated the technology. It is patent registered and being produced w/o license. And we're not just talking about a simple wound coil. The Xterra has a chip in the coil that is patented that is being reproduced w/o license. It's on the same level as stealing software, only it's technology that has been misappropriated. They are reverse engineering them, which means that they do not have the actual specs, and it is entirely possible that they've missed a few details.

There's a bit more to it, but that's the basic jist of it.

theres a chance in my opinion they mightve improved on minelabs design by reverse engineering thier tech this boils down to a supply and demand issue minelab has no supply there is obviously a demand and another company is fufilling it for those willing to take a risk. I watched a video of the 15x17 air testing and clearly hitting targets at 19 inches its safe to say it would in my opinion find target 12 inches underground

So stealing is OK as long as enough people think so?

I see it as them copying the vflex "format" in a way they are offering products that minelab just doesnt. Im sure if minelab actually had made what people wanted then they wouldnt just get what they need from an "unauthorized source".
Id have more compassion to the matter if there were authorized coils that rivaled the unauthorized in performance and application but its aone sided battle how long can you wait for a company to create what you want before youve waited long enough, the x-terra series has been out long enough for the demand of certain accesories to be introduced but they havent been and someone else stepped up to bat.

When Britain was Great we used to make Motor Bike , many cars and many other types of things . After the war the Japanese got hold of our Technology and copied it , thats why the Japanese are so good with bikes and other things. They copy and improve and they made them cheap , they sold them and then the original country who made them went down the tubes.

Now look at another scenario , The USA makes lots of things , many good and along comes another country trying to get a foothold in the world , copies their technology and makes thing cheaper ..... see where i am going ? by the way that country is China. They are copying and thats why they will be richer than the US in 10 years or so +-
If someone makes something and someone has an idea and both countries are not in the same trading block then there is very little that can be done about copying technology.

As for the coils in question , they are not damaging the machines they are just an after market coil that does the job better or worse than the rest. I found the 13 x 12 18khts quite good but keep the 7kht instead which i should not have .

The best way for a country to stop copying of their technology is to supply what the people want and listen to the people and keep the prices within reality. Another thing is when you ship factories abroad because your own country starts getting expensive for labour , thats when it all starts ! If you help another country get out of poverty , they will eventually bite the hand that feeds them.

As for the Ukraign , they are just picking at straws at the moment.

As part of ongoing product improvements to our X-TERRA series of ADVENTURE detectors, Minelab has recently updated our VFLEX technology with improved coil-to-detector digital communications protocols.

All genuine Minelab X-TERRA coils and authorised Coiltek X-TERRA coils are fully compatible with all X-TERRA detectors. Any other third party brand non-authorised coils that may function with older X-TERRA detectors may not work at all with the latest X-TERRA detectors. This will result in a CE error message appearing on the X-TERRA display, indicating that the coil is not communicating with the control box.

Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact your regional Minelab office.

This is the direct quote from minelabs site. It does not mention that someone is stealing the patent or taking from minelab in any way? For all we know minelab could be getting a kick down from this company or be the test bed for new products( prob not but possible).

Instead of telling the consumers why we should not buy something go to your manufacturer and let them know they are being left behind because they are not listening to the customer. We are not fortunate enough to be on minelabs test bed and like I have mentioned, we have over 6 pages of a want list for a 6 in dd 3khz. Did minelab even chime in and let us know if was in the works or not? If I treated my PAYING customers that way I would not be in business long.

Until minelab chimes in and lets us know this company is doing illegal activity it tells me they are ok with anyone buying non authorized coils. They were just warning with a compatibility issue with the coils is all I read. Same thing if I were to go buy a griffen phone charger for my iPhone. Why would I spend $40 for a charger and cable when a non authorized company sells it for $24. If apple just like minelab was really worried they would sue over a patent infringement. Happens all the time.

Maybe the patent on the X.Terra series has run out ? I know some only last a while.

Anyway the coils in question ,like i said before -

The New N*** coils DO work on the PRE April Machines (Any Minelab) ? and the NEW machines

The Old N*** coils dont work on the April on Machines (Any Minelab ) ? But definately Terra's and Explorer's E.Trac

That is information i have had from a dealer here and have heard from other detectorists too.

I just feel that Minelab should stop worrying about other makers of copy products and up their game and bring out new coils and machines and certainly coils.
The Terra series has been blighted with poor coils for a long time in the past and although there may be the new Coiltech types coming out , it is like shutting the stable door when the horse has bolting.

The large are to large and the small may be good for stubble but i for one hate small coils anyway.

I think if they had better coils , an 11 in and a similar sized eliptical then that would make an extremely good machine . They make them i will buy them but i think we are close to a new series of Terra's and we will see them new coils at that time and if not then it will be another fudge by Minelab which i hope not.

Dont think i think that the Terra is crap because its brilliant and i think my most successful machine ever so far, but i am just trying to point out mistakes and hopefully get the attension of those who will put them right in the future.

But seriously whether these new coils are Minelab or Coiltech or some copy or so called ilegal type from the Ukraign dont be afraid of competition , its what makes us do better and ups the game.

Dont stand still or you will be left behind.

I love my Terra's .

the "unauthorized" company is making coils the minelab and coiltek just dont have its not like they are rebadging concentric minelab coils with thier sticker they're bringing in coils of mostly thier own design. I wouldnt be suprised if a disgruntled employee from Detech made all this happen.

Probably.

Digger , they are big round coils or very small coils and thats not what i am many others need. Good they may be for some sites but not for the beaches i have round my way and for land like Roman sites a big coil will be a nightmare . Sounding off all the time or unable to balance due to the hell of iron minerals and coke all over the place . The small coils might be good for that but i like medium sized coils .
Depth is not as important as target i.d. and stability on the field , not saying the Coiltech are no good but they are also big , mostly. If i came accross a site that needed a big coil then i would get one but thats unlikely .
As for authorised ! well if they the N*** are not then sue them but from that country i bet you wont get far and as for here people want them.
One coil and i dont know if its allowed on here is the Ultimate 13in but thats for the ET , tempted but not for now , CTX cost has pushed that one into touch for now.

Honestly, I don't care what coils you buy or which ones you want. As someone who volunteers to help out here on Findmall, all I care about at this point is that we STOP promoting these ? coils on this forum. The sponsosrs (advertising dealers and manufacturers) who pay for this platform do not make them and cannot sell them. These coils are their competition! Nearly everytime one of you guys make a post mentioning the ? coil, I get emails from disgruntled sponsors. So PLEASE, stop posting about them. If the advertisers pull out, we all lose. Thanks.
