Caution Selling Detectors on Ebay

n/t

Can PayPal do the same thing if, for example, I sold a detector to a 'scammer' that was targeting the classifieds here? ..Willy.

You Should contact the police like pay pal suggests. You can get the Number from your local police department. They have to deal with this kind of stuff now and by calling them you are at least trying to let the system work for you.

I would think so if using Pay Pal. Use casheirs check or money orders for online.

If e-bay and Their subsidy Paypal is that bad. Why would anyone use either service.
It seems like you hear one bad deal after another, day in, and day out. Simple solution is "Don't buy it, sell it, or pay for it with their services.
After reading all the scams, losses, and poor quality products people have gotten dealing on e-bay I will never buy from them, or sell.

Wake up "America". Find a better way.

E-bays volume of sales is being eroded by competition and a developing wariness because of all the scamming. (Too bad as it hurts the good guys who depend on it.)

Like I said...eBad and PudPal are not there to make YOU rich or even look out for your welfare...They are there to make money...Bottom Line...
Wake up people!!!....There are folks out there with nothing better to do than to spend every waking hour trying to find ways to scam you out of your money, and online deals are the number one target they use...They never froze my bank accounts...They will not let me use the accounts I have with them anymore (obviously), and I have stopped all payments from my bank account to both of them...They will NEVER see another dime from me...

HH,

Again, if this is all correct, why did you not contact Paypal to have them enforce the buyers proof of return? I would be doing that TODAY! I would also contact your state attorney general, the attorney general in the state Paypal is headquartered (I think they are in Omaha, Nebraska) and the DA's officer where the buyer lives.

Or better yet, contact Judge Judy and resolve your issue with the buyer there.

(by the way you won't ever get the "$100" for your time and effort. Your actual loss is the selling price, less shipping less the listing and final value fees since you would not get any of that money. So your actual loss is around $525, if the bidding went to $565.)

Thanks for every ones input. I just wanted you to be aware of the problems of selling stuff using ebay and paypal. I wont ever sell on ebay again. As for the machine well I'm done with the process of recovering it. I have a new IDX PRO to play with. "Every pull tab you uncover, remember it could of been a gold ring". Best wishes trixncap . Pics- 1899 nickel, a pendant coin European, A odd coin. I found three on a beach i don't have a clue what they are.

I have bought/sold well over 700 items on ebay and only have had 2 slight problems. 1 with an item that I sold that the buyer said was a non-original part and I told him to send it back and I would refund him. The 2nd was an item I bought and it got lost in the mail. Both times the outcome was taken care of completely and professionally to the satisfaction of both parties.
I will continue to buy and sell from Ebay.

Any company that you buy from online could be a scam and could take your money and run. There are possible scammers in every type of business and place.

Don't let a rotten deal from 1 company, spoil your buying in the future.

I have heard lots of bad things from that Florida detector company. But I have bought some items from them and have had no problems whatsoever. If I ever need to get an item from them, I will buy from them again.

Those "coins" look like specially made tokens/medals for an organization or event. One is modeled after an ancient western Greek design style and the other looks to be celtic/anglo saxon style? If there is evidence of a seem around the edge, they are cast. Gonna sell them on ebay...using PayPal?!!!

have to be careful!.many people out to f*** you!..lots of people WANT to try with the advent of the internet!..much comes from southeast asia!

I don't sell on e-bay but I have bought a few things over the years and have been cautious about it, and have been lucky I guess. I always pay with a postal and/or bank money order. One thing I thought of that might help is a separate feedback website that exposes the bad sellers and buyers on e-bay. Giving the full details of the transaction, e-mail, shipping address, name, etc. of the person. It really bothers me when someone gets taken.

I set up just such a website. Hardly anyone used it. I did it in response to getting ripped off by a seller and Ebay and its Safe harbor program not getting my money back. The only good part was that a few others that were ripped off by the same seller got together via my site and were able to get the police involved. I received about 80% of my money back and the others were about the same. The site was called www.judgingebay.com. It was a totally open and fair forum from which people could lodge and answer their complaints. The 80 character limit on Ebay is not enough space to fully address issues and attach evidence to bolster your case. The seller that we zeroed in on quit Ebay but his negative claims against all of us stood. Ebay really has its problems... I prefer to buy and sell on Craigslist whenever possible. I closed down the site and decided that it was to much work if people didn't really care about their Ebay transactions enough to get involved. Its like politics and the rest of whats happening. Until everyone decides to get involve there won't be any changes in the way things turn out.

Here is an FAQ page for a site that has been set up to battle both eBay and Paypal problems. It also contains information on how to close out your accounts, with minimal risk of further liability. I know the name of the link looks like a joke. But it is a real site.

thank you for a voice-of-reason. I too have bought and sold on ebay (and md'ing forum classified columns) and not had problems. Now and then you've got to feel out a buyer or seller to know if you want to proceed, is all. These internet classified days are merely taking the place of the old days of flea markets and newspaper classifieds. Even back then you had to take due discretion.

With the slow demise of the brick-&-mortor detector dealers d/t the internet, it's getting to the point where some people in some locales, just have no choice but to buy & sell over the internet, whether in new or used md'ing items. There's just less and less brick-&-mortar dealers. Same for a LOT of niche businesses over the last 10 to 15 yrs. of internet growth.
