See Minelab , there is a market .
Minelab is fully aware there is a market. And more recently, so is Coiltek. But to shed a bit different light on the subject, recognize that there is a difference between producing a coil through reverse engineering and a coil that was designed and built using the specifications engineered by the same folks who built the X-TERRA. Not having a specific coil at a specific frequency that works "as designed" does not mean the efforts have not been made.
I have two Pro-Style coils that were made by Minelab, for the X-TERRA. One is HF and one is MF. I bought them from Findmall's Accessories forum a couple years ago. They initially came from a person in Florida who had field tested them. I was told he reported they did not work well on the beaches. Hence, Minelab scrapped that project. I found that there were some minor adjustments that could be made, allowing them to work pretty well for me on land. So with a bit of patience and serious discussion, I still have hopes that one of the "authorized" coil manufacturers will follow up on this or a similar project.

When I saw an 8-inch DD X-TERRA coil for sale on eBay, I wrote the seller and asked him why he was selling it and how well it worked. His response surprised me in that he turned out to be a person who use to do Field Tests for Minelab and was at one time a Minelab dealer. He told me that Minelab built it for him to test. He reported that it covered more ground than the 6-inch coil, but didn't hunt much deeper. Based on his opinion, that one was scrapped as well. But again, I am making the pitch for someone to revisit this project.

So what choice do we have if we insist on using legitimate products? Within the past year or so, Minelab has "authorized" Coiltek to build X-TERRA coils. No one else IS authorized to build X-TERRA coils. Their first attempt was with the 15-inch All Terrain at 7.5 kHz. It works very well and there is no concern that using it will void the X-TERRA warranty. Coilteck has been given access to Minelab's technical specifications. And with that in mind, I'm not willing to give my money to some aftermarket manufacturer who builds coils with what they've learned through reverse engineering. Not to mention the fact I despise technical piracy.

I fully expect to see more X-TERRA coils in the near future. When? I can't say. But good things come to those who wait! HH Randy
