Cibola and Vaquero ... are they different?

tesoro is by far the "best" in customer service, and NOT JUST as a result of them repairing
detectors out of warranty for no charge!..their service is PROMPT,and thorough!..they DO
make one tough little detector, and GENERALLY their equipment does NOT,(if taken care of)
break!..terrific discriminators (ed-120,ed-180),light weight, and great bang for the buck!

I guess not.

Oh well, I just ordered a used Vaquero from a vendor listed here, so I get to see how the V can do. Can't wait to try it.

Now mod the Cibola and compare the 2 side by side. I have both, a modded Cibola and a stock Vaquero. My Cibola blows away the Vaquero.

How does it do that? How does your Cibola blow away your Vaquero?

I tried both while living in Georgia, without manual GB the C was a very poor performer. One reason I sold my first C. The V was better in the depth dept. but seemed to be somewhat noisier and needed some extra adjustments from time to time. Bought my 3rd C and mod'd it with man. GB. 100% difference. Much better detector and improved depth.
It was smooth as silk in operation. And a real joy to use with the 5.75" coil. One detector I actually liked using in that miserable red clay mineralized soil. Wish I had it back to try here up North where the soil is not as mineralized....................By the way, bought my 2nd and 3rd C's and compared them, the 3rd C was hotter than the 2nd by 1 1/2", that's the one I kept and modd'd, for what ever that is worth.

Here's a direct quote from Keith Southern which persuaded me to add man GB to my C:

Just visited the link you provided, didn't even realize my .pdf was linked to the site.
Basically reposted some of that info above.

Thanks for information Sven.

I went ahead and purchased the Vaquero as I have been wanting to try it for awhile. I wanted to keep my Cibola as it is so my wife or kids could have soemthing to use if they ever decide they want to try detecting. I learned on the Cibola and it is a great machine to learn on. Not to say that makes it less of a machine but it is easy to operate.

If I find I don't like the V I think I can get my money back for it. I still plan to find a used Cibola and try the MOD just to see how it will do.

Those are great points Sven, location and you can adjust the trimmer inside your Cibola and see BEFORE you do the mod. Anyone know if Tesoro will still repair modded detectors?

ki4trw: what did you see different between the two, modded cibola vs stock vaquero?

I was told tha the modded Cibola will get a couple of inches deeper than a Tejon both outfitted with a 10x12 coil and all conditions being the same .... and more than a couple of inches deeper than the Vaquero ( all things being the same ) ....... That's pretty impressive in my book .... This info comes for someone who has all these machines to do the comparisons...It sounds to me like the modded Cibola might just be the hot ticket !!..... Jim

This si very interesting to hear that the Cibola is capable of this. If this is true anyone know why a Modded C would be able to do better and if so why didn't Tesoro just make a Cibola with a ground balance.

where can i get this done?..sweet!

Im sorry but I dont believe that for a minute. I believe someone told you but thats as far as it goes. For a lot of people the cibola is probably adjusted correctly right from the factory. read svens post before you put money into a gb mod, test your cibola yourself, dont just believe these "someone said" stories.
So now the cibola is even deeper than a Tejon?:poke:

Believe what you want, but i own all three and the modded Cibola IS deeper than both the Vaquero and Tejon. That just from my experience with all three detectors same targets, same coil.

OMG..... The C & V are the same units except for the name and ones a turn on and go and the other is a manual GB . If you want one or the other just buy which one you want... I'd put my Vaquero up against any Modded Cibola... I believe they are one and the same even if the cibola is modded. The only reason they made the Cibola in the first place was for the people that can't or don't want to Manual Ground balance their detector. and that's fine i have a Silver Sabre that's turn on and go and i have one that's modded (Same Units) they are both the same. ones just manual GB and the other is not. the mod will let you adjust your machine a little better in different ground conditions... but it does nothing more. Does it make it better than a standard Silver Sabre? it's all in the eyes of the beholder...... want what you want and detect with what you want but don't try to talk people into ruining their warranty just because you make the mod sound so much better... it isn't. all you'll have is a machine like the Vaquero and no warranty. Nuff Said!

I'm not going to argue with you. I'm just telling you what my experience is with all three machines. C&V are not the same machine as you stated with the exception of the ground balance. I also never suggested anyone void their warranty by modding their Cibola. If your so confident in your Vaquero or Tejon i will gladly put my Modded Cibola against you stock Vaquero or stock Tejon, detector for detector.
NUFF SAID?

Im in Forked River, NJ, thats by Seaside Heights and just 45mins north of Atlantic City. Maybe we could do a beach hunt and compare signals? As youve read Im of the same mind as Jay on this but Ive never used one so lets give it a whirl. no sense arguing on here about it right?
let me know.

I hope you two can get together and compare ... if not maybe East Texas is better? I have both units and I'll throw my tejon & vaquero up for the challenge with confidence.....
I'm in Tyler Texas, 100 miles from Dallas and 100 miles from Shreveport, Louisianna.... if you can't meet up with Neil, maybe we can set up this challenge hunt and lay this theory of yours to rest.
I've had my times when I had to eat Crow in my life, but I believe both Neil and I are correct in our thinking on this one.
let either one of us know and we'll set this challenge up and see which one is better.... stock or mod.... nothing wrong with a friendly challenge to prove a point... right?

Jay, if you are ever in DFW, let me know as I have a Cib, box stock you can compare with.

we should get together and hunt sometime, I'd love to compare the Cibola to the Vaquero as far as the performance goes between the two. but you know I believe that both are very capable units and I think in our soil conditions would be about the same. I just don't think that modding a cibola can/would make it better than either the Vaquero and I know for sure the Tejon. Thanks for the offer.... How's the Killer B's working out for you?
